Money not being a problem - would you recommend a Mesa Boogie Mark IV, V, or VII if you were going to buy one of those three now? Also, would one of those be a good choice or is there another amp you’d suggest to someone with a Marshall JVM 410 head (hachi machi, OD 1 orange mode rules), as a complement amp? (And yes to all the folks, I could use a modeler or something, but I don’t wanna)

It seems we are in a minority, but I'm inclined to agree. It's the only one that stood out to me. It's just incredibly nasty and in your face, but in a very precise way. It really has that grinding sound I like. It does some crazy things to chords especially when there's a a few dissonant notes in there. And it has that thing so few high gain amps have, you can hear every note in a chord at insane gain levels.

@@Patrick-857 Glenn doesnt say that amps don't matter. He makes the point that there are other things in the signal chain of a recorded guitar that can make MORE of a difference in tone.
@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 3 ай бұрын
@iifesterfilms6745 Well speakers certainly make a massive difference to the tone, but imo the speaker acts as a filter. The speaker's influence on tone is mostly subtractive (I'm an analogue synth guy as well as a guitarist) as such it can only change what's already produced earlier in the chain. Amps are additive, they are introducing harmonics, and are altering the dynamics which can be both additive and subtractive. The speaker is a very obvious and surface level influence, but a bad sound is a bad sound through any speaker. He also denies pickups have much influence, but we all generally know that's untrue. It's obviously untrue because the pickups are the source of the sound. Getting back to amps, they aren't just EQ, their influence is in the harmonic distortion, and how they alter dynamics as well. Just look at the massive variations you find in the world of fuzz pedals. He's like the people who claim an SLO100, a Mesa Boogie and a 5150 all sound the same because they are all the same basic topology. They aren't the same, they all have very distinctive sounds. Glenn's recent video on that exact topic is very scientific, if you are myopic like him and ignore everything else but the EQ curve on a screen, and take pains to dial the amps to sound as close to each other as you can. The EQ curve on a screen isn't the whole story. Glenn irritates me. I used to enjoy his content back in the early days when he first went viral ripping on bass players. He's right about some things, but he's really annoying and he takes things to an extreme. It's all irrelevant now anyway as most up and coming players are using plugins to get their sound now anyway, and most of that software will teach you really quickly how tone works. If nothing but speakers matter, why is Buster Odeholm using a Fab Filter dynamic EQ and all kinds of other crazy stuff on his DI, before it even hits the amp sim? Why not just EQ everything at the end with the right IR and be done with it? Why are we not just sending a Metalzone straight to an IR loader and calling it good? Every part of the signal chain matters. Real producers know this. I look at what successful producers and engineers do, and listen to what they say. Glenn is primarily a KZfaqr, and he's not really worked on much music of note.
