Also, thanks for telling us about the negatives, on which we are working on but due to the size of the country and population and porous nature of our borders, it is very slow going. I think the social issues will improve with economic improvement and education as you see in the south.

Dude. North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are extremely poor. Avoid those states. South Indian states are much more prosperous and civilised. Use this Human Development Index list of Indian states as a guide to assess the safety of the state- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_states_and_territories_by_Human_Development_Index

I agree with your review. I’m really sorry for the rough experience your wife went through. The sad reality is my country has a long way to go for ensuring women safety. We don’t let our own female family members out at night or isolated places alone. The south is a bit better but still far from perfect. There is a lack of quality education in our country to teach the men of our country the true values of being a real man.

Big thumbs up for your reviews and Merry Christmas. I am living in North India and I do agree these issues. I would say you booked wrong place for staying in Old delhi. Paharganj is worst place and most Chaotic. There are lots of migrants from other parts of India living there for employment and they are quite uneducated. You should have opted for New Delhi instead. Instead if you ask me, I would never advise anyone to visit Delhi unless you love chaos and wanna become mad😊. It better to enjoy peaceful vacations in South and North East India. @Sudipa jai hind Get a life rather trying to spread hate against ur own ppl. Only 40% people of Assam are assamese rest are illegal immigrants. Also FYI there is a good amount of people thriving from Marwar,Punjab and Bengal in Assam and all blend in to stay bonded like brothers and sisters. In future try to earn some knowledge on ur own from 'books' and google rather picking up shitty info from 'somebody'. People from here move to mainland either as students or in search for jobs. Tell ur tea seller to put some effort in development in this side,to build companies here, to establish more than one IITs here and then talk shit. It is the right of every human being born in any country whats illegal is illegally crossing borders in flux and showing dominance and power over the place's own ppl and taking over their jobs when there is already stone raining unemployment. The only place in India with good amount of jobs and institutions is the mainland and people can and will come from all parts of India where there are not enough jobs. India doesnot revolve around you and your priviledged mindset. In some parts of India which are non existant for you farmers are dieing for there is no food and kheti, as ur tea seller spents millions and billions on some statue the youth has to study hard and move out to the main cities of the country. Bullshit.

Really impressed with your reviews regarding India. What you said about Safety of Women is true to some extend. We see a lot of incidents on a day to day basis, these days. We cannot blame poverty or lack of education for these behaviors. It is purely on how they have been brought up in their families. South India is far better in this aspect when compared to some Northern parts of India. I am from Kerala and am really proud to say that. Best wishes to your Channel and Keep your great work going !!

I disagree with your judgement regarding Kerala. Doesn't Kerala have the second or third-highest number of reported rapes annually among Indian states? @@JumpingPlaces I'm from Switzerland. Your videos remember me of my travels in India where I have been travelling a lot over the years. I have been to the indian subcontinent and in south east asia several times. In India been to Ladakh, Zanskar (crossed Zanskar on foot), Jammu and Kashmir, many mountain places in Himachal Pradesh as well as in Uttar Pradesh. Delhi (including Pahar Ganj), Varanasi, Agra, many places in Rajasthan, Mumbai, Goa many times and Karnataka several times, some parts of Andrah Pradesh, Kerala and many places in Tamil Nadu. Never been to West Bengal, Kalkutta and the states east of Kalkutta. I have been traveling and trekking in Nepal several times. Also been to Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Most of my travels were in the 1980ies and 90ies. Not much traveling recently as I got older and had to work for my pension to come. So there are lots of memories I wouldn't want to miss. Cheers and best wishes. Martin

@@JumpingPlaces That's the plan. There are a lot of places waiting to be discovered. Never been to north or south america, for example. Switzerland is worth going. It's an expensive place, I agree but it can be done on a shoestring as Gabriel proved. May be Europe will be possible to go in the future.

Chris I thank you very much for making this video you balance the scale by throwing light on both negative and positive I know that not one if 100s of problem in India. But still I believe my country can offer a lot Patriarchy and cleanliness are issue we need to deal with. I would suggest anybody visiting Delhi should stick to south Delhi and stay away from cheap hotels South india is much more relaxing and some amazing architecture . I wish next time you visit india you also visit north east its really a third India Merry Christmas and wish that your channel blow up in 2020

This is a really honest, important video. I'm so happy that you two had a good time; I've only really seen two of your videos but you seem like an awesome couple and I really want to visit India someday. Thank you so much for letting us know the good bits and the bad bits; I hope sincerely that things improve in those areas. I will say that the, uh, "strategies" thing that you heard with a lot of the female travellers *isn't* unusual, even here in the west. Women deal with a lot of shit that most guys don't even notice (because it's not affecting them), and the guys that *do* notice tend to be the ones causing the issues in the first place. The behaviour you saw is obviously shocking and the situation is not as bad here in Scotland as it sounds in Old Delhi, but I know from friends that there are college campuses in the US and elsewhere where that behaviour wouldn't be super out of place. It's... weird to hear a guy learn that for the first time, but heartening to see you respond in a respectful way. Thank you for being so considerate about it. I'm relatively lucky in that I'm non-binary and can pass pretty easily either way (thank you half-hearted hormone treatment) so I think I'll definitely be in "guy mode" if I ever visit North India. I like me some greenery anyway.

Chris and Carol..pls accept our apologies for not being treated well in India ..it’s such a shame that we don’t care how we behave.. you have shown us the mirror…hope we improve and become more foreigner friendly..but moving south , there is a sea change and most of it is attributable to education/ literacy..hope you both overcome this and visit the entire south , north east and of course the majestic Himalayas..I have visited Brazil , Argentina and Chile ..you are at a different level.. keep up the good work .. I love your vlogs ..Good luck

Chris, it is obvious that when you speak, it is from the heart. What a great, unbiased review based on your experiences. I don't know that I'll ever visit India, but have been told by an Indian acquaintance, (from the South/East) to be prepared for all the stares. Didn't know it could be this bad! Glad you had beautiful experiences also. P.s. My acquaintance, although well educated academically, can sit alone all night at a table, and just stare. Odd! I must say though, that this does not apply only to Indian men.

So I'm from Sri Lanka. I've been to India 3 times. Have to say it is one of the most amazing places I've been to. Few of my Indian friends told me that the situation in north India is very dangerous for travelers. For me I look more or less like an Indian but for a European looking foreigner it won't be the same for sure. Unfortunate that you guys had to face such bad experiences. But south India is far better in that sense.

You are not very wrong about Delhi, in the field I work I have lots of jobs in Delhi which pay well but I don't want to go there for the same reason. Also Paharganj in general is not a good area, you are better off staying in New Delhi if want to visit.

Also in general India is kind of place where in the same city you will find the most modern clean areas where ppl who won't bother you, no scams, great food and there are areas like Paharganj. I know it's not my place to say whether solo females should travel here or not, but I will definitely recommend that if you know someone indian then take their help, they will properly guide you for your journey here and you will have a pleasant experience.

I'm an expat living in Chennai for a very long time here summer is extremely hot for example temperature can reach up to 49 degrees and winter is not cold at all, personally my most favorite states in India are Jammu and Kashmir, himachal pradesh,Sikkim where it's cold most of the year and also snows in winter giving a feeling of being in Europe or Canada and places like ooty, kodaikanal, munnar in southern India are cool too
