They tried to do that to my son in 1985 even after I told them that he had moved back into the position he’d been in for the last month which was his head on the left side of my pelvis bone and his butt pressing up against my right ribs. They chastised me saying “babies don’t move during labor “. I was only 17 and in their minds stupid. I’d been in labor for over 20 hours starting late Saturday night and had yet to see an actual doctor. When the doc finally came to the hospital and examined me he said “the baby’s head isn’t even down here!”. I cried. 23.5 hours of labor and only 3cm dialated, my baby’s heart rate plummeting with every contraction and they finally did an emergency C-section. The cord was around his neck twice and he was as black as the Ace of Spades. He almost died due to their incompetence and not listening to their patient.

This was very reassuring and healing to watch. I had to have an emergency C-section with my daughter because her heart rate was plummeting from her cord being wrapped twice around her neck. They had to use this tool to get her heart rate because they wanted to know if it was as low as the external monitors were saying before making any calls about c-section, or if they just weren't catching the heart rate. It was actually lower and they rushed me to the OR. So thankful for the nurses and doctors that day who helped to make the right decisions for us to have our beautiful little girl.

Whoa😮 I'm so glad this is being shared. It's probably not that big a deal, but the barberism of the appearance of some of these devices 😢 I don't know how anyone gets through these processes without trauma they have to talk about for the next 10 years. 🤔

@peachykeen7634 You're probably right, but to look at some of these devices is distressing to me. And the fact that you said it only hurts a little doesn't make me feel better. I don't think there's anyone who gets giddy about the prospect of something hurting them so doctors can make better decisions. But I do appreciate your point of view.

This happened to me minutes before i was rushed into surgery due to fetal distress, however i ended up giving birth naturally on the operating table while they were setting up the room for a c-section (with me asleep) 30minutes before the monitor was placed my waters broke naturally with maccoinum inside 😮 I ended up having a 3h labour and wouldn't of changed anything it seems awful to agree to the internal monitor but without it i would have not known my baby was in distress just in time.

They used this on my fourth baby and the cord wasn’t working freaked me out with the staff kept saying there was no heart beat and they had to do another cord and it was so painful. They also pumped extra fluid back in to get pressure off the cord. Worst labor I’ve had.

My thoughts too. But this kind of monitoring is usually because baby is in distress. Next step might be an emergency c section

I work in NICU, so not L&D - there may or may not be a small amount of pain, but this device sits just under the skin on the scalp. Oftentimes I can't tell that a new baby has had this, or I may see a tiny scab. But if I was in labor and there were concerns for distress in baby, and external monitoring was not adequate - I would absolutely have this done if necessary.

@@amytownsend6491 I was with a midwife group for my first. I was 11 days overdue and the CNP midwife gave me 8oz castor oil to induce labor. Caused placental abruption and two hour precipitous labor. Baby was in distress and passed meconium in utero. He was having heart decels and I ended up going to the ER and couldn’t make it to the birth center. Had my next three deliveries with my OB in hospital. Just saying that although midwives can be great (I’m from the UK originally where this is the norm) not every midwife is great. Definitely agree to research, ask questions and advocate for yourself. No system is perfect.

I had this with my third. I've had an unmedicated birth. An HSG, IUD, multiple c-sections including one with twins, and an egg retrieval and implantation. Lots of painful things have happened to my reproductive system, NOTHING compares to the pain I was in having this done. I usually faint when in extreme pain, which did happen later on in labor, but unfortunately I didn't faint during this. I wasn't informed either that there was a hook, I was told it was a "sticker" and I guess I assumed it was an electrode pad

Golly, women go through a lot. I like the way that this nurse describes and explains everything however, my fear is that there will be some subpar, know it all, less experienced nurse who will be too rough and will damage the baby’s head.

New L & D nurse here: under which circumstances would you use this? Like when we suspect or know that the baby has a congenital cardiac anomaly? I heard a nurse and OB arguing the other day about using one of these but I wasn’t sure why the nurse was against it. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you

I’m just a mom but my third had a short cord and they couldn’t tell if she was getting decels during descent due to the short cord or not. I also had polyhydramnios so they broke my water early. Baby girl wouldn’t cooperate on the external monitors and they wanted to make sure she wasn’t in destress. They used this on her when they could t get a good reading and there were other possible complications that they wanted to rule out.

They explained this to me last week when I had my baby. Yeah, I refused. Glad I did too. She had so much bruising on her head from being in a bad position, I seriously doubt their ability to not hit the “soft spot”. My nurse couldn’t even guide me to proper positions to push, my husband had to step up and be the “expert”! I swear my nurse was a complete newb. They just assumed because it was my 4th kid that I wouldn’t need any help I guess.

I had this done as well baby was not reacting well to so many contractions they were back to back with just a small amount of medication. And they had me on all fours with an epidural not easy for sure. then they put the monitor in after baby I guess was okay. I did have her vaginally but with forceps also this fell out towards the end and they had to have a nurse hold a monitor to my stomach while I pushed. I wish I had more explanation of what was going on maybe at the 6 week appointment but I didn’t so I’m not sure what was going on.

I hope this isn't a typical experience with internal monitoring, but it definitely upset (and probably hurt) my baby. When I was delivering my son who has a heart condition, they needed to have constant monitoring and opted for an internal monitor when the external one wasn't picking up consistently. I don't know for sure but I think they may have just twisted it too far in and hit his skull. He had been fine the entire time but as soon as they attached the monitor he began showing signs of distress, and we got rushed to the OR for an emergency C-section. He had a huge knot on his head where it was attached, and every doctor and nurse that saw him wanted to know what happened to his head. As his head grew the knot gradually was less noticeable, but it was at least 8 months before it got to that point. It doesn't have any lasting effects though, so in a situation where your baby's safety is in question, it's worth a knot on the head (although if I had known how it was going to go down, I would have just asked for a C-section instead).

My baby was fine and I had forceps as well and her head was perfect at her appointment that you take them to after you get home from hospital. Also, a doctor put mine in I’m not sure what type of doctor the nurses weren’t allowed to put it in.

I had this procedure twice. Felt nothing due to great epidurals. Babies probably didn't like it, and it left a temporary, tiny scab on their scalp for a few days. No big deal for me.

Yes, do your own research, outside of what the mainstream healthcare community will tell you. These absolutely hurt babies. But they can't vocalize in utero, so we don't care. Think of yourself, or any other time a person can vocalize that they're experiencing pain, would something being attached to your scalp feel okay to you? With the other technologies and monitors we have, these are more than unnecessary.

More crimes against humanity. Stay the heck out of the hospital and find yourselves a wonderful midwife & save you/your baby from unnecessary trauma. “Medical emergencies” are generally stemmed from intervention that a mother would not need if she was comfortable, & in the hands of a knowledgeable midwife. There’s a time/place for OB’s (surgeons), but ask yourself how many times you’ve heard the typical snowball: “I was induced (unnecessarily), then I wasn’t “progressing quickly enough”, so I had some Pitocin. Then the artificial/unnaturally intense contractions were unbearable so I had an epidural. Then the normal share of hormones between my baby (oxytocin for instance) and I were severed and I couldn’t work with my baby any longer. My water was also broken when it wasn’t my body/baby’s time, and suddenly my baby went into fetal distress, then I had an emergency c-section… But thank God I was in the care of a SURGEON ‘who could save my baby’s life’ 🤔” ask yourself. Why WOULDN’T a baby go into fetal distress with all of this disgusting intervention? Ask the questions, parents.

These monitors are absolutely appalling. Mamas- do your own research please, and dont just google the mainstream healthcare articles. Ask yourself would a screw in your head feel okay to you? Why then would a baby, of all people, be exempt from this? Just because they can't vocalize in utero does not mean this is not ridiculously inhumane.
@dakz9296
@dakz9296 10 ай бұрын
She mentioned in the video that this is only for critical emergencies. They only do this if they can't hear the baby's heart rate.
@arielfonseca7148
@arielfonseca7148 10 ай бұрын
@@dakz9296 My point exactly, if THEY can't hear the heartbeat. Many times this is absolutely unnecessary. That being said, people should do their own research to understand that in the hospital setting there would have been many interventions at this point which would have led to an irregular heartbeat with baby. This is not natural and not normal, and we shouldn't normalize an inhumane intervention because we caused the need for it in the first place.

They tried to push this on me because they were tired of trying to follow her on an external monitor! (She kept bouncing in and out of my pelvic area). They just didn’t want to check on me as often. I refused to do it the moment they said screw into her scalp. Something didn’t seem right about it and I trust my gut more than some nurse.
