Hi Stephen, this was a brilliant explanation and helped clear some things up in my mind about Kabbala. Unfortunately I've been interacting with a number of believers lately who have been influenced by a claim that Paul and thus Christianity as a whole had esoteric, Jewish mystic roots. The passages they were using to justify their positions were from 2 Corinthians and Ezekiel's vision of the glory of YHWH.

Not to give any credence to Kabbalah, but it’s important to remember that prophets and disciples were all characterized as magicians by magicians. Take how Daniel was considered, for example. Not that a Christian would ever wear the label, though, as it comes with tons of unwanted baggage. Yet, I wouldn’t want Christians to shy away from being truly born again, which falls under the category of ascetic teachings or sanctification, nor shy away from seeing the system used in scripture at large that makes it all fit together, even if it parallels non-kosher systems. There are no islands here.

I practiced Kabbalah and had some pretty terrifying experiences. It’s totally demonic.
