Hi Doug, you missed putting the soy sauce in your egg, it makes it much nicer, sometimes the half/soft boiled egg can taste too raw, the soy sauce helps a lot in balancing it out. Kaya(coconut jam) is a very popular spread in Malaysia and Singapore, made mainly from coconut milk and pandan(a very fragrant plant). Kaya toast served with soft boiled eggs and tea/coffee is the most classic breakfast combo served in kopitiams. I think the best part of the bite, is when all 3 items, the knob of butter, kaya and egg yolk hits the tongue. Oh and the young boy's attitude and service is really very good. Very much enjoying watching your new journey.

Doug, i was always hoping to see you enjoying our Malaysian coffee (kopi-o) as much as you do Starbuck coffee. When i was small boy, i watched street vendors in the market stir fried raw coffee beans on a large wok with margarine until the beans turned black, filled the air with an additive smell. We didn't have western coffee in my town. We enjoy the bitterness and strong kick from this thick, black coffee. Western coffee beans are sun dried then roasted. Anyway, enjoy your adventure in Malaysia!

I liked the coffee/tea mixture that I got at this place. However, I haven't really enjoyed the kopi that I've gotten recently in most restaurants. I don't really know how it is made or what makes it different from a typical Starbucks-style of coffee, but I can't get accustomed to the taste. The way you describe the kopi being prepared when you were a boy sounds wonderful, though. I wonder if that kopi is the same as what I've had in kopitiams here. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong type.

need to put a little soy sauce in the boiled egg and drink it while it's still hot. You can leave out the white pepper, and you don't need to dip it on the toast. The toast can be eaten alone.

Doug, this is Malaysia. If you fancy what they eating , just say "hello" or "sorry" (we use the words interchangably) "looks nice" , "where find, aah?" or "which one, aah?" Point to the stalls, he'll catch the drift.. if it does't work, he probably not from Malaysia. If you did this in Klang, Penang, Melaka or Seremban,, they'ld probably be in your hair and recommend/introduce you to half the menu,, they're more gregarious.

Hi Doug, I have not seen your videos so some time. For some reason, this vid reminds me of the last time you were in Malaysia, you went to Mid Valley Megamall and you were complaining about having to walk from the KTM Komuter station to the Mall. Do you know that the link bridge from the LRT station to Mid Valley is now open? If im not mistaken the station is called Abdullah Hukum.
@PlanetDoug
@PlanetDoug Жыл бұрын
I'd forgotten about that link bridge. Yes, it is probably complete by now. I'll have to check it out soon. Right now, I think the Kelana Jaya LRT line is shut down for repairs and maintenance. But it should open soon.

It's definitely fun to use. It takes more time to edit the video afterwards, and the video quality is often not very good - especially indoors. But it's easier to capture so much more of the scenery and setting and activity around you. You don't have to actually point your camera in different directions. Mine is the Insta360 One X2. And I think the new version, the X3 would be the one to get. They made a lot of improvements.

Hi, Val. It's an Insta360 One X2. And I use it with the Rode Wireless Go microphone. As far as I know, the Rode is the only microphone that can be mounted on the camera. And to do that, you need a special bracket from a company called Ulanzi. The One X2 has been replaced by a new version, which they call simply the Intsta360 X3. They added a lot of improvements to the X3, and the price is roughly the same, so I think the X3 would be the better purchase these days. I wouldn't consider the One X2. I'd just go for the newer X3. 🙂

Stray dogs of the mainly mongrel breed tend to taste gamey, hence the “heavy duty”....Ha ha....
