TEDx Talks

9 жыл бұрын

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What is love indeed?
Born to parents from two different continents, Mia grew up and worked in Europe, Africa and South East Asia. Even while 'helping' her nuclear physicist father and geneticist mother at work, Mia had a hunch that there was more to life than science alone. Obsessed with finding the answer to the question of love she travelled through Tibet, studied jungle survival with Bruce Parry in Borneo, worked as a model in Paris, a journalist in Bangkok, and a human rights researcher in the Middle East, before going to live for a year at a Zen monastery. Finally, she found the answer - with unexpected results. Now a writer about 'spiritual life in the real world' and training to be a counsellor, Mia’s work has been featured in the Guardian, the BBC, The Huffington Post, Time Out, and as Editor to the Buddhist Society. She has an MA in Comparative Literature, three post graduate degrees and a Millennium Award from Jon Snow.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

When I was six years old my Dad went around the table asking us kids what was the most important thing in life. I forgot what I said, then discovered his notes--"love". I experience love with such intensity, the two romantic interests I had/have (first is loving as a friend now), they probably can't imagine how deep my sentiments are. Once I fall in love, I never fall out of love, it is with me forever. Once in a while, you stumble upon a soul that is breathtaking in its raw, unadorned beauty. Just being with them is such an incredible state of bliss, you don't fear death, you fear nothing, you feel safe. I am whole and don't need someone to complete me but when I meet a woman who bewitches me, she is always in my thoughts.

I totally agree with her speech, love can be a big surprise. Sometimes you don’t even expect that it is next to you. It sometimes take a time, you can spend time together as a friend, and after a few years it can change immediately and something magical happens… then you finally may feel how comfortable and full of good vibe you can be in relationship, you have to feel it. If you hesitate - is it a right person, and you’re worry about this relationship, If you have internal feeling that you want to feel more safe, stable etc. So. Go ahead and meet another person, the sky is the limit. This is only your choice, which life you want to create. Process of ending is very hard, but it is worth it, and than when you meet a truly love of your life, you are not hesitate, you just feel it in the air

Mia, thank you for sharing this lovely talk with us. I also would love to share how much i appreciated your vulnerability and the honest, kind way you talked. Your story with the plant made my eyes teary. For i long for such moments in my life and i feel so grateful when they happen. Inclusiveness is such a great ideal. May our illusory sense of separateness melt away into the direct and tangible experience of our collective expanding consciousness.

This is a topic infinitely harder to talk about and more difficult to explain than Brian Green talking about super string theory to an audience full of non-physicists. Brian Green himself could not have explained a very difficult subject any better. This lady is a physicist of another sort; one of the heart and of what really matters, absolute reality! Because real typically normal life matters too!

This topic is a lot harder to talk about because, to talk about love you have to true to yourself, open yourself to others. You see, today there are millions of people, who have friends and family but they ask, write, seek help anonymously. Most of us have friends and family yet we are all alone. I wonder why, we can't open ourselves.

When she spoke of Indras net, and feeling like there was a protective hand over her it rung deep within me. I feel that same protection. Especially when I am at my lowest. The trauma I have experienced my entire life, quite literally, has provided me with the means of empathy & love. As long as I purely love and know that I am capable of it I am free.

True love is the thoughts and deeds of benevolence. Period. Relation issues are one thing in itself, it's all about attachment and bonding. If there is true love in a relation, depends on if the partners are capable of giving and receiving true love, i.e. being benevolent to each other as well as to themselves.

Wow I really loved her speech... It was wonderful to hear her great thoughts.... Just amazing... Everything is a choice in this temporary world .. That's what I believe... Some people are emotional and some not... Its all about the taste of a person that makes the person go forward and select the things which they want... Some gives importance to love some not,, some are into luxuries or money or any other passion... 7.7 billion of the entire world is different and unique in 7.7 billion ways every individual is different and amazing in thereown... For me iam not a emotional person & I don't give much importance to feelings or any such kind of craps...To love someone is a choice what matters for me is not to be harmful by any means...After all I have got one life in this temporary world and its not to get stick with one and to create some unwanted emotions but to enjoy my precious days in the way which I want by chasing my dreams and living it according to my taste and that's what I have to say everyone live a life In your way if it love or money or any kind of passion towards whatever it may go for it.. Its your life and its one time offer use it well rock it your best...live a rememberable worthy life before we depart from this earth... Keep rocking.. Luv u all

Love is a friendship inspires by beauty and truth and sustains by loving-kindness. The rule of friendship means that there must be a mutual understanding between them; each supplying what the other lacks and trying to benefit the other: Always using sincere and friendly words. Therefore the expressions of love must be kind and gentle.

Buddhism is the tool that got her there; probably the most "neutral" tool, which is important when the mind is impressionable because the soul is weak. At the end of the day, we need one another to pass down illuminating though and also to share it. It's less likely that she could have done this on her own; she needed the support network of LOVE
