Lymphoedema or Lymphedema is a chronic condition - this video explains what lymphoedema is and the techniques you can use to treat it.

Lymphoedema or lymphedema is a chronic condition which causes excess fluid to collect in the body’s tissue and cause uncomfortable swelling, usually in the limbs.
Although there is no known cure for Lymphoedema, early detection and intervention can help to significantly reduce the pain and swelling associated with this often debilitating illness.

Well done. And well explained. After two cancer surgeries, this makes good sense in how to explain the resulting disease I have.

I love the explanation but I have to say that I have pain with my lymphedema although that pain has decreased significantly since I started wearing compression. Plus I have never met a doctor who knew much about lymphedema. I have to explain it to them...and explain why a diuretic is not the medication needed when I have an infection...

same here, I am in constant pain with my legs, my doctor is yet to find a specialist for me to work with though.

i have just been diagnosed with lymphoedema after years of swelling and fluid medication not working, I have to say though, I do get pain with mine.

I have been telling my GP for past 11 years or more that my legs were getting swollen, knees down to ankles, and that it was getting worse, he kept saying 'lose weight' or that it was my 'Arthritis'. I was in hospital 4 times and told my GP that the nurses all said why don't you tell you GP to do something about your lymphodema as they couldnt get XXL stockings on me for the operation.... despite this it took all this time for him to write a letter to a vascular surgeon. I wanted to be referred to a lymphodema clinic here in Dublin. Alas now I have had 2 scans CT and am to see the surgeon [privatley and expensively] on 7th Nov. He was not happy about something that showed in stomach and yes, I do have lymphodema, he doesnt seem to know much and told me to get stockings and go and have lymphatic drainage, this cost s 80euro and I am on state pension !!!! I can no longer wear shoes or nice dresses or go out socially and it has had a very bad effect on my social life .My stomach is swollen too.
