Southern Coastal Oregon here - nice informative presentation full of solid good tips and encouragement. I've been working with Mod Podge for years. A fun, satisfying, versatile craft product. I've used it on rocks, canvass, wood, and paper. And now, seeing your presentation, I'm going to check out fabric projects, for a change of pace. You have an authentic, practical vibe about you that's refreshing - like you said, we're all constantly learning and exploring so thanks for the video.

I am a military contractor who has a passion for doing everything myself. I am alone in San Diego so I started arts and crafts to do by myself to help keep me sane since I don't have friends or family out here. I think I started with woodworking first but stopped once I realized I needed hand tools instead of power tools because I'm in an apartment and I don't want my neighbors to hate me but I found out the proper tools I needed were quite expensive so I got a Cricut instead haha... I then taught myself Photoshop to make my own SVGs for Cricut vinyl etc. And now I'm getting into epoxy resin stuff so that's why I'm here because I don't understand what Mod Podge is exactly and I'm always up for learning 🙂 Thank you for answering!

Hey thanks for the information. I was wondering how mod podge would work with letters written in pencil or ink. I am trying to adhere letters I received to a canvas, and there are two parts of the project that I was wondering if I could use mod podge for (adhering the letters to the canvas and then sealing over them) I was wondering particularly with sealing over them if the mod podge would possibly cause the ink in the letters to bleed or somehow damage the paper itself.

I have a tip of beigneers and k wished someone told me about it earlier but to reactivate modpodge All you need to do is heat up some water as hot as you can get it, and use a sponge to apply it to the fabric or paper on the canvas. Hi there! I just stumbled upon your video and have a question. If I don’t have enough mod podge, could I use just elmers glue for the base (under my decoupage) and then just use the mod podge over the top? My project is I’m redoing an old dresser. I’ve sanded all the varnish off, so basically I’m working over bare wood on top of the drawers. OR….should I just buy more mod podge. I’m new to the mod podge medium. Thank you!

Hi I stumbled upon your video which I found very helpful thank you. Can I ask a question. I’ve recently started acrylic dot painting and I’ve just completed some mdf coasters. My concern was what to use to coat them and keep them heat proof. Some one suggested mod podge dishwasher safe. Would you agree this would work to coat them to keep them heat proof to with stand hot cups etc. TIA
@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks 2 жыл бұрын
None of the Mod Podges are heat proof. You'll need something extra on top. Most people use an Engine Enamel from VHT which you can get at a hardware or auto parts store.

Hi. I made a growth chart on a painted wooden board with printable vinyl stickers, and after one year, the stickers are curling away from the board. I tried to seal with Mod Podge, and the sticker ink bled away. Is there a resolution to this issue to save the work created?
@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! It sounds like the quality of the printable vinyl wasn't very good. The reason it bled was because it must've been inkjet . . . which is water soluble and Mod Podge is a waterbased product. I would replace the stickers with laserjet printed or regular cut out adhesive vinyl. You can Mod Podge over laserjet printed. But honestly I don't recommend Mod Podge with vinyl typically. Vinyl should be strong enough to last on its own unless it's not very good vinyl.

It's so funny. We didn't live in a suburb city or near one so we didn't have access to mod podge here in the southeast rural areas in the late 60s, so we used Elmer's glue. It worked fine for us but we had nothing to compare it to then. By the time the fad ended in the early to mid 70s here, the fad faded. Glad to see this had reentered into crafts! And now we use mod podge... Great product!

Hello. From Long Island, NY here. Thank you so much for your video. Ive always wanted to decoupage but never endeavored mostly due to lack of time. But I am home recovering from surgery and just moved last year and there are lots of projects I‘ve been itching to do around my home. I have this vintage doorbell plastic case in my foyer that I’ve been wanting to revamp. And so I used mod podge today to glue on this beautiful French peacock tissue paper to cover. It’s drying now. But not sure if I can paint over the tissue with the mod podge to seal. Will the white color dry to clear? will continue to watch the video for the answer.

All of that sounds fine to use with Mod Podge. Mod Podge works fine with acrylic paint and cardboard. Polyfil . . . test it first. Put a little bit on the top and let it dry and see what happens. Just a very small spot!

Hello I am new to mod podge. I am attempting to make a memorial plaque. I stained the wood with a water based stain. It is not sealed. I have a poster that I ordered and is printed on photo paper (pretty thick). My main questions are: Will the stain bleed through the photo/poster? Or should I seal it with something first? Also will the ink on the photo/poster itself bleed? I do not know what type of printer it was printed on. And finally is a spray shellac for arts and crafts ok to use for the finished product and/or possibly throughout other parts of the project as a sealer?
@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks Жыл бұрын
Hi there! If the stain is acrylic, it shouldn't bleed. The poster should be printed laserjet and it shouldn't bleed. If you don't know what type of printer there is a risk, but most posters are printed on laserjet. And also, you can do a small test in one corner. Yes, you can spray seal the stain before applying the poster with Mod Podge. Just use a durable acrylic spray sealer. And you would be able to use this same spray as the finished product and throughout other parts of the project!

I have sketched out 4 different numbers (for an address) that I want to transfer onto a plastic sticky back. Which Mod Podge would be best to adhere the text to this material for the transfer? I need it to transfer so I can then cut the individual numbers out and stick them to something. I’m not 100% on what the sticky back material is made of. It is reflective material that you would normally see on high-vis highway cones. 🙏

Hi Rebecca! I sometimes use it out of the jar if it's a small straightforward project. If there's a lot of glitter, paint, etc. that will get into everything, I do pour it into a paint tray. Some people use small cups!

Was looking for a sealer for simple acrylic paint projects. Thought this was it but in the formula guide it states mod podge does 3 things....then states that sometimes it dries ? sticky.... so apply a couple of coats of a sealer....hmmm was looking for a sealer...thought this was a sealer so am I sealing the sealer?
@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks Жыл бұрын
The answer is it depends :) Depending on the climate and the formula, Mod Podge can take awhile to become less tacky . . . I mean sometimes it does dry totally *not* sticky. I use the Hard Coat the most and it never dries tacky. I never add an additional sealer. So with the it depends answer, some people just either 1) want to forgo all that or 2) add extra protection. And sticky is definitely an extreme word. More like a little tacky as opposed to sticky, and that goes away with time.

I would like to mount a 68 x 42" piece of fabric to a piece of styrofoam insulation for a wall hanging. Styrofoam is covered with a foil. I bought Fabric Mod Podge, but was that the right choice? Your recommendation please.
@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol! If it's just a wall hanging, you can use any Mod Podge formula - I'd stick with the Gloss, Matte, or Satin based on the finish you like. I mean you can use the Fabric formula . . . but it's really made for attaching fabric to fabric so it can be washed.

Would this be okay to mix with acrylic paint ? I'm trying to paint the rubber outsole on my shoe project and was told it's possible to mix with paint when applying to rubber
@ModPodgeRocks

It would BUT it's not going to stick to the rubber. Acrylic products, unless they are made for rubber, will just peel right off rubber soles.

You should seal it, but use a spray sealer. Since you aren't decoupaging, you don't need Mod Podge. Just use a spray enamel sealer :)

You could use any clear drying glue for this! Don't use too much of any adhesive - use a very thin layer. If you used Mod Podge, the gloss would be fine.

@ModPodgeRocks
@ModPodgeRocks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! I'm not sure exactly what you could use, but it would have to be way more intense than an acrylic product. Mod Podge or other mediums like this wouldn't work for a stepping stone that would get constant foot traffic as well as have to sustain the elements. There are tutorials that show how to transfer photos to rocks with MP, but I wouldn't walk on them.

What Mod Podge bottle do I use for a color picture of a paper doll I downloaded from my computer using regular typing paper ? I plan on glueing the typing paper sheet image of this doll first on thicker piece of cardboard, cutting it out and if possible I want to give it a little shine . also do I have to spray the image first with hair spray so that the layer of mod podge won't make the colors of my paper doll run ? Thanx ! 😉👍

I would like to ask if I want to glue several small (16x16) cm mirrors on foam board, can I use Mod Podge glue for this and which type? I have the waterbase sealer at home, which I bought by chance, because I didn't know that there are many different types of Mod Podge. I only speak a little English and I don't really understand which one is good for what. I glued it together with hot glue and Elmer's. I left it overnight and put a heavy weight on the mirror, and the next day two pieces remained, two fell off. May I have an answer to my first question?

Hi Chirleia! Yes it is. For the plastic, you would need a plastic paint or it will scratch off. I always use a plastic spray primer first before MP. On a mason jar, you'll want to use a glass or multisurface paint and follow curing instructions before Mod Podging.

Hi Lindsay - you might have used a little more Mod Podge in some areas than others. You can try putting a warm over (like 200 degrees or lower) to see if it will dry. If it doesn't dry it means there is too much Mod Podge in that area.
