Such an amazing channel, Orthodoxy is not a rigid set of rules, but a living relationship with God! God bless ☦️.

The more I study Orthodoxy, the more I see there are huge gaps in our Protestant church/tradition. A lot more things are making more sense. So glad this channel exists.

Eastern Orthodox have the True Relationship with God! ive been so sick of the people and the churches. Not once in my life i have and will ever say i want to go to a "church." But oh boy do i want to go to an Eastern Orthodox Church! No one in the "Churches" today have a True Relationship yet they claim to and thats all that matters to them.

Listening to the tone of voice and kindness of heart you brothers speak is in itself a call to Orthodoxy. Unlike Protestantism, it is not harsh, but gentle.❤

That's something I've noticed too! It's hard to describe, but you can really hear the love within these priests and monks. It's a beautiful thing.

From Los Angeles and the Orthodox Church has been pulling in. Through research and faith, I believe God is guiding me to start worshipping my Lord Jesus Christ at this church. I am a former Jehovah Witness after my new road to my faith and I been wondering where to get baptized.

This is so exciting--praise God! If you have not been able to regularly attend an Orthodox church yet, I would start there--whichever one or two are closest to your home in LA. It's in the South Bay, but St. Matthew Orthodox Church in Torrance, may be a good start. It's a smaller community (easier to get to know folks/ask questions) and the priest there worked at Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City, which is a vibrant and beautiful Orthodox community. The priest will be able to get you plugged into a catechism class to learn more about Orthodoxy. They also have weekly Bible studies, men's groups, and ministry opportunities, which would also be educational & edifying. Hopefully you can be baptized by Easter (Pascha)! Grace and peace!

So important. There are not two different spiritualities, there are not two different Gospels! The spiritual life is the same for monks and laypeople, the only difference is the intensity, the fundamentals are the same.

Father John here provides some great commentary about the Orthodox life. He is spot on. I am a Protestant chaplain. I would encourage anyone wanting to know some good brief information about the Monastic life, then you can listen to this video, and you will then be greatly informed. Very respectfully, Chaplain Brian Merk

The Desert and Hesychastic Farhers continue to be a source of inspiration Thanks be to God☦️🙏 I think what confuses many of our friends in the protestant world about monasticism, due in part to aberrations that developed in the medieval Roman catholic expressions of it. There is this either/or view where "if the monks are most Holy why try" this is the wrong way to look at it and to build on father's illustration of sports or musicians we don't tell the local high school sports player or casual musician "don't try because you aren't in the pro leagues". We struggle where God has placed us. Christianity is fundamenally an ascetic faith and when this centrality is lost calamity arises.

Beautiful explanation Father. My first Divine Liturgy was at a Sister’s Monastery in Shannonbridge Ireland. Sister Iosifia is the head sister. It pushed all doubt out of my mind that Orthodoxy was the right path for me.

Im a 41 single guy in Canada. Recently became a catechumen, and without trying to sound prideful, I would love to be a monk. For me being Protestant for 40 years, Orthodoxy was always inevitable. Perhaps my odd disconnect and inability to relate to the world is what draws me to desire monkhood. I guess time will tell. For now, I will follow my Jesus every day wherever He leads me.

Father, may I quote you “..the food at the Monastry is the best in the world…because it is infused with prayers..because it is the kingdom of Heaven…!” That’s my takeaway from your sharing of your experiences in your visits at the monasteries around the world. Might I add that your delight and relish in the food at the monasteries is liken to that of a “banquet with angels”(to borrow a phrase that the Great St Athanasius mentioned in one of his quotes). It seems food at the monasteries indeed is empowered all the more with the infusion of prayers and thus the monks are able to accomplish what they set out to do which seems impossible to most ordinary beings. Might I add one more reflection that comes to mind that after all it is the Word that sustains the monks as Christ our Saviour demonstrates when He fasted for 40 days in the desert. With God everything is possible!!!

Us Protestants have our own version of monks historically, they're called Puritans. The more I read Puritan spirituality and the more I hear of orthodox monasticism, the more I see great similarities between the two. I think there's great room for ecumenical agreement and fellowship when we consider how similar the apex of Protestant spirituality compares with the apex of orthodox spirituality. .

Does the Orthodox church believe that people can directly pray to or approach God or must we go through the priest?
@onlyjoshing
@onlyjoshing 9 күн бұрын
We need a preist for sacraments like communion and baptism. You can certainly pray directly to God. There are actually Saints who lived very hard lives and couldn't make it to Sunday services, but praised God in their labor, ending up in heaven after passing on.

Catholics and Orthodox are all still part of the single body of Christ - many disagree but you cant argue with Prophesy, St Paul and the prayers and Prophesy of Christ Himself...
@Damascene749

“Many disagree” you mean most of your church and all of our Orthodox Church disagrees. That’s 95% of people. Your “church” killed our saints, destroyed our churches and mocked us for centuries.
