What is Palliative Care - An Introduction for Patients and their Families

This patient education video offers an introduction to palliative care, which provides support and relief to any person from the symptoms of cancer or side effects of treatment, regardless of age or type and stage of disease. It is led by Dr. Michael Fisch, survivor Holly Anderson, Dr. Jennifer S. Temel, and Dr. Dorothy M.K. Keefe.

Obviously, the people who have commented so far, (3) have never had to deal with a chronic illness. This is just much needed part of total care for people with serious chronic illness.

@@elbacar4838 what? You can stop what? I have a genetic disease, there is no stopping that. It has no treatment. Not all palliative care is hospice, a lot of it is just focusing on quality of life and functioning and what can help a patient live their life in as much comfort and respect as possible - be that for the next 30 years or 30 days. Palliative care isn't just for the dying: hospice is. I am 24 and have been on palliative care for 2 years. There is no treatment for my condition, but palliative care is an amazing support for me and helping manage my symptoms and allow me to live as well as possible, for the rest of my life, which will hopefully be quite long. What an ignorant and cruel comment to say to those with serious conditions.

How nicely they speak. How come I have not received stress treatment in my 40 years of disease? And am not getting any medical help since years?

In india none of the dr explain or even talk about palliative care, here stage iv means thats all the oncology dr will soon finish the patient

Wow, I ave hardly ever been able to speak openly with my doctors without fear and without their disapproval. They seem to think tht they own one and don't think they have to co-work with and tell one about the illness, what I have to do, what can and will be done by them and other therapists, and the potential, prognosis

@@polly6336 As a medical student, we learn the 3 school of thoughts; the act of doing anything with the intent to kill is always wrong as it is murder. Some have argued againts it, but as of now the act of euthanasia is still illegal.

@lrcthe5763 Many Doctors Are Not The Saints That You Think They Are.Havent You Ever Watched AMERICAN GREED .There Was An Episode Where This Doctor Was Diluting Peoples Chemo Medicine Dosage .He Never Told Them They Were Not Getting The Full Dosage And He Only Got Caught Because So Many Patients Were Dying. And There Was One Doctor Who Was Buying Body Parts From A Funeral Home .What He Did Was Put Cancerous Bones In People Who Needed Bones Replaced.
