What Is Pitchy Singing? + How To Avoid It

All beginner singers go through a pitchy phase. It is totally okay to be pitchy from time to time. We are not robots, and we do not need to aim for robotic perfection when it comes to music, because that will suck out all the flavor and expression in how we sing.

I’m doing musical theater. I’m pitchy sometimes (I’ve been told) so I’m very embarrassed 😓. Thank you for help! I try to hard to sing the high notes and low notes I ThINk I can sing, but actually can’t. 😑

I lack confidence when it comes to certain songs😭 so I avoid doing runs etc and if I'm doing a song where I didn't want to sing I'm often told to watch my pitch but they don't say where I'm pitchy so thank u🙏🏾😭

When you say ear training do you mean I should be able to tell what note/key I’m hearing or just be able to tell when it’s different? I can’t figure out why I am so bad at singing on pitch. I can’t afford lessons and I feel so embarrassed. It’s not like I’m horrible like I sing the right note it’s just never in tune and it makes me want to stop :(

Like I sang in school from preschool to the end of high school, and our choir teacher gave us all weekly lessons in high school, but it’s been a few years and even then I had this exact problem. And because it makes me self conscious I end up not being able to sing loudly, and when I try to sing loudly it makes it worse. I feel hopeless. I don’t understand what people are supposed to do if they can’t afford lessons. I feel like I can’t do anything because I don’t have the money to get better at anything.
