It's amazing to see how hockey and the inline skates - and all sort of skating can make a significant change in the life of people - I've seen a few times people getting up on their feet (or skates) after a great loss, health problems, etc - just by embracing this sports. What Bauer is doing, along with other hockey industries is a major step reaching people all over the world with all sort of sports! Congrats, and I have to say, I'm proud to be a part of skating world!

Congrats to Bauer for trying to tackle concussions from the inside! We keep trying to defy the laws of physics and stop the brain from bouncing off the inside of our skulls from the outside with multiple iterations of the same failed device: helmets. Great work and I am excited to see long term results.

I was into competitive speed skating during the time when neck laceration protectors became mandatory (after someone took a horrific blade to the neck during a race). I remember at the time we all complained, claimed it slowed us down or was a bit uncomfortable. Looking back on it were were just being dumb, it was for our own good and I'm glad we were made to wear them.

Does it not increase the blood pressure in your brain and therefore increase the chance of stroke? does it give you a crocky voice as well?

The first study involving athletes used a high school hockey team and advanced imaging techniques to compare pre- and mid-season changes to white matter structure in the brain. In half a season of play, each athlete received an average of 190 impacts over 20g, with an average impact level of 38g. As shown with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), athletes not wearing the collar showed statistically significant changes in white matter microstructure of the brain, while athletes wearing the collar showed no significant changes despite similar levels in accumulated accelerations from head impacts. The full details of the study are available at: Myer GD, Yuan W, Barber Foss KD, et al. (2016) The Effects of External Jugular Compression Applied during Head Impact Exposure on Longitudinal Changes in Brain Neuroanatomical and Neurophysiological Biomarkers: A Preliminary Investigation. Please note that this is a medical device regulated by Health Canada and the FDA. The claims the company can make are only those that the clinical study proved to be significant. The collar works perfectly as designed. You should read the clinical studies before casting judgement

It is a legitimate device that has been proven to reduce traumatic brain injury. The collar is whole lot less expensive than MRIs, and permanent brain damage, and also completely worth it to protect the most important organ in the human body.

Question(s): With the decreased venous return of blood from the brain, and increased blood flow to the brain, is there any chance of pressure increasing too much? Have there been cases where players get headaches from wearing them for too long? Or is this specifically designed to put "x" amount of pressure on the veins so that the decreased blood flow is still enough to compensate for the imbalance in total flow?

One assumption I noticed was in the Egg in the Jar example. The assumption was that there’s an air pocket in the cavity that contains the brain. This is inaccurate and a false display of normal conditions in a brain cavity. That being said, I’m interested to see further scientific experiments with this device on rotational impacts to the head. Also, MIPS and Wavecel technologies are being used in bicycle and ski helmets with promising scientific and experimental results against rotational impacts to the head; which cause concussions. Search KZfaq for videos of theses technologies for more info.

Me personally at my hockey school we got to try it out. First, you feel really light headed for a few minutes. Second, you run out of breath faster which is bad for grinding players. Third, this thing costs like 200 dollars. I don’t really like it.

Read on Poiseuille's Law and how it relates to hemodynamics. Serious head injuries such as a cerebral contusion (frequently associated with edema) increases intracranial pressure. Because kids fall and hit their heads in hockey I would be more concerned with the effects of head trauma than the benefits of this product (legitimate or not). Based on this video I can't see any benefits of this product other than it causing more harm. Spend the money you would have spent on skating lessons...this will more than likely make you or your kids better hockey players and reduce the risk of injuries. Btw, if your brain is that loosely held in your skull as that egg in a jar, contact sports (or any athletics) may not be advisable. Also, someone else commented, "this is a stroke or aneurysm waiting to happen."

That's false, the padding inside helmets dicipate the energy placed on the exterior of the helmet reduced the during sudden deceleration type impacts such as body checks to the head therefore lessening intracranial pressure And therefore preventing concussions.....Good try brah...

Helmets have only been shown to reduce concussions by 1%, this collar has been clinically shown to reduce brain injury or concussion damage by 83%. It's all inspired by physiology and 100% works. The only reason they can't say it PREVENTS concussions is because its not 100% effective, and companies can not make claims like that or they will get sued. They can say however that is reduces brain injury by a substantial amount.
