Fun fact (because this was bugging me) - the lettering "彩虹" (Cǎihóng) is actually the Chinese spelling for "rainbow". I initially thought it was Japanese too, as someone who is learning the language, but couldn't for the life of me find out what "Sainiji" or "Ayaniji" meant. If you flip it around, "虹彩" (Kousai) is the Japanese word for "Iris" referring to the part of your eye that holds color, and is also a reference to the Greek Goddess of Rainbows with the same name... Why MGA chose Chinese writing and then put Japanese Katakana below is beyond me. Probably translation errors which is quite disrespectful, but I have no right to speak on that.

That Louis Vuitton bag was literally a collab originally with a Japanese company that was released in the early 2000s, the cheek for mga to say that THEY’RE copying them is astounding😭

Oh, the doxxing absolutely happened. The reason Michael deleted his social media was because he was forced to by MGA before being placed on employee probation due to his behavior. You probably wouldn't have been able to find much of his online history anyways though, as he's always kept private accounts and was only active in private groups. A lot of us watched the doxxing as it went down and the victim has since updated to say that both MGA and Michael issued personal apologies after some back and forth with MGA's lawyers, but never a public acknowledgment. They seem inclined to sweep the incident away. Awesome hair, btw!

To answer a few questions: - Yes that minor was doxxed. I, and much of the RH community were following the designer at the time and he posted a temporary instagram story of a Google Maps image with some quirky "hehe let's chat!! :3" with the minors real address. He really thought he did something there.. It was SWIFTLY deleted. Rainbow High never said a word about it and swept it under the rug, even though "FIRE HIM" was spammed under all of thier social media posts for weeks on end. His social media was deleted. (He's been back btw just low key) Nobody knows if any legal action were taken, but said minor is part of the community and we believe they just can't mention anything at all for legality reasons. - Winter Break Jade and a few other dolls are VERY prone to being stained like yours. :( Winter Break Jade / Ruby, Jett Dawson, Stella Monroe, and Emi Vanda all have pretty significant issues with the majority of thier dols being stained from thier clothing. :/ (You're going to lose it when Shadow High comes out, there's a few tiny leaks of them floating around right now but they're SO YOU!!)

Oh, the doxing DEFINITELY happened - there were a few pages with the evidence. Basically the kid got the doll off of Taobao and was posting them early right as series 3 was first being revealed. M. Scott antagonized this person by posting the original map picture in his stories which led to the lead designer first privating his social media and then deleting it and re-opening it quietly. During that time at least one other kid say they were similarly antagonized but that one didn't post more about it so take the second one with a grain of salt.

The odd thing with the quality control is that it's only on specific dolls. The entire winter break line will almost never have flaws, except Jade and Ruby. And with series 3, the only characters that seem to come with major defects ever are Daria and Emi. It's just odd Also another issue is that there are just random variants of certain dolls. Sheryl is advertised having heavy lip liner and dark eyebrows to reference 90s makeup trends, but for whatever reason, it's a toss up whether or not you'll get her actual makeup or a completely solid colored lip with light eyebrows

I’ve been collecting RH since the very first wave after the rebrand from the slime monstrosities, and I am actively involved in the online doll community and I was there and can confirm that the head designer did in fact doxx that minor. The image shown along with the petition to get Michael Anderson fired is actually the screenshot of what he posted on his Instagram story just with the kids address scribbled out. Also Michael Anderson actually reactivated his Instagram a few months ago though it’s now private and he no longer posts about working at MGA.

The doxxing thing definitely happened, he literally posted the kid's address on his story. He also threatened to doxx another account as well. MGA negotiated with the victim, and having him not be on social media was part of the agreement.

As someone who bought their Sunny doll the day Rainbow High dropped, I can say there ARE issues. Actually, my Sunny is the only one with no true issues. My Kia doll has one of her hands with no painted nails, and one of her shirts was ripped. I sewed up the ripped shirt but the nail is a big issue. I've just come to accept the fact that she paints the nails on her predominate hand so she can remember she uses that one . My other doll, Krystal, has SUCH crunchy hair. Like, I've had dolls with so much glue in their hair you can see it and I've gotten that out. But no matter what I do, her hair is still crunchy. Her legs, hands, and arms look like she was thrown against a wall multiple times as they're very scuffed up. There's other things like her hair constantly falling out and her eye paint being uneven, but those are less noticeable. i also once saw a doll in the store (rainbow high) missing a hand. just...no hand anywhere. I do want a couple more RH dolls, but I'm put off because of Krystal. It may just be her, but I don't know. I'll stick to collecting plushies. and yes that doxxing of a minor is true.

The mscott drama was real, he had posted a child's literal address on his Instagram story and a caption that said "Let's Talk" or something similar. Pretty sure Instagram banned him because of the doxxing and a bunch of people reporting him over it.

I only have 2 Rainbow High dolls which are Daria and Georgia and they do have markings on some of their limbs, but they don't really bother me. When I was taking Daria's hands off to change her clothes, I noticed that the pegs on her hands are different. The left was longer and the right was shorter. The hand's peg broke inside and I swear I didn't break it. I would've heard it snap if I did. Luckily, the ball part that holds into the arm is still attatched.

I do buy from the store most of the time, so I usually have fairly decent dolls, but consumers have more rights for product replacements in Australia than they do in the US, so if there is a fault, I can just request replacements from the store or from MGA Aus direct. Have to say, I am really really happy that you covered Rainbow High. If you start collecting them, I will be SO HAPPY haha. Rainbow High and Lol OMG are the reasons I started collecting dolls. I always want to collect barbies as a kid but was always too ashamed. Now as an adult, i dont care! GIMME THE DOLLS!

I once received a defective Rainbow High doll from an online purchase ( I own all released to date) and I emailed their customer service to report it and I received a replacement in the mail within 3 days, the dolls are amazing and in a league of their own, I advise you to reach out to their customer service… I have nothing but praise for MGA and their products! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Rainbow High dolls brought back my love of doll collecting that I lost after Ever After High dolls got discontinued. They are so freaking pretty!

i really adore rainbow high dolls, but they definitely are nowhere near perfect dolls. when they first released, the shine on their face was so severe they just looked sweaty. the ankle articulation comment is really interesting to me actually because there is only one rainbow high doll with ankle articulation, that doll being the collector jett dawson (and the giant amaya but i dont count her.) really enjoyed your review of them! hope youll cover the show in the future! its very queer.

Quality control has been a major issue with mga at the moment, and It's prevented me from buying any dolls (not in "surprise" packaging) online. I understand that the dolls at at a very reasonable price point for their articulation and detail, but major issues are so frequent with the brand, and mga seems to be doing nothing to improve it. Also, omg your hair looks so good.

Yeah, a lot of the problems you've experienced with Jade are still fairly common. I'm more of a customizer than a collector, but I do have a few Rainbow High dolls that are for displaying as is (and some for customs, still figuring out what I want to make first). What I am gonna say is that for the price point these dolls are at, I'm a little bummed that I've had a serious defect on pretty much every one I've bought that either wasn't noticable until the clothes came off, or I didn't get to pick because they were only available online. There have been a ton of supply issues, some characters never make it to my retailers (still can't find Emi Vanda, very sad about it). My Stella and Daria were both stained on their skin because of their clothes, but because I contacted MGA's help desk, they were willing to replace the parts that were broken. I'm sadly about to do the same with Winter Break Violet, who I adore, but it sucks that her cheeks came stained with some kind of glue, I can't scrub it off with soap. I will say, in regards to articulation, you're correct. The only doll I know of with ankle joints is Jett Dawson, who was pretty exclusive, and her joint was a bit funky. I will say though, so glad these dolls are FINALLY getting neck articulation, they didn't have it originally and it sucked. Now if we can just fix the knee so it works like a double joint, that would be great. I will say, definitely keep an eye out, given your style, I think you'd like what they're cooking up for Shadow High. So far it's been leaks only, but what we've seen is so cool, I can't believe they're so monochrome and edgy.

While the dolls are expensive, they are very high quality with well thought out and put together outfits. I'm not a huge fan of the big heads and eyes (although I LOVE that commercial dolls have inset eyes), so I haven't been collecting them but I can admire good work when I see it. Might be good to hybrid with another head.

Super side note that's unrelated. When I introduced Rainbow High to my sibling, I also made her search the brand itself MGA. It being late at night that time, she was lazy so she didn't put MGA in all caps when searching anymore. As Filipinos, this totally changed the meaning of the company for me because "mga" literally is just the plural form of any noun after that word in Tagalog. So when I asked her to search "MGA dolls", they searched "mga dolls" instead and google just gave her literally any doll image as long as there were many in one photo. I can never pronounce and take MGA seriously every again because MGA toys and MGA dolls just translates to "toys" and "dolls" HAHAHAHA

The hair loss is just initial, it happens to with all dolls, maybe if they’re meticulously handmade not but yeah. With the scuffs and paint on the dolls it’s something ive found with almost all dolls ive bought from that brand. They’re usually small and not that noticeable but it bothers me sometimes. Usually ive found them on the legs, i think it’s because of the material the legs are made of. LOL doll legs (omg dolls?) theyre softer and its easier to imprint stuff and or scratch the doll.

I love RH! I have a small collection & put all together they all look great! Yes quality control is an issue so I agree & definitely recommend picking them up in store, but aside from that; when you get a good one the doll ends up being phenomenal in comparison to even Barbie & they’re both play line. Like despite them being play line it feels like they were made with adult collectors in mind which would not only explain the details but also the price range. I definitely would recommend looking into getting others because majority of the ones out are so unique from each other. Series 3 is one of the newest waves & those don’t have the hair gel at all, you’ll definitely come across fallout but that’s pretty much expected but it’s not a big deal since they’re usually so thickly rooted. Emi, Carmen, Daphne, Gabriella, Daria, Bella, Simone, Harper & Margot are some of my personal favorites! Also everyone ships Jade & Bella and they’re ship name is Jella.

I’m not a doll collector but I think the doll are cool. They do have a KZfaq channel on the series that you forgot to talk about but that’s ok. I’m more into the series then dolls anyway.

They are actually pretty good about replacing faulty items or parts! Also I personally love that there are some makeup differences from doll to doll and I enjoy finding the ones with softer makeup. Also magic eraser works on a lot of marks! But I do wish they sold fashion packs of the outfits so you don't have to buy a doll to get an outfit

This is the first doll series I actually started collecting! Missed the EAH and MH doll train so now they're way too expensive (my wallet is better for that) but also the quality of the RH clothing is top quality for a fashion doll line and gets better with every series, I bought Delilah Fields from the newest line and her jeans have *working front and back pockets* like I took off her earrings and they fit in them!!! Which is absolutely adorable and literally better than most of my jeans

The M Scott controversy was real… I’m in the fandom on Instagram and I remember the day it happened so clearly. It was so ridiculous too bc the brand leaks early all the time, like nearly every release. It wasn’t the first time someone bought a doll before release and it wasn’t the last. I got my first RH doll two days ago and I'm so impressed! The design, big amount of details, long thick hair, beautiful eyes and the list goes on... At first I wasn't big fan of them, but when I grabbed Violet in my hands and took her out of box, I felt in love!

I have 15 of the RH dolls lol, almost 16-17 come my birthday in a few days. They are beautiful and Ive been fortunate to not have any major defects. Most I've had are small random dots of paint or overgeled hair 🤗

its nice to hear the opinion of someone who hasnt been collecting since day 1! I think the dolls are some of the best on the market right now, and the designs and what they're giving us just keep getting better. The main problem is the community. It seems like they don't really take the time and realize just how high quality they are and would rather cry to mga for a whole replacement doll just because of minor issues.

I bought series two Amaya, and her second outfit was missing so I sent her back. Beyond that, I have three Rainbow High dolls and I absolutely adore them. Definitely my favorite dolls I own at this moment.

I have 11 rainbow high dolls and I haven’t had any issues so far with quality control (thank god) but I HAVE seen defective dolls in the store (specifically target) some have messed up rooting, sometimes the makeup doesn’t match or its misprinted, sometimes the dolls names on the boxes will be misspelled, sometimes the doll eyes are wonky, sometimes the painting on the accessories will leave paint stains, you literally have to play inspector and heavily inspect the dolls to make sure there aren’t any issues or else you’re buying a doll with one arm shorter than the other (which HAS happened to me with one of my bratz dolls lol)

As a Rainbow High collector, yeah the MGA quality control is questionable at best. I can't get out easily, so I buy most of my dolls online with mixed results. I have an Amaya (series 2) who literally has two different size eyes like the face got messed up in the mold or something. Their hands are designed to be removable for easier outfit changes, but with some of the dolls it's a struggle to get them in and out. Some other issues like makeup errors can be fixed with artistic talent except that's a thing I don't have. At the end of the day, the dolls are at least gorgeous from a distance, and they can't be that bad cause I keep buying them. Also, you should watch the show because it's a lot of fun

I do currently own 11 Rainbow High dolls and can say for certain that quality control is a big issue. I love the small details that they put into the dolls but some of my doll's clothes literally came broken. For example, I bought Kia Heart from a local target. She was the last one left and I have been really wanting her for a while. When I got home and took her out of the package I noticed that on her jean jacket one of her patches was coming off. I was extremely disappointed because she was supposed to be a special edition (aka more money) and she was already breaking. I do really like the dolls but, MGA really needs to fix issues like this.

I got the 80 dollar Chinese New Year doll because I saw her in a TikTok and she was just absolutely too gorgeous. The quality isn’t the best, she has mistakes in her makeup and marks on her back. Neither are noticeable unless pointed out so I wasn’t bothered too much. She was my first rainbow high doll because I personally cannot stand the shimmer they have on their faces , imo it makes them look greasy and her shimmer wasn’t as extreme as others. I love the doll besides the mistakes and thought to buy another doll that was also less sparkly for customizing and her hair was perfect like she was fresh out of Box but the second I touched it it just shed alot! I ended up washing all the gel out of her hair and there was a hairball about as big as her head. I dare not touch the hair on my CNY doll
