Technique: Silver staining
In this video I describe how silver staining works. It is used in DNA, RNA and protein research, and it is used to stain tissues particularly the brain. So you can see it is a very diverse technique, in fact black and white photography can be seen as a form of silver stain. Silver staining relies on the process of turning a transparent solution of a silver salt (silver nitrate), into opaque metallic silver. In this video I explain how this happens and how this process can be utilized as a stain in histology and in vitro (test tube) techniques.
