Saanen 1984 - Question #2 from Question & Answer Meeting #1
'What is the action of not letting memory intrude? Is it to see its presence as it arises and drop it instantly, or should one be in a state where memory does not raise its head unless it is necessary?'
---
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

27:00 if I am attentive there is no reaction, which means that there also is no recording at all (there is nothing to be recorded): I am not there to be recorded. I am my reactions, when there are no reactions, I am not. The body can still have reactions, but when I am aware of these reactions, and I do not react to them, then I am not recorded anymore, I am not there anymore, the one that is constantly judging is not there. I can still have head ache, but if I don't define "headache" as something bad, if I don't react to headache at all, then headache is not something bad anymore!! Without the "ME" headache is not bad nor good, it just is!
@Andrei-ti1ij
@Andrei-ti1ij 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know if there is any difference between the body and the mind, or anything else, I only know that what Krishnamurti says can be it in different words to be more understandable. And I've understood from him that the only reaction you can have to something in order to see that something as it is, is the reaction of the dead man!!!!!! How would a dead man react to headache if he could have headache??? The answer is that a dead man would react in the same way in which an enlightened person would react to it! Which is total lack of reaction. In total lack of reaction headache is meaningless. If instead I react to headache, for example I hate having headache, or it makes me feel sad, then headache is not meaningless, then headache is something that has power over myself and my behaviour, then headache is the cause, and the way I behave is the effect. Action which is not caused, is the only kind of action an enlightened being knows, if he knows anything at all... An enlightened being forgets once and for all to react :))) forgets once one for all that he exists The reactions of the body are there but the reactions of the "I" stop totally. These people has seen the end of the I, which has succumbed through total lack of reactions, in the moment in which they have become enlightened, the end of the entity that has reactions besides the body and though it is also identified with the body, the entity that has totally different reactions from the body even though it thinks to be the body. The end of this entity, is the end of the " second level" of reaction which are the reactions of the "I" : at the "first level " we have the reactions of the body to cold, to sensations, reactions of eyes to light etc.... Which are made by nature itself, not by us. In an enlightened being only nature's actions remain

Memory only records when we're not in full attention. If you live in a state of inattention then you consistently repeat what you record. Since inattention is simply time, choice, anger, worry ect. Those properties are repeated But if your present, Wich is awareness, theirs no way of repeating time and when you have a moment of inattention it is greatly noticed and can be addressed immediately. MEMORY ONLY RECORDS IN OUR INATTENTION

I think I get it. This learning its like to have a pure stance, learning from what you are observing like it is the first time, with your whole attention. It is an infinite learning, this learning doesn't want to reach the end, the conclusion, it wants to keep learning forever about what is being observed. It does not record, its like a river of learning, superpositioning the learning each moment. There is some beauty, some freshness in this act. You have to assume a humble, pure stance like you doesn't know anything, then you are totally open to learn from scratch, learn from zero. Then you will pay attention with your whole being and enter in this non ending process of learning. Its not about reaching conclusions, its about attention and this infinite learning.

a couple things for folks listening ... when he says "recording psychologically" he is saying we have recordings in our subconscious mind that are basically NOT reality (and these things hold our mind back from progression). We can stop these things from occurring in the NOW, but based on past items, when they come up, we need to drop them and first realize they are there because of our FEELINGS toward them in the past. We must realize its the combination of feeling + the feelings with these memories (thoughts) that caused them to hit the subconscious in the first place, so you can stop feelings and thoughts now, but for past items that come up, recognize them for what they are and WHY they are recorded and drop them.

I would have liked to know Krishnamurti's thoughts on the following scenario. Suppose a wife is living with a husband suffering from alcoholism, and she has built up the image of his being an alcoholic. Now if she were free of that image, would he thereby cease being an alcoholic? It seems reasonable to say that she would still have to deal with the husband's problem (which in turn would be part of her problem, since she lives with him), image or no image. Now I neither support nor reject this train of thinking. I'm investigating it. The implication of harboring no image is that whatever the wife DOES at that point will be appropriate because she's acting spontaneously. In other words, since she's free of the conditioning of the image, her action in relation to her husband will be sound and correct. Freedom from the image implies clarity of thought and action.

My take is that if the wife has free herself totally from the image of her husband of being alcoholic and feel good at whatever her husband does, then the action of the husband will slowly develop towards the direction of bringing peace and harmonious relationship. This is provided they still live together and loved each other.
@DavidWallaceHaskins
@DavidWallaceHaskins 3 ай бұрын
Freeing ourselves from the image of the other doesn’t directly change any condition they might be suffering from- but it does fundamentally alter the nature of our interaction with them. Imageless beholding of the other means being rooted in a kind of loving clarity, free from past conditioning, which dissolves reactivity and makes room for us to respond naturally in love- in a way that honors and respects ourselves and others- so if the wife did this then it would mean caring healthfully for herself and her husband in a way that would hold space for curiosity and compassion to offer profound support and healing alongside healthy boundaries-which would be the most conducive environment for the husband to come home to his own awareness. Simply put, if she rests in Being then rests in a place of beloved belonging and deep centered connection and wholeness - and life lived from beloved belonging in love, wholeness, and connection always leads to more love, wholeness, and connection. So if anyone lives and loves from that place they will not only find their own peace and wholeness but they will naturally respond to all relational experiences around them in a way that fosters the same in others- like K did.

Memory should not be brought in to relationships. It is the nature of Consciousness to record the things, what we see what we hear what we learn, but these recordings we should use only for a purpose, not in relationships and for that no recording psychologically. If i understand this correctly psychological memory refers to "me" which is "I". But "I" is a product "thought" which is of time and memories. Therefore recording memories for psychological events have no meaning when "I" is an illusion itself.

Memories aren't a problem. They are like clouds floating through a clear sky. There is no "letting" or "not letting" The mind does what it will. Very good speech...but if I am talking with my father, there may be something which he says that I need to remember later on..so I am not sure if it is possible for the brain to not record some happening...usually, if we keep thinking something, we are not aware of other things around us...but we tend to retain some memory all the time...our brain has evolved over a long time...for example, when human beings were in forests, they have to remember the sound of a tiger and its shape and they have to see if the sound or the shape appears somewhere and they have to react to it...if their brains do not record the sound of the tiger moving, then they will not recognize the tiger when it comes next time and the tiger would attack them easily...so I think the recording process of the brain is quite useful...I am not sure if it is possible for the brain not to record in the psychological realm and keep recording other things

He doesn't say you shouldn't remember anything. He clearly states that you need memory to cope with the ordinary things life (how to use a tool, how to go from one place to another, etc.). But there are a lot of things that you remember even if you don't have to. If you think you're smart, and someone says you're stupid, you're likely to remember it. But if you have never even thought about whether you're smart or not and if you have no interest in the whole thing, you don't likely store that in your memory. You remember the special cases, and your past life dictates what you think is relevant (aside from lions and such) and what is not.

Without human interaction it is possible. Even without judging or choosing, If you are that merged and attentive, then you are formless everywhere and nowhere in the social mind. If brain waves are non-local then mirror neurons may record along that aerial of that cognitive sense base, unless you have such a deep attention and can attend to the memory process at a deeper level of composition into emptiness. Some non-dualist's maintain a spacious indifference throughput to avoid recording. Some choose to stick to a sense base such as actual sound and avoid cognition. Some go attentively deep into the brain and stay loose. Some have a filter of abandonment of distaste of inadvertent recording, and appreciation of the wholesome. All good many ways.
