The Atlanta Falcons strive to be one of the top contenders in the NFC this year, but is that timeline correct? Host Aaron Freeman breaks down when he thinks its realistic that the Falcons could be a true contender. He discusses their need to build an explosive offense and a pass rush and how close they are to doing so.
Later, he answers a listener's question on why he doesn't judge players based on where they were drafted. He explains why his evaluations are based on a player's ability to help the Falcons win games, and uses Kaleb McGary and Kyle Pitts as prime examples of why their draft statuses cause people to be lower on them than they should. Finally, he discusses the possibility of middle linebacker Kaden Elliss being moved to outside linebacker this year and why it might be valuable in certain packages but won't be a full-time option.

Completely agree on the draft picks...stats are nice...but wins are king!!

The only problem is if we miss on more draft picks than the league average, then we fall behind the curve. It is preferred to hit on more than other teams, of course. Having talent makes coaching easier, and GMs look like geniuses. We know it is a trap shoot. It is just nice to win that crap shoot. That's all. But, I think we will have a clearer picture 📸 this year on what we truly have on offense.

Could had been quicker but when your first two draft picks are developmental picks slows everything down

Not really, there were only about 8-10 impact rookies that were even picked in the 1st round last year (Stroud, Anderson, Witherspoon, Bijan, Carter, Gibbs, Flowers, Addison). None of the defenders this year were picked before #15, not good at all and says alot about how the NFL viewed them. We couldn’t even come to a consensus of who was the best defender. Better to secure your future than hoping a player becomes better than their ability shows. Much weaker class for defense this year, the rookie sack leaders were Day2 picks. The draft is what you are projecting them to become, not what you did in college.

@@Cjhilly you could also taken Rome at 8 and just because a defender didn’t go until 15 doesn’t mean the same when some people looked at penix, Bo, jj as reaches in round 1

@@MrDrsogood i liked Rome also but he has a very similar profile to Drake tbh. I think we need that route running technician rather than another Drake. Penix also elevated all those receivers at Washington. Check their numbers before he came. We still don’t know if Kirk won’t have any hiccups with the Achilles. Not high on the qb class next year either. Penix is already better than all of them now and a year of learning iis even better than forcing him out there immediately.

It does not matter where you are picked your higher picks need not tp bust 1st rounders need to be starters at least 2nd rounders need to be backups rotational players 3rd rounders need to be baclups and the rest are lucky if special teamers

Not with this regime. The way they have gone about team building is the opposite of how you build a contender. Paying a free agency QB big money doesn’t lead to super bowls. And even if Penix is good they will waste 2 years of his rookie contract which is vital to building a Super Bowl contender as well

Kirk plays the same as Burrow in regular season and playoffs He is elite Active players who know more than you voted Kirk #6 QB in NFL Kirk is ELITE as for Penix he is not on Kirk Level he might be worse or same or better WE HAVE NO IDEA 80% of 1st Round QBs bust
