"I Will Always Love You" may not be the all-time best song, but it is an all-time best cover. First remember hearing the original version of the song on Dolly's TV show in the 1970's. A cover is at it's best when the person covering the song does something totally different. That certainly happened with this song.

Two of the best that immediately come to mind are Dylan's All Along The Watchtower by Hendrix, and Springsteen's Blinded By The Light By Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Both covers received more radio play than the originals. They are in fact staples of Classic Rock Radio.
