I have had issues with a K200, and just been and tested a k300 and B3 (As well as a few others) to find a replacement. My issue with the K200 is the bass strings produce too many high pitch overtones particularly Middle C and the 5 keys descending down, the Bb REALLY has a pervasive ghostly chime which voicing has had no effect on. This of course makes you play around notes and have to work the mute pedal more to kill the undesirable pitches that appear. The K300 based on its reputation and praise I assumed this would be the best piano in its class, however the same issue appeared on this model too, although they were slightly quieter. The sound overall was more reserved than the K200, which is an absolute canon, especially in the bass end. One clear observation I came away with from testing is that the smaller 114/116cm pianos, have a lot more explosive power and really resonate in the bass. So if you are trying to keep the volume transmission between rooms down, I can't recommend them. But they really do have a substantial low end which taller pianos missed. The taller K300 and B3 as well as a few 120cm+ pianos all sound quieter overall, since they couldn't pick up the same low end volume as the K200, BUT... they sound more open and dynamic and playing them has more detail and clarity. There is definitely a more compressed sound in the shorter pianos and the treble in what i played/own seems to be at war volume wise against overtones in the same range. So my impressions - k300 vs B3 The K300 wins in features and aesthetics. The soft close feature, the longer music holder, slightly better feeling action. It just has nice touches like the Kawai logo and message on the inside lid, black felt on the inside and just a tidier overall presentation. Sound wise it seems the Kawai K series pianos are more susceptible to 'longitudinal harmonics' or whatever is causing the bass notes to chime. My K200 has easily 6 strings which do this hence why it needs to be changed, but I would never have taken the k300 since 4 strings on that also had the same issue in the same area, and once you hear it, you want rid of it. Having heard peoples experiences of the K300s sound I expected to be blown away by its sound quality, which I didn't find to be special it just sounded like a better balanced version of the K200 but lacked some of the low end. It is nice, do not take this as a bad thing, but the praise it receives online is maybe somewhat unrealistic, its good but calm down... B3 - I first tried a reconditioned U3, and immediately did not like the sound. Very bright, very thin, no power, just sharp glass like tone. It sounded very filtered and cold. So approaching the B3 knowing it was an affordable alternative to the U series, I expected the 'bright' U1/U3 sound. It also has a pinky/red felt inside the lid which might not look the best when open. However the piano did not sound anything like the U1/U3, it was far warmer and mellow. It sounded very dynamic, decent separation and certainly was nothing like the stereotypical Yamaha sound. It is by no means the best in any category on its own, but overall it had barely any perceivable rattles or chimes which were so distracting on the Kawai's. It still sounds very nice, plays very crisp the only downside would be the downgrades in features Kawai has implemented. Since my goal is stability 1st and sound 2nd, this piano was a clear choice for me. It performed almost perfectly with minimal irritations without any thorough tuning/reg which I'm sure will only improve its sound. My recommendation is definitely learn from my mistake, try a piano before you have it shipped, and only ship the one you have personally tested and like. Pianos are unique and I am sure there is a great k200 and k300 out there that people will love, I just happened to find a B3 that stood out for me and I know ill enjoy it. I paid the difference over the K200 and booked my collection/delivery for the B3.

Many reviewers state that the B1 has a laminated spruce soundboard but why does their website mention B1 having a solid spruce soundboard?

Seems the K300 sounds way better than the b3. Maybe the K300 compares more like to the U1. On the lower models, the difference appears less pronounced in this video.

Love the Snoopy bit. To me it's as if Kawai has purposely engineered their products to have that one worthy and considerable edge over the competition. They do it in digital too and are becoming experts if not already. With near everyone these days wanting a Japanese made upright, it would be used, or a K300. From what I can tell Yamaha U1 even have two places they are made making it very confusing if not misleading for uninformed customers.
