The pokemon series is one of the most popular franchises in the entire world. That is primarily due to the hundreds of different and unique pokemon. However, that appeal is sort of difficult to translate over to the super smash bros series. While pokemon does have a lot of fighters on the roster and they have pokeball summons, that’s not nearly enough to truly cover the franchise. However, the smash series does something interesting with the pokemon stages by using them to represent more pokemon! So in today’s episode of level by level I thought it would be fun to go over every pokemon stage in super smash bros ultimate and put them on a tier list!

I remember when I first entered Wikstrom’s room in Y I thought “Yo this would be an awesome stage in Smash.” And… it is! Still think an Alola stage would be fun, especially if it involves Ultra Space. Ultra Deep Sea would especially be a killer backdrop for Piranha Plant murdering Sephiroth.

I'm just gonna copy-paste what I said in the cut stages video: I have absolutely no idea why people love Pokefloats so much. The most hated stage type in Smash (besides 75m) is autoscrolling stages... which is what Pokefloats is. I like the aesthetic, but the hypocrisy is off the charts, and I personally never played it. I tried it once in training, and never again. F-Tier stage for me. I can understand why Pokemon fans would love it, but not Smash fans.

14:03 I think Poké-Floats is the way it is, is because it originally was supposed to be Sprout Tower from Gen 2, if I’m correct. But they didn’t have enough time to make the stage, so they just reuse a bunch of pre-existing Pokémon Stadium models or whatever, and based the stage around that.

Kalos and Unova Pokemon League are my favorite Pokemon stages. Reasons: The hazards in both stages make fighting on them interesting in a good way, and you can play the Pokemon Red/Blue Medley and N's Castle Remix songs for the respective stages, both of which are AMAZING tracks!

Disappointed we didn't get a stage based on Alola in Smash Ultimate, since Mario and Zelda were the only returning franchises to get new stages (excluding DLC). And the next time Spear Pillar appears, Dialga should be able to take the fighters back in time to the Temple of Sinnoh before it was destroyed, as seen in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Idea for future stages: - Indigo Plateau League (Red and Blue) - Mount Silver (Gold and Silver) - Hoenn Pokémon League (Ruby and Sapphire) - Distortion World (Platinum) - N's Castle (Black and White) (and no, the one from Unova Pokémon League doesn't count) - Alola Pokémon League (Sun and Moon) - Galar Pokémon League (Sword and Shield) - Area Zero (Scarlet and Violet) As a bonus a stage base on Mystery Dungeon

Ultra-Space for Gen 7 or bust. Gen 3 could get Sootopolis instead, and Gen 8 could have a stage inside the max raid dens with Dynamax and Gitantamax Pokémon being huge hazards. (Also Galar doesn't really have a Pokémon League like the others.) Also, i'm all for the PMD stage. Can literally be a mix of Super Mario Maker's randomness and Minecraft World's varied settings.

@@rhinastocroc-boulet5189 Sootopolis would actually look so beautiful as a Smash stage. I'd imagine that Groudon and Kyogre would be fighting in the background and affecting the main stage as the gimmick.

@@MishKoz Groudon uses Precipice Blades, attacking fighters with large stone spires, that causes magma patches to appear on the floot afterwards, damaging and launching on contact. Can even create more land to fight on. I have trouble for Kyogre tho, minus the fact that logically, Origin Pulse should be included, but i dunno what effects could it bring besides flooding the battlefield, restraining the battle ground. And Rayquaza's just here to act as the transition between the normal state of the stage and the ones altered by Groudon and Kyogre by stopping said Pokémon like in Emerald.

Area Zero would be dope. If they’re making a new Smash, it’s likely already been in development or at least in the planning stages so Gen 9 may be the most recent gen for that game.

Prism Tower is my personal favorite, but I can see why people don't like it as much as Kalos Pokemon League. I just love the scenery of it, the dynamic of its changing platforms, and I love playing on it to "Battle! Trainer - Pokemon X / Y".

Even though a lot of their visual design is borrowed from the anime, Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 are references to the Pokemon Stadium games on N64 which were basically 3D Pokemon battle sims that you could transfer your Pokemon from the Gameboy games to in order to see them fight in glorious 3D (also they had really good mingames). The type variations are also inspired from the Indigo League anime where Ash has to battle in different terrain types at the Indigo Plateau

My headcannon reason why pokéfloat didn't come back is that it was used at the beginning of the development history as a test stage but the devs loved it so much it got to the final copies of melee.

3:46 Specifically based on what league battles looked like in the early parts of the Anime. Specifically with the stage transforming. Out of all non-gaming spinoff series based on a video game, the Pokémon Anime is the most used as a bases. Some Pokémon’s personalities like Pikachu are based on their anime portrayals.

If i had to nitpick two things about spear pillar and kalos league. For Spear Pillar Giratina or Arceus should have been the third pick to do something on it instead of Cresselia as both are important to that location. For Kalos League I'd replace one of the dragons (probably either axew or hydreigon) for either goodra/goomy or Noibat/Noivern. As it's the only one out of the 4 typings which does not have a pokemon that represents generation 6.

It's really sad that Incineroar's home stage* is just the Punch Out stage. Like yeah, it's a heel wrestler, so it fights in a ring (though, the stage is specifically called *Boxing* Ring, sooooo), and the Battle Royal also takes place in a ring, but it's so weird to have your home stage be from a completely different series, and there are so many cool places in gen 7. *okay technically according to the smash wiki, it's only Little Mac's home stage - idk if there's an official definition of home stage or if it's just a community consensus thing, but I guess maybe Incineroar doesn't technically have a home stage. It's the stage used to unlock it though.

I think I know what each of the stage transformations of Pokémon Stadium 2 are based on. Granted one of these might be a stretch Electric: Power Plant Flying: Valley Windworks Ground: either Sinnoh Underground or Oreburgh Coal Mine Ice: Most likely route 216 or route 217 near Snowpoint City (yeah that one’s a little weak I know)
