In Japan, the common goldfish is called a hibuna and the reason why is that, in the lakes of the prefectures, there are other underrated species of goldfish that are included, such as Kimbuna, nagabuna, nigorobuna and onagabuna. These fish, though are related to the goldfish closer than the European crucian carp, are a form of Funa. By the way, your comets look a bit common-ish due to accidental crossbreeding with commons in fish farms. In really pure comets, their tail is over one and a half times longer than their body length and their body is less robust than common's body.

Very interesting!!! I knew common goldfish were called that but not why, thankyou for the information! And my comets are definitely not perfect. They are rescue fish surrendered to me. They are definitely fanning out a lot more than my more "average" commons.

@@langenandanimals No problem:) and if you want to copy these Japanese text here they are! 1. キンブナ 2. ナガブナ 3. ニゴロブナ 4. オナガブナ 5. 鉄魚 [Note: Tetsugyo isn't a comet, apparently it's a strange hybrid originate by a longtail ryukin and a Kimbuma. The Tetsugyo is a hybridized subspecies of the genus Carassius so in USA there's not much accurate accurate info. It means in Japanese, Iron fish.] 6. ワキン [Note: unlike America that a wakin is a long bodies fish with double tails, Japan believed to have two variations of wakins: one with a single tail (a common goldfish) and one with a double tail(a wakin)] 7:

Commons are the best, having longer fins then their bodies could hold leads to variety of diseases, people should support natural fishes rather than man made ones who mess with the fish's physiology and destroy the quality of their life

Ohh lord this helped a lot. Got some fair goldfish, and one is a comet and the other is a common. Im going to need a bigger tank. Lol i got a 5 gal. They are pretty small right now but i want to get ahead of the curve and get a larger tank. Thank you SO SOO much!!!!

This was very informative! Thank you! I recently rescued a fish from an abandoned house and he looks to be a juvenile common goldfish. I'm pretty new to keeping fish in general, so after visiting a highly recommended fish store, getting him on a month health plan, I have fallen down the KZfaq fish holes! Thanks, again!

This was helpful I have a 125 gallon tank for my turtle I got a few goldfish to eat the baby guppies so I could for sure catch them all because my turtle decided fish are not worth the hunt but just bought a house and my first project has been building an indoor pond it is about 5000 gallons and I’m getting the water ready now using the dirty medium from my filters
@kearstinnekenerson6676Ай бұрын
And since this my good fish and turtle have been moved to a 4’x2’x3’ stock tank and I just finished up a 325 gallon pond I made for mollies patties and guppies because that’s plenty of space to let them go wild especially with it heavily planted

What size is your tank? I have 7 small common/comet goldfish in a 40 gallon
@destinationaddictionsamsar78945 жыл бұрын
I have 4 common goldfish and I think one is a comet I don't really know it has a smaller body and long tail. I'm getting a 55 gallon soon that's as much as I can afford for them. Any tips?
@langenandanimals5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I like your user name! You will be able to tell soon! They grow so fast, and the tail will flair out more on the comets. I actually like 40 gallon breeders over 55 if you have access to buying either (if not you'll be able to make a 55 work for a long time so don't stress) but the comet and common goldfish can get to be over a foot long and the 55 is only a foot wide. The 40 gallon breeders are more like 18 inchs wide and about 3 feet long. They also hold closer to 45 gallons of water so you're only losing about 10 gallons. Both the 55 and the 40b are 50% off at petco right now, though I need to do the math and figure out if that's a better starter deal than waiting for a 40 or 55 starter kit to come on sale? Feel free to ask me anything about goldfish always! I'm super in love with them (if you couldn't tell) and love talking about them! You also might have already checked her out but Solid Gold Aquatics has some great information.

So the feeder fish in pet stores are comet goldies?
@langenandanimals5 жыл бұрын
Some of them are common and some of them are comets and a lot of them are "imperfect" comets where a little cross breeding has happened between the two. Unless they are a special breed of comet they are often in feeder bins. Thanks for your question! I'm making a FAQs goldfish video soon if you stick around on the channel!
