== Video Information ==
In this video, I explain the difference between recording MIDI information using a keyboard, and recording the actual audio of your keyboard or piano.
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) allows two digital devices to communicate, and send data (information about what note is played and how hard) from one device to the other. A MIDI keyboard can send note information to a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) via a MIDI cable or USB cable and control a virtual instrument.
As well as an explanation, I provide a practical example of the difference between MIDI and audio by recording my keyboard using both an audio recorder and a MIDI instrument.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Certainly did, with your demonstration on using MIDI output from the keyboard to send signals to the software everything was understood. I'll get a MIDI to USB cable with a built-in interface tomorrow, gonna ser how it goes. I see you use an iPad, but what software would you recommend for Windows?

The main practical difference is that MIDI is way easier to edit than audio.

Very true! And the size of project files when using MIDI is another big advantage!!

@@PeteJohnsMusic Very well done video. Makes a lot of sense. But...if you go MIDI route w/ keyboards in GarageBand (I have done it), can you convert/export the MIDI piano file from within GarageBand to a .wav or .mp3 file and upload to YT, Soundcloud, etc?

You’d have to sample every note as multiple velocities. It’s not an easy thing unfortunately. I leave it to the experts.

If my digital piano has AUX OUT [R]/[L/L+R] jacks, should I plug in dual TRS cables into the AUX OUT [R]/[L/L+R], or should I plug the dual TRS cables into the two headphone jacks?

All depends on what outputs your piano has. Some are only unbalanced TS so that’s always the safest.
