@Antonio Sanson one thing that was not addressed are the pre req courses got apply for a DPT Program. They include anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry etc ..that even if you have a Bachelor's depending on the bachelor s degree ( if something that was not science related) you d have to take just to get in. Am I mistaken ? Can you please see with the Lady PT and get back to me?

Thank you for this! Really looking into PTA as a career for myself and knowing the differences and similarities definitely help. I'm almost 28 and not sure if I want to commit eight years to become a PT, because yes it is definitely a long time.

I started my schooling for PT at the age of 28. It's a long haul. Working now as a PT and I felt it was time well spent. But we all are walking different paths. Do what you feel makes the most sense for you and would bring you to your wanted/needed end result.

Antonio Sanson actually I'm a new grad who just passed her boards this pass Tuesday 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 advice sir. I love the home health setting and most do require at least 1 year of experience before working in that setting. I know as a new grad I should work under mentors to hone my skills, do you recommend an outpatient setting or hospital setting for that?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Tokio_Love great! It depends on who is there to mentor you. No matter what setting you work in you will usually have the people who try their best to help the patient and people who do it just to get paid. So try finding someone who is really motivated to do a good job to mentor you!

Ismael Hernandez that’s not a bad idea. Mehgan actually was a pta first before she was a PT. We are going to make videos in the future talking about the steps to transition as well! I had to get my associates degree first because when I became a pta it was required to have an associates degree to be eligible to take the licensure exam.

PTA is never a certificate only career. It is not like massage therapy that you can earn by just getting certificate. It is always an associate’s degree. How did I know? I am both a PTA and an LMT.

Could you work as a PTA for years and then transition into grad school? And if so, does this look good, bad, or indifferent for grad school applications and future jobs?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Erin Elaine yes you can do that! And from what I can tell, no it doesn’t look bad at all. Most of the time people are happy that you are putting forth that extra effort to further your education. I recently worked with someone who was a pta for like 10 years and now that her kids are older she is going back to school for PT

Hi! Do you think that PTAs are able to diagnose the problem as well? Even though they aren't "allowed" to do so?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Suhail Agha the more experience you get working in the field as a pta the better you will probably get at recognizing certain diagnoses, but the PT definitely has the upper hand at recognizing diagnoses.... but the thing that is most important in physical therapy isn’t the diagnosis, it’s the solution to the problem!

Hi Antonio, I’m not sure if this will be replied to showing that this is 2 years old, but I’m currently trying to become a PT, just started by doing my first year of college, planning on furthering, but becoming a PTA for a short term amount of time and eventually falling back into becoming a PT sounds like something that can work, did you have to do college to become a PTA, or just attend a PTA school?

ThaiAthlete Anton_Nation a lot of colleges are transitioning the PTA degree to be a bachelors just like in nursing. What I would do is see if the classes that you take to get your bachelors will count towards classes that you will need to take for the DPT program.

I'm currently applying to nursing programs, but I'm having second thoughts as I believe PTA would be an amazing and more enjoyable career for me. Especially since I am already a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. If I am accepted into a nursing program I will start Fall 2019, however if accepted into a PTA program I will start Spring 2020. I know this is kind of a vague question, but if you have any advice what would it be?

Im studying Physical therapy at the Philippines and studying here is exhausting. 4 years studying and 1 year of internship. After 5 years in college you'll review for board exam. And if we want to work in US or in other country we need to get another license. :( 2 license is needed. :(

I'm a PT leading a high school informational course tomorrow, sharing info on the local community college's PTA program where I teach part-time. THANKS, ANTONIO & MEGHAN, for making this video because I will use it tomorrow! I also work part-time at Michigan Medicine's/University of Michigan Cardiovascular Acute Care team - I can assure you, NaturallyLuvely, that we LOVE our solo PTA on our team who is specially trained for the complexities of our team, including EKG interpretation, following up on our post-LVAD (Left Ventricular Assistive Device), s/p CABG (coronary artery bypass graft), s/p TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement), cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients...she has been very intentional in advancing her knowledge & understanding as a PTA beyond her PTA program. She is phenomenal. I can also assure you that, as a PT, I am also very hands-on & interactive with all of my patients & there are DEFINITELY patients who remain on my list due to the daily assessment required for certain patients & their complexities of multiple medical problems. Sometimes, it's figuring out long term, based upon your age and overall job satisfaction, whether the time & money investment is worth it in the long run (calculate difference in pay over 20 years of work versus debt repayment).

Getting a doctorate to make 80k means pta is better lol you could go be a PA with less schooling and make over six figures.
@zatchsmp3262
@zatchsmp3262 5 жыл бұрын
Andy Ferris You gotta learn to read first and foremost. “PA” (Physician Assistant) is not a “PTA” (physical Therapy Assistant) “PA” is a masters degree not a doctorate and pays over six figures right out of school. However I will answer your question completely unrelated to my comment. PTA could make six figures by doing in home care which can pay 50 per visit or opening a clinic of your own. Mic drop bitch.
