What Is the Jezebel Spirit? Baal, 'Demonic Powers,' and Witchcraft

What is the Jezebel spirit? Some have likely pondered this question in the wake of recent drama surrounding Pastor Mark Driscoll.
Radio host and author Dr. Michael Brown told CBN the Jezebel spirit is tied to a demoniacal figure in the Old Testament named Jezebel. "Jezebel is arguably the most wicked woman in the Bible," Brown, host of Line of Fire Radio, said. "She was a Phoenician princess and an ardent worshiper of [the Canaan and Phoenicia god] Baal."
He continued, "She married King Ahab, and together they helped bring Israel down into deep idolatry. And of course, she had a great battle with the Prophet Elijah." Brown said Jezebel, whose evils are documented in 1 Kings and 2 Kings 9, was "associated with idolatry" and also with "being seductive" and with witchcraft. Thus, when people speak about a "Jezebel spirit," these are the types of issues they're typically referencing.
Many believe Jezebel was the driving force behind much of the wickedness seen in these Scriptures and in Israel at the time. King Ahab is often presented as going along with these evils rather than resisting. "When we refer to Jezebel's spirit, the reason that we come up with the idea is that she's mentioned again in the New Testament," Brown said. He referenced the note seen in Revelation 2 to the Church in Thyatira. Despite having "love and faith," this church faced a harsh rebuke from Jesus.
"I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet," verse 20 reads. "By her teaching, she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols." The text continued in verses 21-23, "I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So, I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds."
It's unclear whether there was another person named Jezebel with these same qualities or whether the name was given because someone had "led people into sexual immorality and worship of idols," Brown said. Regardless, he explained what people mean when they use the term. Watch the video for more.

God hear my prayers. I’m a single mom raising my two children with special needs. I’m overwhelmed at times because they are all I have. I recently started homeschooling my sons because they were having so many issues in school including bullying. So my hours to work are limited. Every month I’m struggling, struggling to pay rent, struggling buying groceries, struggling to do it all. Yet God gives me strength. He will provide I have faith. ❤️ 💕❤️

Stay strong, keep working hard. There are spiritual lessons and labors at work. God loves you and your family, keep your faith strong and avoid sin and embrace good spirits even in dark times. If you are spiritually right you could be homeless and hungry and still glorify God and find spiritual satisfaction. We just have to seek God and only God.

_Not discussing a serious issue in the church under the guise of gossip is very passive. That is what pastors are supposed to do. It was another pastor in the body who permitted the "show". It was not a personal offense to another pastor but an offense to the entire body of Christ. Not addressing it for fear of "gossip".... THIS is one of the very reasons that the bride was called out of the "church" buildings and into homes & virtual meetings to which true shepherds shepherd. Maranatha_

Is it possible he could have just refused to speak and left? Or Why didn’t he go directly to the person responsible first? Then if the pastor repented then the pastor could have done it properly and then case closed. No controversy.

The event was public, the rebuke should be public....there's a congregation of souls that matter in the middle of it all. Jesus flipped tables for what was happening in the temple. Pastor Mark was tame in comparison.

Pastor Mark Driscoll was right in standing up and speaking out. We are not to be entertained. The opening act at the Christian men’s conference was out of line. And Pastor Driscoll should’ve never apologized. Christian men are to be warriors, not apologetic. This was a good interview until the books were promoted at the end. The self book promotion at the end of these Christian interviews has gotten out of hand. Not much different than the selling of merchandise inside the temple courts. Wrong place, wrong time. The only book we need for these times, and all times, is God’s holy and true word in the Holy Bible.

Regardless of the Jezebel spirit debate, Mark Driscoll has been disqualified from service in the church since Mars Hill. Titus 1 5-9 clearly disqualifies him due to past behavior. This doesn’t mean there isn’t forgiveness or reconciliation, but he should absolutely not be in a leadership position.

@thats7733 Because God chooses the least likely and often least humanly qualified, which is a biblical precedent . Why did Jesus choose a bunch of fisherman and blue collar men from a small village instead of the best and brightest Torah scholars in Jerusalem to be his disciples ? . He is a God of restoration and redemption. If God restored and used Peter after Peter’s betrayal. If God used Saul/Paul after the Damascus road then God can certainly use an imperfect man such as Mark Driscoll despite his failures to be perfect
