You need to build a cabin in the woods of Pecan Grove, love it! My Dad built a cabin in the woods, he put antique stove, a stand up wooden ice box, enamel table, white porcelain sink, cast iron wood burning heater. All iron beds, we had the best time with Aunt's and Uncle's and cousins all sleeping in one open room. The best of times. No electricity, no plumbing. Fishing and swimming, we all filled the back of his truck and went off down the dirt road. That was in the 60's

Danny, my husband and I met you and Wanda many years ago at the conference put together by Patara in Tennessee. We brought y'all honey and homemade soap as a gift. I'll never forget how nice y'all were(and are still). Thank you for all you do to help the cause of making this a more sane world. I'm soon to be 68. I'm still going in spite of my age. Danny, we have a lot of wisdom from our years. This world needs to learn what we know. That's one of the biggest reasons I keep going. God bless you, and we love you too.

Raising my kids I always told them to do what I say first, ask questions after. I'm 66 and still living the life. I processed four deer, four goats, six ducks, and eight chickens this year. I grow my food and rarely go to the store. I'll keep it up till I die...hope it's in my garden.😊

Jen here…I am so thankful daddy for the way you raised me! I feel bad for those that didn’t have someone like you growing up. Sooo true about when it’s our time to go it’s our time to go. God already knows when it’s our time and there’s nothing we can do to change it so why stress and worry. I live as much of a stress free life as I can. I prepare, but I don’t stress. I just trust God to lead me where he wants me to go and do what he wants me to do. Love you! Enjoyed this Porch Time.

My husband grew up with no electricity on a 1500 acre ranch in New Mexico. He would tell me that his mama would go to the root cellar where their meat would be hanging, covered with salt, hack off whatever was next on the carcass, resalt the cut. That’s what’s for dinner! No well either, they did rain catchment in a cistern. They hand milked 25 cows twice a day. He had to wake up at 3:00am to feed the wood stove so his mom could cook breakfast for everyone including the farm hands. They raised all their own hay with old time hay bailers pulled by horses! I wish he had written a book for all he knew from the old ways. He passed away a few years ago, bless his soul! ,

Good morning Danny. Older people will always be needed. Myself, I just turned 70 two weeks ago, and I sure don’t feel like it. If you think back, older people were the fountains of useful knowledge and were respected, mostly. All of us elders should take it as a responsibility to impart our hard earned knowledge to family and neighbours that want to know. We can’t be blow-hards that feel our way is the only way, but, assist our communities when they have questions. I do believe there is a right way and a wrong way to gift this knowledge. Let’s just take our time and release nuggets of common sense when needed. Remember the old saying, “You can lead a mule to water, but you can’t make them drink”. One of my favourite visions is that where the grandparents are telling stories with the young children gathered around them. We just need to do this activity in an enjoyable environment. Love you all.

Which is precisely why they want to get rid of us old useless eaters. We lived and know history. I farmed for 45 years. I'm 71 now. I know exactly where Danny is coming from as far as what is coming. You want to scream from the street corner but then 'a panic'd populace' just makes it worse. An old neighbor once told me to start acquiring 'how to do...' books. They'll someday ban or burn books like the 40's. How much knowledge is on a Kindle? Is that the library that people are counting on? They want to 'burn' us old useless eater librarians. Maybe 'jab' us? Nice 'sermon' Danny. Wish I could hear more stuff like this in the 'religion' places.

Seen a picture of a deer in a local town near me yesterday. That means that dear had to swim from a island 5 miles across the pacific onto the mainland and then walk 70 miles through harsh mountains and deep snow. It just blows me away the resilience and the perseverance of gods creature's. Be like the dear, independent, resourceful, resilient, and self aware enough to navigate the struggle in front of us. Don't tell the kids it was better, tell them it will be better if we build it.

Our Father in heaven is so good!! I hear what you are saying about the government spreading fear. My husband and my life has changed so much in the past 5 years for the better. We went from an apartment to a small house to a bigger one and owning land. We went from no garden to a garden and animals. We went from my husband working too hard and dragging him down to a better job for him and being a pastor. I'm not saying this to brag. I'm writting this to testify to the goodness of God. We aren't special people. We have plenty of our own hang ups. 20 years my husband and I were fighting for our marriage. BUT God IS so faithful! He hears our cry. He speaks to our hearts! He gives us direction. He is our Father and He is Good, and He will lead us if we lend our hearts to listen. He showed my husband and I how to hear His voice and He can do it for you also. He LOVES us. He paid for our victory with His only Son. How much more now will He not freely give us all things. He is for us! Cry out to Him! He loves you!

Danny, I was still hunting in '74 in the Big Thicket. I really was enjoying being in the woods and talking with the LORD. I was 17. I saw a big fallen log to sit a bit and I had my rifle on my shoulder and I walked under a big branched tree and when I turned around & sat on the log. I saw a huge black cat with a long tail slink off the high branch I had just walked under. It just disappeared into the woods. I was so thankful that it didn't pounce on me! I told my Uncle about it and he said it was black panther.

They do scare everyone to death, even with expiration dates. There were no expiration dates when we were young. Canned goods, will last indefinitely. Young people will not eat it if it is passed the expiration date! It's crazy! A couple of months ago i ate swansen canned Chicken that "expired" in 2014. 2 days ago, i found a jar of whole tomatoes my mom canned in 2015 (it got lost in the pantry (basement), we ate it in goulash. I'm still here, my DH too, had no issue! Tasted great! They have scared everyone! I'm worried about this younger generation as well.

So true, my daughter will go thru my pantry and tell me I need to discard the expired foods….I told her we have been eating it, you ate it as a kid and you are still healthy. The first time I was really shocked by the ignorance of our youth was the morning of 9/11. I was driving into town and stopped at a convenience store for gas. When I walked in to pay, the young cashier asked if I knew what the Pentagon was! I was wondering if this was a trick question . . . and replied, "You mean the 5-sided building that is our military headquarters?" She said yeah, that must be it, because someone just flew a plane into it. I can still feel the goosebumps wash over me - and STILL feel a sense of dismay over the fact that she didn't even know what the Pentagon was!

Good morning, Danny. You brought back an old memory when you talked about the rattlesnake on the porch. My wife and I raised four daughters and three sons. On our family compound in southern california. The standing orders for rattlesnakes were, always keep an eye on what's going on around your feet when you're in the bush, especially in june and july. If you see or hear a rattler in the bush, leave them alone. If you see them on the porch, you tell me. Each one of my kids, including my girls, knows how to kill. Prepare cook and eat red rattlers and diamondbacks. When my daughters would bring out a boyfriend. They made it a special point if they could find a rattlesnake. To prepare a meal out of it. I loved being a dad then and a great grand dad now.

Speaking of pigs. This year, I raised Serbian mangalitsas. It's a hearty pig well suited for the cold. The meat is dark and nicely marbled. The Lard is like gold in cooking. The pork you buy at the store is too lean to have flavor. Commercial pork is fed God only knows what and the carcasses of other pigs. Mine are 350 lbs each.they are fed corn oats and barley and vegetable scraps from the gardens. We will be butchering next week. I should get about 170 pounds off of each hog. I am processing 4 of them to fill up the freezers of my children and brothers' families. It's not cold enough where we live to process country hams so we'll have to do city hams and bacon. But I prefer that over shoveling snow. God bless you, Danny, and your endeavors to teach this generation.

Many years ago (1967) my Dad bought a 20 acre farm. There was something he renovated in the kitchen and we found corn stalks and shucks inside the wall that whoever built it, used for insulation. It was advertised as a ''stone filled frame' building. The barn was huge, built with huge wooden pegs through holes in the timbers. It sat on a hill and there was an undercroft too. The inside room doors all had lift latch instead of doorknobs. Long porch at the kitchen and out front at the roadside. I miss the old place sometimes.

Good morning! Thank you for your words of wisdom! Even as a Christian, I struggle with so many things! After I pray and read scripture, I am much calmer, but then I allow “things” and “circumstances” to get me upset again about the condition of the world! BUT….I “know” God is in control! I just have to keep reminding myself! May God continue to Bless you and Wanda! 🙏

Knowledge is key and yes, it is our job to teach the younger generations. My kids & grandkids have turned to technology to the point that they know nothing! Praying for them daily to turn back to learning for survival rather than entertainment. I agree with you that this winter reminds me of my childhood winters of extreme cold. God bless you for your thoughts and concerns. As always, they are spot on and filled with discernment. God bless.

Good morning Wanda and Danny. We had about 3-5 inches of rain yesterday in SW Florida- unusual for this time of the year. When you were talking about the hog I was thinking it would be a good time for Billy with Perma Pastures Farm to come for a visit to Pecan Grove and help you with processing the hog.

❤I'm close in age to you and really enjoy listening to and watching your wisdom and faith in action! I'm planning my Spring garden during this cold spell. Been 🎉going through my seeds and about to start some inside in a few weeks. We are working on getting most of our food from growing it ourselves and supplementing with food we get from farmers markets or directly from Farmer's and Ranchers. We get our milk from a Mennonite family. Seeds aren't as expensive as buying that produce and processed foods in the stores. We got some used mineral tubs from a beef rancher to plant in. I got the idea from your Pecan Grove video. I don't know what all the future holds but I know who holds the future and we are in his hands. God bless you and Wanda! Thanks again for sharing your wisdom & faith.

It's 3 degrees this bright shiny morning here in Southwest Arkansas. My husky is lovin' it. Me not as much. My husband said if we wanted it like this we would move to Alaska. I have to agree about it being more snowy and colder when I was a kid.

Hello Danny, first time commenting here, but I have subscribed for many years, now Pecan Grove as well. Always enjoy and do learn from you. Porch Time is always very enlightening…………….as you do, I know much about what might come in 2024, and beyond. I am equipped for many scenarios of survival, but I grow and put up what things I can from my spring/summer/fall garden, but having a greenhouse with heat seems to be beyond my finances at this time, but I do put up alot of foods. Maybe next year, but my food stuffs would get me through at least a year or more……..thank you and God Bless You and Wanda………Proverbs 3:5&6…. Dave from New Jersey

I heard recently that the attention span of a child is now less than a goldfish. Too much screentime and high flicker rates have programmed the brains to be easily distracted. Everyone seems to be "on edge." I agree they are waiting for the next event. I feel your frustration about lots of things.

Prayers for all our children and grandchildren. I hope they remember what I taught them. Old ways are the best. Never too old to learn. I'm 70 and learned a lot from watching you all. My bad neck and low back discs are not going to stop me from gardening. Unfortunately I don't hunt. I do hope to get some chickens soon. Praise God for all the blessings we have.

They’ve trained people not to raise their own food. Been going on for a long long time. We’re a little older than you and we do try to have a nice garden, but it’s not enough. I’ve taught myself to can and bake my own bread these past two years. Been prepping. My husband knows how to hunt but where we live here not allowed. But he could easily do it if we were in a bad situation. I think we’d manage as best we could if it comes to it.😘❤🙏🏻✨

Times like these remind us to go to our older loved ones.. They lived through much tougher times and they have great knowledge about the basics of dealing with most things because their generation wasn't so spoiled as we have been Grand parents and great Grand parents are worth more than gold during tough times due to the knowledge that they have of how to survive and even thrive When the credit cards and the internet aren't axcessible
