What is the Point of Shopping at GameStop?

8 жыл бұрынYesterday, I wanted to pick up Gravity Rush Remastered for PS4. Since it is hard to find in stores, I decided to check out the only GameStop that had the game. As expected they only had the disc and they were charging the same price as a brand new version.
I have to ask, what is the point? All of the other retailers offer far better pricing and even day one discounts. GameStop on the other hand refuses to adapt to a changing market.

Bought a "used" copy of the Sly Cooper Collection on PS3 at Walmart...and I'm pretty sure Walmart just put a "used" sticker on a brand new game. Oh, and this cost me $11.96 (such weird pricing, Walmart). Then I went to Gamestop and they wanted it for $27.99, and didn't have a single copy that wasn't either scratched or covered in food. I asked the manager and he said "Walmart doesn't know what it's worth!" Well, it couldn't have been worth that much, because Walmart had at least 3 copies, so...

I agree with you 100%. GameStop's pricing model is entirely illogical. It has been YEARS since I have purchased a game from them for the reasons you describe. I'd rather order from Amazon and pay for same day shipping just to get a full game with the case, even if it's slightly more expensive. GameStop needs to change their business models drastically or prepare for complete obsolescence. Also, I only buy digital games if they're deeply discounted as well (picked up Grim Fandango Remastered on PSN for $1.50 yesterday!)

GameStop is like a weird hybrid of the big box retailers (e.g. WalMart) and a local indie game store. A great concept but in practice they don't really have the benefits of either. A large inventory of physical copies and hardware peripherals is really all they have going for them.

Granted, I will say that Gamestop is all fine and dandy during the transition between two generations. I walked out of there with more than half of Metal Jesus's "PS3 hidden gems" for like $60...and got the cashier's phone number...

Plus you never have to hassle with the impossible to take off plastic wrapping, cause we take that off for you, too. Walmart and Best Buy don't offer that service...." 5:58 People used to feel the same way with Steam.... Then Steam started their 10-80% off event sales and changed all that. As far as why Sony and M$ don't mark down Digital prices, I think it's due to not wanting to compete with retailers. Valve on the other hand couldn't care less about retailers, they only care about pleasing publishers and game developers that use it's service and who bend to their no in-game pay DLC sales/redirection (which EA refused to comply to and why you can't find ME3 on Steam).

GameStop is a total joke. It was a decent place back in like the mid-2000's when you could get vintage games and things that were somewhat reasonably priced. But now it's like they have half toys there and junk. And not to mention, of course, that their deals are horrible. I haven't bought a game from there in years, so I don't know if they still do that thing where if you buy a new game, they give you the display case and a game from a sleeve hiding in one of their cupboards, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were still doing that.

GameStop is still doing that. Last Month I wanted to get Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection and they tried to con me. They are breaking the Deceptive Trade Practices Law.

this is the very reason i quite going to gamestop myself, haven't shopped there in over 3 years now do to this. i really can't understand this business practice at all, they have the customer take the loss so they can have a display on their shelf's, the fuck do i care about their display needs? the game is straight opened and they sell it as new, like WTF? i'm paying full price for a game that is new i expect it to be new 100% in the cellophane, not opened and out of the case in a shitty paper sleeve that scratches the shit out of the game, plus how do i know if i'm getting all the promotions and DLC that comes with some games too? i don't, and their word isn't worth a shit to boot either. the store seriously needs to start taking the loss for these opened box displays not the customers.

Vernon Delap Best Buy and other Electronic Stores mark down their floor models when they sell them. GameStop should do the same thing.

I bought a used PS3 from them earlier in the year for $160 and they gave me the wrong AC adapter for it LOL The adapter that they gave me was for a PS2 instead. So I sent it back for a refund then turned around and ordered a perfect condition PS3 with everything needed from ebay for just $80 LOL Its the slim 120GB PS3 btw.

I window shop at GameStop. No point in actually buying anything. You can't even go in and walk out without being harassed or waiting in line for hours while some guy in front of you is giving the cashier his personal information.

You are so correct, Gamestop has no value anymore Amazon is a FAR better value. And I personally HATE digital copies of games. Call me old school but I love books and cases and the whole experience of playing a game.

True, and look at all of the games that were released on PS3. You can't play them on a PS4. Yet I can still play games I bought on Steam back in 2007 on my Rig.

***** I was referring to the delisted games mostly. Like Tetris EA for PS3. The game itself got delisted from the PSN store and is no longer available for purchase. The only way one could play it is if you had already purchased it or if you shared a account.

My mom bought me a xbox one from gamestop then she went over to walmart to buy me halo 5 for it i was pissed why cant it all just come from gamestop so i threw halo 5 away and bought halo 5 again at gamestop.

Buy the game at GameStop and Amazon. Once Amazon copy arrives, return GameStop copy for full refund.

I never bought a game from gamestop in about 2-3 years because they would not take my sealed copy of batman arkham city. I buy my games on amazon now since i will not give gamestop my money.

I only buy brand new games at gamestop. I will never pay brand new price for used games.
