For a series with an otherwise a solid plotline, the whole "cleansing fire of Prometheus," seems like the odd misstep. It sounds like it was thought up by someone who's only knowledge of the Prometheus is that he was a god/Titan, and that he had something to do with fire. He pretty much was the opposite of the idea of a "cleansing fire," to wipe away humanity, he was imprisoned and was to be tortured for eternity for helping humanity by GIVING them fire.

Ripley didn't remove the facehugger by herself it took two to three marines to help pry it from her and all it had was its tail around her neck. Also, most hosts don't remember what happened after being facehugged due to chemicals from the creature to reference the first film not to mention it deploying acid to get through a sturdy space helmet. Narratively folks often forget these details when thinking the facehugger isn't that threatening

to my memory from reading the comics back in the day, the Yautja have weaponised xenomorphs (Hard-Meat) for use in hunts to 'Blood' young Yautja hunters. if i remember right a Yautja ship with a queen in a containment cell has it's eggs harvested and deployed by machines and then the hunt leaders fight for the right to choose the best hunting grounds. once the xenomorphs have infected the areas they have been sent to and the Hunt Leaders have picked their hunting grounds, the hunt leaderstake the young hunters down to their chosen area and the goal is for each of the young Hunters to kill a xenomorph and bring the body to the hunt leader, who takes a finger from the body, spits on the bloody end to dilute the acid a bit and a rune is drawn on to the forehead of the young Yautja's mask... and then the same rune is drawn onto the flesh of the young Yautja's forehead using the acid from the finger. Then when the hunt is over the hives that were created from seeding the hunting grounds are wiped out so the planet can recover and be used again in the future. This was from comics back in the mid to late 90s, so not sure if it's still in universe lore.

Xenomorphs shouldn't have a "purpose". They are animals, and part of the cosmic horror genre. Giving them a purpose that humans could comprehend just makes no sense.

Dark Horse Comics have a comic series that lasted nearly 20 years and encompasses a story that spans the deepest reaches of space and spans hundreds of years. Prometheus as a story line has been said by Scott, himself, not to be canonical with the Dark Horse saga, which is canonical of the original 1979 Alien trilogy. It is a masterpiece and really doesn't need retelling. This is a very Disney thing to do, but if any of you want to get it all in its available cheap in massive anthologies. Loads of short stories that paint a very honest image of humanity and the inhumanity of nature and the void of space. But hey, more Xeno media, I'm always a fan.

So Xenomorphs work as a great filter, interesting. I hope it will be explained where exactly Xenomorphs came from.

I sort of like the "cleansing" aspect, but was hoping for one of two origins: 1) Being the ones they explored in Dark Horse and the novels where two warring alien species were tired of killing each other, so they created the xenomorphs as sort of a dog-fighting army, whoevers' team of xenomorphs won, that species would be the winner, but as we know with the xenomorphs, whoever wins, we all lose. 2) A proposed origin was that they (xenomorphs) were an advanced race that were billions, trillions, quadrillion, etc. years old that relied too much on technology to the point they allowed technology to think and feel for them. This would have caused the alien race to resort (be means of devolution) their most basic instincts of kill, mate, feed, repeat.

In no way does it prove that nuclear strikes are useless against xenomorphs. Nuclear fallout might be useless against them, but the initial detonation and shockwave from the blast would almost certainly vaporize them. Aside from the possibility of radiation poisoning (which you failed to mention in this video), the liquid nitrogen spit is no worse than the garden variety acid blood/spit we have seen in typical xenomorphs. Also, your reasoning for the chest bursters running away after 'birthing', in no way contradicts popular theories. It's basically adding nothing to what we already know.

Predators/Yautja feel like they would be the extinguisher that puts out the cleansing fire or keep it under control in this retcon. The Xeno-Morphs keep space ferrying races from growing too large and the Yautja keep the Xeno-Morphs from spreading too far. A perfect balance...if that's the case.

Comics and books have addressed the android "plot hole". Aliens will attack and destroy androids when they're perceived as a threat. Otherwise they're ignored as they cannot be hosts or food. This has been mentioned numerous times. Also this video neglected to leave out the scene in aliens where the queen rips bishop in half. The humanoid alien idea sounds awful 🤦🏻‍♂️

I always thought that the Pretorians were the final form of a completely full grown Xenomorph that has gone through its entire growth cycle. In the films, we never get to see any Pretorians because the Aliens always manage to get killed or destroyed by the humans who fight back. I also wanted to say that I really enjoyed this video and I thought everyone involved did an excellent job exploring the new facets of the Xenomorphs in the new Marvel Comics and the preexisting life action movies. Well it is quite logical that syntetics are orchestrating the demise of human kind especially when one of the syntetics controls Weyland-Yutani megacorporation. In the end if humanity figures out syntetics betrayal and their wishes og humanity demise instead of peaceful coexistence then it means a doom for all AI that was created by humanity.

My issue with this "cleansing fire" stuff is that its only efective if you try to invade their terrotory, they are unable to travel to other planets. Their presence in other planets is probably due to long dead species that experimented on them and they escaped. So all is solved if don't go to any alien infested planet and evacuate on the 1st sign of a xeno.

Someone kinda already said what I wanted to say. Alien and Aliens was as complex as this franchise ever needed to be. The mid 2000's movies and Prometheus were a huge misstep for the 'lore' but nothing disastrous. Then the Prometheus sequel and the comics just... wow. Damn. Why? There didn't need to be an origin for the creatures and making them a sort of sentient and driven femi paradox was just going overboard. Hints that they evolve or adapt based on hosts was all we needed. Showing that they have the potential to destroy advanced species was enough. They're dangerous apex parasitre

Good analysis. But this new canon isn't the first iteration to try and splice Xeno and human DNA. Dark Horse did this in several storylines. The xenomorphs as cleansing fire makes sense and is very Lovecraftian which also hints to the Alien deriving from something older and incomprehensible to human understanding. The AVP comics have amazing storylines which show that the two can exist in the same universe. And for the same reasons you mentioned, it will bring more admiration to the Yautja. Perhaps the Yautja have seen other civilizations like the Engineers (among others) that succumbed to the Promethean temptation and due to this and their culture, they turned away from this temptation. It can also explain why Yautja don't have synthetics.

A trend I dislike that too many writers use is to fall to trying to make things ‘grand’ by assigning some cosmic significance to things. Characters, monsters. It’s far more interesting for the xenomorph to just be an alien. Perhaps engineered, perhaps not. It does what it does because that’s what it is. At best, perhaps used to wipe out/attack worlds that displease the makers. That’s scary to me because of its sheer callousness (and perhaps carelessness) in using such a creature in that way.

The Yautjas kill Xenomorphs for sport and as a rite of passage, but they've also been spreading them to other planets, turning them into game preserves. This was seen in the AVP movies and comics.

As for the synthetics as villains, let us not forget that Alien and Blade Runner are allegedly taking place in the same universe, according to some deliberate hints in the movies. I wonder, whether Avatar and Aliens also take place within the same universe (only different time). Lots of things would make sense.

Tbh the Alpha just looks like a Praetorian to me, albeit one who's probably been fairly genetically altered. Praetorians can exist without a Queen, they molt from Drones when either a) the hive gets to a size that it can support multiple Xenos getting to that size, or b) no Queen is present, so one Drone becomes a Praetorian in preparation to become a Queen.

So far this is the best explained theory on their purpose.

Alien has the same problem Lost had. Once you explain the smoke monster, it's no longer scary and mysterious. Once you explain the space jockey, it's mundane. Especially if the explanation is made by modern hollywood.

I thought they were created to be the perfect prey for the Yautja to hunt. I SWEAR that's what I remember from the early lore. Did they expand on that lore later thinking just being prey was too boring or something? Or am I just totally misremembering it?

The Alpha may be the result of its environment or it is a Proto Queen in the absence of a Queen and any Praetorians. I have never been a big fan of people chalking down a new Xeno variant as genetic tampering since the Xenomorphs are supposed to be structurally perfect and their acid blood prevents any infections.

The Predators and the synthetics may have something in common. The aliens ignore the synthetics and presumably all new life forms until they’re perceived as a threat and that’s kind of how the Predators treat everything. The aliens are usually weaponized but the Predators are self reliant on their own tech and only kill people armed with weapons. I imagine the first meeting between the aliens and Predators was a situation where a facehugger got a predator and the other Predators then perceived the eggs and anything that came out of them as a weapon and immediately went genocidal. Unless it was a more primitive first encounter where the predators actually evolved to counter the aliens as Disney/marvel has used this same theme with the eternals/deviants.

I love the idea that AI are just the legit villain of the franchise. Yea there are aliens and wars with Humans and this evil corporation, but it all just comes down to Skynet...

I had thought Predators were either galactic exterminators, or with the cleansing flame. The firefighters who put out the flames when all is said and done. However, the thought of the predators just hateing Xenomorphs and just seek to purge sounds more plausible. I think chestbursters either escape to an adult for protection or escape to a vent to hide. Depending on the surroundings and environment.

I think you missed something important.... The predators have assimilated the aliens into making themselves better by actively breeding and hunting them. A different process then cross breeding but the aliens are a huge part of their culture

Per Dark Horse comics, I thought xenomorphs we're a Right Of Passage for the Predators. They even showed them with a Alien Queen in shackles in a spaceship hatching eggs that were then put in space pods to be ejecting down to planet's for them to hunt.

My (non-canon) guess: They are a sort of genetic 'hash-code'. Hash-codes, numerical functions applied to blocks of data, offer a quick way to see if a large file has been received correctly. By comparing the hash-code of what was sent to what was received, one can easily test for corrupted data. The black goo checked the hash-code of our DNA and found it compromised. On detecting corrupted data, the black-goo weaponizes the host. The hostile xenomorph is an anti-body of sorts, tailor made for the purpose of correcting a genetic error. I think the Engineers have been seeding worlds for a very long time, and every one of them has gone 'sour' so far.
