People move to the Sunshine State thinking "it's" gonna be different. The place is over advertised. That's why there is so much traffic. If you ever find a place that's idyllic DON'T TELL ANYONE.

It's a human zoo. There's a cop on every corner because there needs to be. It's too hot, Floridians lock themselves up like a Northerner does in the Winter. There's no money to be made unless your a Dr or lawyer. It's expensive to live. Was a great place until the early 80's.

ABSOLUTELY HONEST . The best video I've seen about Florida . I moved here 30 years ago . Yes, as a RN, I took a pay cut . The Heat & Humidity takes some getting used to . Tarpon Springs is a great area, but like most of Florida . It's got 2 many too's . TOO many people . TOO crowded . TOO much congestion . Insurance is TOO high . TOO much crime . BUTT I'd never go back to Wisconsin .. Great video fellows .

Great video guys!!! I have lived in Las Vegas for over 12 years now. People move to Vegas from California think that Vegas is CHEAPER!!! Vegas is not cheap!!! Californians have jacked the cost of living up due to the pandemic. Car insurance is outrageous, registrations is absurd and electric bills are off the hook!!! HOW much money are they really saving?!? Kudos to you both!!! PEOPLE need to do their FRICKEN research whether they are moving to Texas, Vegas, Phoenix...etc!!

After 25 years. I think I'm gonna call it quits in FL. It's just way too overcrowded now. Very few spots left in the state that still has the old Florida way and open spaces. Rent is sky high, the traffic is horrible with so many drivers that shouldn't have a license. I stopped motorcycle riding because it was too scary. Even boat traffic sucks. No way I'm raising kids in this state. They'll just play video games all the time and turn into night owls and the schools aren't all that great. Many people moved from the northeast and brought too many politics with them. Neighborhoods are nothing but large 5 mile hoa's. You used to be able to live down here for cheap in the 90s- till up to about 2010 and enjoy the lifestyle. Now it's a complete drag with no privacy.

I've lived here since 1976, and a lot of things have changed. The weather for one. I never remember it being as hot as it is now. Being outside riding bikes, walking, golfing was not a problem. We had a short rain around 4:00 every afternoon, like clockwork. Florida grew in population fast, and the infrastructure was there to support it. I would say the last 10-15 years has taken away the slower pace of life with hothead drivers, housing shortages and crowds and in my opinion, a lot of rude people. Increase of insurance costs is the most egregious change, that affects everyone who drives and owns a home. So I say let them leave, and take some with you on your way out.

I personally know at least 12 people who moved to FL and left within 2 years of moving there; half of those within 1 year. Even years ago there was A LOT of pitfalls when it came to moving to FL and it wasn't just housing cost, it's a plethora of reasons that gets people really sour to the state real fast.

I just got my notice from my insurance broker that Citizens now requires that I buy Flood insurance for a 65 year old house in the keys that is X zoned and has never once flooded since it was built in 58 and has been through at least 6 hurricanes including Irma that hit 10 days after I took title… Minimal damage. Citizens charges me $6K for wind storm damage with a $27K deductible. My non wind package was $2K and now I’ll have to pay$4+K for flood insurance. I think I’ll just take the chance and self insure as I own free and clear.

I moved from NJ to FL in the late 80s for my job. I lived there for 30 years. Lived in North Miami Beach when Andrew went through south Dade County. When it comes to hurricanes, the worst thing outside the immediate coastal area damage is the loss of power that almost always comes...Now, imagine it being as hot and humid as it gets...daytime highs in the 90s with humidity 70 and 80%...and you live in what amounts to a box. There is no breeze to speak of and you don't have the power to even run a fan...the inside of your house is over 100 degrees and it becomes one great big sweat box. The nighttime lows stay at almost 80. Try going to sleep in that. Day after day waiting for the power to come on and living in a 24 hour sauna bath for 2, 3, 4 days or more. The word miserable doesn't even begin to describe it.

What about all the insurance companies mostly left FL and a new law was passed that everyone has to purchase flood insurance no matter where you live. Another youtube video said the persons $4,000 house insurance went to $12,000. Then you need flood, sinkhole, hurricane, etc insurance along with homeowners. These guys are not giving facts and in denial about the real problems.

To live in Fl you must be a summer person. Been here 9 yr on the Gulf, from Michigan. My car insurance for the yr was 1,100. My house ins, renewed end if Oct w/Progressive-2,400. I do not have to carry flood, am not in a flood zone, but I carry that (it’s sold through FEMA) $600 for the year. Smack dab in the middle of the last hurricaine Ian-cat 4, winds 145-150 😱. I had a cpl missing screen on lanai and one bent post. My house was unscathed. (i accredit that to God, saving my house). Though electric has increased this month. I still have not received an electric bill comparable to my winter electric bills in MI, not even close. I looked at the taxes on my house I sold in Mi and they are now 3,400. Alot of insurance roof scams have gone on down here, previous to the hurricaine. Seems no matter WHERE you go. There is some problem. I just saw a vid of houses falling off cliffs from mudslides in Utah. Cali is prone to earthquakes, drought, mudslides, forest fires. Tornados throughout hurricaine alley. Even Tennesse and Kentucky. Even though I lived in Mich all my life. They have the absolute worse roads in the US, I believe. And a long drawn out gloomy winter. And wait to see “IF” you are going to have a decent 3 month summer. At this point in time. Housing is high everywhere. And the housing mkt. is a mess, uncertain. It all needs to crash. I wouldn’t be moving anywhere at this moment. The inflex of people moving down had caused houses to sky rocket, w/unreal bidding wars for people with FOMO. The last yr. The housing needs to crash everywhere. I think it will. And all those people are going to be underwater with their mtge. or lose alot of value if they paid cash. Going to be like 2006. Anyhow. I don’t miss snow, and I sure don’t miss Michigan. AT ALL. But everyone has their own thing.

To the man on the left who at 4:00 minute vid marker minimized the Hurricane threat in Florida. You sound like a typical real estate agent - minimizing things that negatively impact YOUR business. You KNOW hurricane wise it's a crap shoot here and that Tarpon Springs could just as easily have been hit with the devastation Fort Myers was hit with, but was 'spared'. THIS TIME. Don't kid yourself buddy, and don't sugar coat the hurricane issue. It is real, and it's getting worse here.

Bill wasn’t trying to downplay hurricanes at all. He grew up in Florida, his whole life and was a fireman for many years dealing with the aftermath of hurricanes. We have been lucky in Pasco and Pinellas County when it comes to hurricanes. His point was even though south of us was devastated and was a horrible situation. The damage just a few hours north was minimal. Sorry if we did not make that clear or sounded like hurricanes are not a serious issue.

Born and raised up in CT. Moved to FL back in 2013. Sure my homeowners insurance is higher here, about 2k/yr. However my taxes here are only $1,600 where as in CT, on basically the same sq footage, I was paying $5,900! Plus that was 9 years ago. No idea what it is now, but I’m figuring they’re at least 7k. Then throw in the state income tax up in CT and FL is way cheaper. As far as the weather, for me, summer is similar to winter up North - I spend more time indoors. However, starting your car when it’s 90 degrees compared to 10 degrees is much nicer. I’ll never move back North.

Yeah, property taxes are pretty low. But homeowner's insurance was in freefall BEFORE those two hurricanes hit last year --- now it's sheer chaos. An half the driver's here are uninsured. Car insurance is high. As a "business-friendly" state, that means it's a "consumer-hostile" state. Every kind of crooked contractor, shady real estate scam artist, repairmen services that "just happen to be in the neighborhood with leftover materials" blah blah blah is here. Former governor (now Senator) Rick Scott was literally a thief whose company paid the largest Medicare Fraud fine EVER -- $1B+. Current governor just got sued for harassing the state's largest employer -- Disney. Finally -- Trump lives here. Enough said.

I would also contact American Citizens Services in that area and talk to a lot of people, not just those wanting you to move there. It does work for some people but be we have to be well aware of the situation. I have lived outside of the US 20+ years and established residency in another country with healthcare but I still maintain US residency and am not sure we will retire there but that is due to aging parent care. I also do not share your same views of the US, many US cities are livable and can be budget friendly. There are YTers who share this.

You mentioned homeowners and car insurance + weather as the key constraining factors. How about real estate taxes? Who decides what the real estate values are and do they fluctuate a lot?
@exploringwithjimmyb
@exploringwithjimmyb Жыл бұрын
Florida’s real estate property tax is based on value at time of purchase. I believe it’s about a dollar in taxes for every 1000 in value. The big problem we have here is Insurance because you don’t know even if you will get insurance the following year or the price that’s how crazy it is. I have seen property taxes go up, but I also seen them go down. But in general you have an idea of how much your taxes are going to but not how much your insurance is going to be. And if you have a mortgage you have to have insurance. Thank you for commenting.

You forgot to mention the gators! We have gators in Florida that know how to pick locks and can greet you in your kitchen and eat you when you least expect it. Not only that, really watch your toilet at night -- we have a python problem here and they are known to sneak through your pipes and escape through your toilet bowl and surprise you when you are sitting. And guys, what about the turkey vultures? Make sure to mention that! Florida is a wildlife paradise and not in a good way. Sharks anyone?

Maybe it has a little something to do with it, impact fees of 20 grand or more just to purchase property In a certain county. Squeegee fees an undefined charge of the Tax Collector's office that not even the Tax Collector's of the Counties cannot define. Maybe the impact fee of 250 dollars just to drive your vehicle in from out of state. PA is 50 dollars out of state title. NY, 50 dollars for titlement. Florida 250 impact fee, a 100 impact fee to apply for a licence plate. Another 80 dollars to transfer title. You're looking at almost 500 dollars to make your vehicle legal in FL Any other state it's a total of 80 dollars to make a vehicle legal. In Florida it's 500. Then the Homeowners. People leave the North to get rid of all the Taxation. They get to FL and find the Bureaucrats turned FL government into up north taxation and just so they can say, "We don't like the color of your house, or you can't have that fence. NAZIS.

A certain type of people have bred massively on Welfare and Food Stamps in the Greater Orlando area, they drive like morons, changing lanes constantly as if they are in some big race that nobody else sees. This is why auto insurance rates here are sky high, they either have no insurance or minimal legal amount. They also cause a lot of accidents by their reckless driving that they are not in the crash, but they scared grandma and made her swerve and hit another car.

Jobs is not the problem. Just be honest guys. Right now Home /flood/car insurance are all outrageous. Most areas property taxes are through the roof. Also they may have high heating bills in the winter up north but we have high a/c and electric yr round and right now that is out of control too. If they are going to rent an apt expect to pay $1500 a month min for a 1 bd which is hundreds more than just a few yrs ago. It used to be our no state income tax attracted people but all our insurance costs outweigh that. At least taxes pay for things we use everyday. Insurance you pay thousands of dollars for decades and may never even have a claim but we are forced to have it. Do you think those homes demolished from all the tornadoes in the Midwest have insurance... Heck no. We are paying for them too.

Even when we were snowbirds we accepted the fact water bugs and roaches are everywhere it’s just the climate they like no big deal but bugs snakes and lizards are a huge issue if you don’t like them not to mention fire ants everywhere 😂 as far as cost of living unless my house in FL starts costing as much as NYC I don’t care, you guys should try $50,000 a year property tax and .25 kWh electricity (highest in the country by a mile) then we will talk about expensive living. The real problem is instead of working you’d rather be fishing that’s why the workforce in Florida loves people willing to work 40+ a week everyone is just lazy down here other than the landscapers .
