WHAT is the Richat Structure - The Eye of the Sahara - Guelb er Richât and HOW was it formed? // The Richat Structure (The Eye of the Sahara) is a deeply eroded geologic dome in the Sahara Desert in Mauritania, Africa. The Eye of the Sahara is a large circular geological formation whose birth started over 100 million years ago with the splitting of Pangaea. The supercontinent of Pangea started splitting about 200 million years ago because of plate tectonics. As the landmasses that eventually became today’s continents started separating, the lithosphere in the area of the Richat Structure started weakening. Because of that, the magma beneath it started pushing the crust upwards, forming a geologic dome made of igneous and sedimentary rocks. The erosion of this dome, a process that span 100 million years, led to the formation of the cliffs (less eroded areas made of harder, igneous rocks) and valleys (more severely eroded areas made of softer, sedimentary rocks) we can see today in the Richat Structure. The Eye of the Sahara is a fascinating geological wonder of our planet, not just in its sight, but also in its history.

I’d like to know more about Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, USA. The glib “it’s an old volcano “ don’t hold up. The rock there is actually a large phenocryst porphyry, which suggests deep intrusion and cooling, not near surface or extrusive cooling. Also, there are other outcrops of the same rock within twenty miles or so of DT, suggesting all of these structures were fed by a deep magma chamber. But given the exotic composition of the rocks and their odd, columnar cooling profile, there is something unique about the origin of the magma.

Hi Joni, thanks for the suggestion on a video about fake art spotting techniques. I already have a video on this topic, discussing the various scientific methods we can use in detecting art forgeries. In case you haven’t seen it, here’s the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9B4aqt0ranIqWw.html . I don’t think I’ll be coming back to the topic in the near future, but if you’re more interested in using radiocarbon dating for detecting art forgeries, here’s an interesting article where they used radiocarbon dating on an alleged painting by Fernand Léger, and they proved it was a fake (link.springer.com/article/10.1140/epjp/i2014-14006-6). In case you don’t have access to that article, here’s an open access article that talks about identifying art forgeries by radiocarbon dating: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6613090/

Maria you mentioned pangea, i have a question, do you think as the plates are now would rasing or lowering the water change the shape of the continents at all? @Bimmer_MD
@Bimmer_MD Жыл бұрын
So just curious, I have a question, & I apologize in advance this kind of long winded. According to you, the Richat is the eroded remnants of a dome of igneous rock (kimberlite, rhyolite, carbonatite, black basalt) and sandstone. 1st sandstone is a sedimentary so it would not have anything to do with the original geological formation, but it would have settled into any voids in the igneous formation as time passed. Next, in the video that you referenced, it explains that diamonds are typically produced among kimberlite formation. Given that the the mineral surrounding the diamonds would be going through a very similar geological process I would believe that the surrounding elements would develop somewhat similar characteristics. Resulting in a tough durable mineral that would at least be comparable to diamond. Last, 3 out of the 4 minerals that you say that are found are kimberlite, basalt, and rhyolite. All of which are extremely similar to granite. Granite very resistant to wind and rain erosion. Look at Half-dome in California. It is an igneous formation that's estimated to be around 83 million years old and shows very little signs of erosion in comparison to that of the Richat. Another geological example that brings doubt to your hypothesis is Uluru in Australia. Uluru is estimated to be 1/2 a billion years old. The big difference is that Uluru is sandstone which is highly susceptible to rain & wind erosion. Yet, it is also nowhere near the state of erosion of the Richat. So my question is, if the Richat is compromised of these very durable minerals, how is it that the have degraded so far beyond any other comparable geological formations?

Well explained. Now I must check when the large meteorite hit the earth which destroyed the Dinosaurs on earth. Because that impact area is now located in central America. Was the impact area origininaly located on the single land mass of the one continent and since shifting to the place where we see it now?
@MariaBaiasHeritage
@MariaBaiasHeritage Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That’s a very good question. The dinosaurs were wiped out sixty-six million years ago. By that time, Pangaea had already started breaking apart, and the continents were closer to their current positions, rather than the original landmass. Here’s an animation of how Pangaea broke over time (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbF8m69ev7G3pmw.html) and you can see where the contents were at the time of the meteorite impact. But, the continents were still drifting at the disappearance of the dinosaurs, so there was still an increased activity of tectonic plates and lots of volcanic activity, all of these factors influencing the climate. So the dinosaurs lived (and died) during pretty harsh times of the planet. Here’s an article that provides more details about this topic: www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/how-an-asteroid-caused-extinction-of-dinosaurs.html

I'm not fond of pseudo-science theory about this, but those tectonic plates building a nearly perfect circle doesn't seem too realistic in my opinion either. Every mountain was created because of tectonic plates right ? How come none are that circular ? By the way, if it was a dome, why is it below the ground around it ? I'd rather think of a volcano, but then that geological formation would be higher. So then maybe a meteorite ? Tectonic plates building a dome makes no sense at all to me. Please would someone care to explain in details how ?

If we quote a 'Theory' we are not quoting 'established fact'. You did not mention 'Electrical Discharge' and 'Plasma' as a causal factor, or establish why you chose the date for the formation. If you study the Satellite Photographs you can clearly see that there is a large East to West pattern which follows the low lying land from Mediterranean to the Atlantic. This would appear to be hard evidence of a catastrophe that reduced the historically fabled green paradise of the Sahara to the Desert we see today, Which of course would suggest a much more recent date, possibly only 5-7000 years ago.

What if during the formation of earth it was originally a water planet then as the moon was formed in the giant impact theory the amazing amount of heat generated on the surface of the planet caused expansion. We all know that heat expands and cold contracts. Then what was once below the surface of the waters expanded to become The continents. I think this would better explain the eye of the Sahara. ☄️🌖🌍

There is no way all the land could be on one side and the water on the other. If that was the case the water would simply cover all the land.

@@timothyappleseed2986 maybe this translated wrong for you. I said I did not agree with the land mass only on one side of the earth. But that the earth itself was entirely covered in water and the single land mass was below the surface. With the occurrence of the giant impact theory When the moon formed during a collision between the Earth and another small planet about the size of mars. You and I know that heat expands and cold contracts. As the heat from this collision occurred the Structure of the Earth expanded out from the waters. Of course this is just a theory as everything is only an idea not a proven fact.

@Sonya Lindee thanks for the reply. Of course we are all working out theories based on how we understand the laws of nature. I don't see the moon separating from the earth either though. The texture of the earth is 1/1000 of the diameter of the earth including the sea floors. That's like laying a human hair on a cue ball. The moon is much smoother. If the moon had separated from the earth due to some impact, neither would be as smooth or even as round as they are.

The shorelines were actually formed with giant bulldozers. If you want to know more about that hit me up on Facebook. Maybe a can do a video about it together.

this is one of the examples that I believe the scientific speculation is completely wrong... we live in a day where we are finding out human civilization (presumably) have been around far longer that we assumed, science community is so close minded they develop these.. unlikely contrivances to explain things they can't... its a giant assumption. Stamped with believe us, because you have to, don't think about it, we will for you.

I appreciate you validating the structure as Natural. It would seem way easier to create Atlantis if Mother Nature had it laid out already.

Not a natural formation as not recreated anywhere on Earth or elsewhere. Something sentient created this which excites the imagination.

Didn't Plato describe this as the city of Atlantis? Three circles of land and two of water, with a opening to the sea of the south and with mountains to the north called Atlas?

You need to read about Atlantis. This is the proven location of an ancient advanced civilization circa 11,000 BCE that was flooded after rapid melting of the polar ice caps caused massive sea level rise and was due to a giant asteroid that hit Greenland. Fascinating stuff

That’s what I am telling these people that desert it was water, but not very high water. The rocks come from the sky round full of heat, and make that circle we are human we supposed to know more than anyone without going to school or graduate or whatever we already live in inside the place we have everything around us working telephone iPhone, laptop, desktop cars, TV, electric we are slender inside this technology we supposed to be smart ass, not stupid ass. Sorry to say that.

"A super mega long long long time ago, we guess probably something like this happened" is not truely scientific, so I think it's a bit misplaced to use language as if it's fact. Also, or better yet, especially scientists should be very careful what language they use, because often science teachers speak as if things that are highly speculative are science fact. That being sad, thanks for making this video and giving a nice video explaining this hypothesis.
