you must removed the carbon are of the pcb other wise this area works as a resester , possibility of leakage current.

Is it usual for htat component to be the only one damaged ?. If it has been wisely calculated, it will protect the circuit, but may the cause of the failure be a short downstream the thermistor? Thank you very much , Tevz. You are a machine on fixing boards.

No, the thermistor is get damage, no others causing it to get failed.
