WOW ! What a video ! You weren't kidding when you said it had a super montage.... The only thing missing would be the A-Team music whilst you worked Then you busting outta your shed shooting (freshly cleaned floppy disks) Amazing video Rob, can't wait to see the next installment

Haha that’s a funny idea, although I’d need a welding torch too, BA always seemed to have one!

@@RobSmithDev or.......how about this - 1. For the final design mock it up to look like the A-Team GMC van 2. When the cleaning cycle is happening, play the A-Team music (Different versions Inc chip tunes and tracker mods too) 3. Attach a small LCD monitor that plays various montages of BA and the A-Team making things. 4. Pitty the fools with dirty floppy disks

Hmmmmm. I might do some of this…. But then again, the MacGyver theme might also be relevant

Fab looking contraption :-) I'm interested in how you will control the amount of IPA flowing onto the cleaning heads. Too much could cause the glue holding the disk to the center to release, so I await your next video :-)
@RobSmithDevАй бұрын
lol yeah you’ll see, although at the event today it ran non stop with me shortening each cycle so the disk never got dry! Was dripping and still holding. I think the glue they use would take a while longer. If in reality you do clean disks with IPA you have to realise that the next job is backup and then throw it in the bin
@JBEEUDАй бұрын
For the IPA feed, you might want to put some sort of restricter nozzle in the end of the two feed lines. If you leave them open like they are, unless you pump the IPA at a fairly decent rate you're going to end up with very uneven flow. In fact, if your flow rate is low enough, you may end up with almost no flow coming from one of the lines. Something as simple as a plug in each line with a pinhole for the IPA to come through would be enough. A hole small enough that the IPA won't readily drip through on it's own. That way it builds just enough back pressure to guarantee that there is pressure at both nozzles to push IPA through both lines. Also if you make the holes small enough, you could get a very targeted spray line to put IPA exactly where you want it, or you flare the tip of the hole a little to effectively make a mister. That would actually work great with a solenoid driven pump. Just a single piston with a check valve in and out, that way you could very precisely control the amount of IPA being added at one time. Just pulse the solenoid to add a ml or three at a time based on the volume of the piston. In fact, you could probably 3D print that whole assembly and use an o-ring for the seal..... Just a thought. 😉
@RobSmithDevАй бұрын
It indeed does have plugs with pinholes in them! Was successfully running all day at Kickstart, lots of fun! There was a pump inside already and a solenoid valve to prevent air getting into the tank while not in use. Lots to show in the next video

Rob amazing... I have a huge 120ltr tub of floppies that I would love to clean... I found that squirting IPA on the entire disk surface and cleaning while spinning in an old opened PC drive (adapted) with cotton bud with slight pressure... Works well, but far too labour intensive!!!! I then use a greaseweaze to test the disks on a new external PC floppy drive via FloppyBridge WinUAE... This crazy contraption is awesome... Looks like it comes from an advanced Lego set!!! What happens if we want one tho Rob... LOL... EDIT: Rob it would be so amazing to have some reliable and robust Amiga disk checking tools via DiskFlashback.. Working first class, unreal software...
@RobSmithDevАй бұрын
I did originally think of using Lego, but it’s *so* expensive now! Even if this turns out not to work the dryer section should! I’ll have a think about disk checking/repairing for DiskFlashback

Those are brass inserts - they have an internal screw thread - you basically heat them up and melt them into place
