I like the fact that you can angle it so you can trammel a splay or mould. Class. I usually just used scabbler and a straight edge.

Dang been working stone for 30 years. Not as a stonemason but as a carver but things like these come up regularly. I've been using boards with a screw in it but this works a 100 times better. Why didn't anyone ever show me this before? Should have come up with something similar by now if I'd thought it through😂 Anyway, I think Ill be making one myself soon. This guide to making a stone masons box trammel was great, particularly with your adaptation to its standard design, enabling lines to be scribed on chamfers etc!! As you stressed, this simple tool is an ESSENTIAL piece of masonry kit - it has so many applications, all designed to transfer and mark consistent measurements and depths on a variety of surfaces, especially curved ones. Incidentally, your modified design has elements of a ‘double sinking square’ - see pages 9, 262 in Modern Practical Masonry by Warland. There ( page 262) one can see its application in working a pediment springer from the top surface to mark out ‘inaccessible’ fillet depths. Wonderful to see your workshop too Tom. I'm into woodworking, and I liked this. Small request ... maybe keep music volume the same (or a little lower) than speaking volume. I had to quickly turn down my volume during the songs, only to bring it back up so I could hear you again.
