A bit confusing, but understandable also. Transpersonal psychology is a study that examines dynamics between people and between the person with his own self on a spiritual level. Beyond reasoning based on logic and ego, there is reasoning based on spiritual lessons that each person has to learn in their lifetime.

How would you explain such a thing to a person who didn't understand what you meant by spiritual?

THANK YOU! I've been researching this topic and most of the people I've heard talk about it have had such an elaborate and hard to understand definition of it. this is a short explanation that actually makes fucking sense, without having to spend 2 hours saying it

You know...I have come to embrace the ambiguity of the definition of Transpersonal Psychology. Seems fitting when we consider the fact that we are concerned with they nature of the psyche, which is an infinite mystery. -a fellow ITP student

Usually that happena with spirituality. Sounds vague, redundant... because of non-linear, emotional informarion trying to find a place in logical, linear concepts.

I am interested in what you say here. I am unclear about the idea of transpersonal therapy but mentioning the experience whilst on weed, are you talking about the letting go of any ego and just being and sharing that with another?

@@jennysimmonds6540 all psychedelics induce a state of temporary “psychosis”. For a second I want you to ignore the negative connotation that word has, and try to follow along with me. Substances like psilocybin, LSD, and DMT have visuals, make you hallucinate, and induce a temporary psychosis, allowing you to see the world from a schizophrenics POV. There a numerous articles written about how schizophrenia can actually be seen as a positive trait and how its maybe been schizophrenics, or perhaps that thing in us that allows us to experience psychosis, for things like the invention of fire, domestication of animals, creation of religion, and the overall unification of mankind, I.e. what makes humans different than other animals. Weed, is only classified as a mild psychedelic because of its numbing properties. In your mind you can kind of choose what part of the trip you want to feel more, the physical or the mental. Diving into the mental side of weed is a whole different experience that I haven’t heard many people talk about. It brings our your inner schizophrenic and let’s you see the world in such a fun and different way.

@@samhangster I feel connected with this idea, although I often get lost in it and lose its meaning - I know I haven't explained that well. I guess what I am trying to convey is that I have experienced liberation whilst smoking weed. I am trying to understand this. I have explained it as follows and would appreciate your input for my essay The Transpersonal Relationship is the most difficult to define but I feel the best way to encapsulate it would be to call it a connection between two people that transcends the ego - letting go of egocentric questions and instead, capturing the essence of existence that all of us experience.

@@samhangster So much nonsense said in one text. Psychedelics have nothing to do with schizophrenic experiences. Schizophrenia takes you out of reality what psychedelics for a person with good mental health will not do. Psychedelics are for the study of the mind as the microscopic is for biology and the telescope is for astronomy.

Transpersonal psychology is merely another treatment model that's used in integrative approach to therapy. There are many different tx models ,such as Gestalt which is easily incorporated into the Transpersonal theory and as a practice also includes Jungian approach. All of these have complementary aspects in that the focus isn't solely on the material or ego but gaining a deeper understanding of the person's spiritual aspects of personality or higher consciousness or state of being,..and delves deeper into that by incorporating practices such as meditation for example.. In this sense, Trans is defined as transcending the ego, and fully developing the spiritual aspect of personality, or consciousness, which some refer to as the soul,..which is one reason Eastern Philosophy , like Buddhist principles, or mindfulness, etc .. works well with this TX model.. Basically it's just another tool in the toolbox for a competent therapist thats educated in a multidimensional, integrative approach to treatment. If a therapist is working with a client that's not going to be responsive to transpersonal approach, or rejects that concept , then they use another more compatible TX model to effect positive results. I favor using CBT/DBT because its results driven and has measurable outcomes, and that's the kind of counseling I would want to practice,.. some people want tangible results without a long drawn out therapy process, for that as an end goal ,CBT/DBT (cognitive behavioral therapy/dialectical behavioral therapy ) is what's commonly used in structured programs for example,..however, if a client will also respond to spiritual teachings, as in some originating from their culture of origin, and wants a longer exploration of their issues, then I would draw those traditions and incorporate that into the therapy model. Many counselors in training, are required to study an integrative ,multidimensional approach. One size doesn't fit all. Clients have to be matched with the right counselor and method they will be most responsive to,. , ..It's like finding the right shoe size,.. , Some Therapists specialize in one specific type of therapy theory, as with transpersonal, since its more involved and there's no time limits, and typically this kind of therapy approach is more used in private practice ,with therapists that specialize and is favored by specific demographic,ie. private clients that don't have to meet structured program standards,.. does not mean one is better than the other, another example is programs serving a native American Indigenous population, counselors may employ cultural spiritual practices of shamanism, vision quest, dreamwork, and ritual, because in that cultural context, people may be more responsive .. , for a counselor in training the multidimensional approach is common, since they will be working with a varied population,.and have to practice with cultural competency, and billing requires time classification in structured programs for example,..an hour session or 30 minute encounter session can't go over program billing requirements, counselors are only allowed specific billable time segments.. Also Logotherapy ,which was originated by neuroscientist, Viktor Frankl, has some aspects that can be incorporated into the transpersonal model. Viktor Frankl, also author of "Mans Search For Meaning" survived the death camps in Germany during hitler's nazi regime, and formulated LOGOTherapy during that time..certainly his concepts had some transpersonal aspects,..

Body is the manifestation of our minds. The spine sends information to our brain from our physical perceptions. Our brain either reacts or send orders to our organs or to voluntary muscles through our spine. Our spine connects the mind and the body. Both might be coordinated or not. This connection is practically our interal energy, from electrical to kinetical. The control and work of this energy creates the soul or the spirit or the ki/qi/chi, although it exist independantly of our counscious intervention, as a duality. This duality is the vesica piscis, the ying and yang, ans it can be felt in our abdomen through inhalation and exhalation. Multifidus connects to the earth through our legs, erector spinae to the heavens through our skull, and both coordinate below the navel, with the tva. That's one way to work internal energy or our apirit. Breathing also follows this pattern: upwards and downwards. Spiritual practices, esoteric martial arts, ancestral practices like yoga and some religions work towards exhalting this mechanism. Transpersonal psychology looks into different perspectives of an individual to strive for the root of the person's balance. Relationship, practices/habits, beliefs, nutrition, physical stabilitt, emotional processes, neurological structures... a TP therapyst must atusy a lot and different branches of human practices to help another human. And the spiritual part... is there because everything we do, manifests in our psyche, manifests in our bodies
