What Is Winter Like When Living In Indianapolis Indiana? Good question and it's certainly one we hear often. Especially if that person is not from the midwest. If you're thinking of moving to Indianapolis Indiana, a true midwest winter is something you will experience. When living in Indianapolis the winter is just part of experiencing all four seasons... which is a positive thing about living in the midwest... in my opinion.
The winter in Indianapolis isn't as bad as what many people think. It's not my favorite season but I certainly do enjoy some of it. I like the variety it brings. When living in Indianapolis you'll get hot summers and cold winters. The spring and fall offer relief and rescue from both. I've been living in the Indianapolis area since 1997 and I have to say that I wouldn't want to live anywhere that doesn't experience all of the seasons. Take a look at this video where I describe what the winter is like in Indianapolis Indiana!

What a good video. I made a pros and cons list on cities I am interested in relocating. I did put harsh winters as a con for Indianapolis. I love 4 seasons and I like cold, just not subzero temperatures lol. Indianapolis is still high on my list! Thanks!

Thanks! The winter can be harsh here so you'll have to get used to that if living here. But, it makes you appreciate the other 3 seasons quite a bit.

I would not consider winter as a whole harsh in Indy. Usually there is a week or two that is harsh and the rest of winter is manageable.

From Miami, FL and spent one winter in Indianapolis. There was a snow storm, January 1994, and I was shocked at the amount of snow and slush afterwards on the ground. It was beautiful but depressing.

Hi Jason, Thanks for sharing this video and your channel, which has been a great source for me to get familiarized with Indy. I come to your channel, because I'm having to choose between Indy and Toronto. I'm currently in Abu Dhabi, so the weather is in opposite ends of spectrum. But how'd you compare winter between Indy and Toronto (Canada in general).
@LivingInIndianapolis
@LivingInIndianapolis 3 жыл бұрын
Indy is likely better than a Toronto winter but it isn't perfect here. It's still winter!

Wind-chill makes the cold unavoidable. It sticks to the skin if exposed. It can be 30 degrees with wind chill of 20. It feels colder than -10 degrees with no wind-chill

Indianapolis winters were absolutely brutal in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Since 2000, I can only remember about maybe five brutal winters as far as snow goes. That being said, our winters are still blistering cold, even without the snow. 🥶

It can get pretty hot with the humidity on some days. Last year it seemed like we had alot of 90 degree plus days. The heat can be pretty miserable. But when it's more mild in the lower 80s it's very nice

Indianapolis comes up on NeighborhoodScout as only 5% safer than other cities in the USA. I've been searching your videos and I haven't seen a video where you address the crime, and which neighborhoods are too dangerous to live in. I'm really interested in moving there, but I'm coming from Orange County, CA where I've always felt safe, although now its too expensive to live. Can you please address the crime there, and whether people feel safe living in the city, and where to go and not to go? Because all of the houses I've seen look pretty and cared for, so it's confusing why there are so many shootings. I'm also wondering about ticks. How often do ticks jump on you, and do you have to avoid hiking because of that? Are ticks a problem? I've never had a tick jump on me in the west, so moving to the midwest/east, these are the two main things I have questions about.

I've had a couple of videos regarding safety. There are so many safe places around Indy that there's too many to count. Plus, all of the cities and towns (suburbs) surrounding Indy are incredibly safe. The news tends to focus on the negative in every city. If you wouldn't have told me you felt safe in Orange County I would have thought differently based on the headlines. The news can be deceiving. Also, ticks are around but pretty rare to have one on you. Ticks are all over plenty of the country and not just Indiana.

Spent 50 years living in Indianapolis and now I'm living in Florida. The Indiana winters last from Oct 1st until about June 1st Memorial Day to Labor Day is the warm season and that's proven by the public pool schedule, they open on memorial day and close on labor day.. Even mornings in late May are cold. Extra clothes about 8 months a year. The most difficult part is the lack of consistency, it's not uncommon for it to be 70° and windy on Monday and 40° and rainy Tuesday then by Friday it might be 78° just to go into a weekend of 30-40°. Temps fluctuate as much as 45° day to day This guy is pretty accurate and I'm a disgruntled Hoosier but for real Do not underestimate the inconsistency of the weather there. It's some of the most depressing weather I've been subjected to including places like New Jersey. It's something to do with the jet stream, it use to run through Indiana. Also it's typical to see northern Indy at 40 central at 50 and southern at 60, it's a long state north to south. With that being said, Indiana driver's are much better than Florida's, the people in general are friendlier, and it's absolutely beautiful when the weather is nice. . . Happy trails ✌️❤️
