The Prophet ﷺ made a unique statement which He ﷺ did not make about anyone else “Hussain is from me and I am from Hussain”. We know that Hussain رضي الله عنه is from the Prophet ﷺ as he is the grandson. But what does it mean that He ﷺ is from Hussain رضي الله عنه? The companions asked for an explanation too. The Prophet ﷺ said that Hussain رضي الله عنه is from my flesh and blood. We can also understand from this that what He ﷺ did not complete in His ﷺ life Hussain رضي الله عنه would continue in his.
The sunnah of the rightly guided Caliphs, Rashideen are also considered to be an extension of the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, as they also introduced some sunnah. For example the 2nd call to prayer for Jummah. Also as we would not challenge or question the Prophet ﷺ then similarly we should not challenge or question Hussain رضي الله عنه.
Hussain رضي الله عنه was martyred and the Prophet ﷺ could never be martyred as the Prophet ﷺ was both a Messenger and a Prophet. Allah سبحانه وتعالى has never allowed a Prophet who is also a messenger to be subdued, but to always remain victorious. However, many prophets not mentioned in the Qur'an were martyred.
What is our lesson from this, what is our Karbala? We need to reflect deeply into our lives and find all the things that are taking us away from Allah سبحانه وتعالى and following the sunnah. Is it drugs, bad friends, who is our Yazeed that we must overcome? Is it laziness, the opposite gender, excess food, love of politics, love of wealth, haram wealth?
Hussain رضي الله عنه has no regret of Karbala, as from it He رضي الله عنه gained martyrdom which he would not have achieved if He رضي الله عنه stayed at home. He رضي الله عنه lost the stone of dunya and gained the diamond of Jannah.
Hussain رضي الله عنه said to his group of approximately 100, Yazeed wants to kill me, so if you want to leave tonight then please do and I رضي الله عنه will still intercede on your behalf, but none of them left, as they too said one day we will die, so we are prepared to die with you. This is true democracy.
