In the late 70’s , I worked for Youth Conservation Corp-(YCC) A government program for the young teenagers from the State of Wyoming. We built picnic tables for National & state parks…& many other projects. We had spike camps surrounded by grizzly bears , especially in the West Thumb of Tetons & Yellowstone park. We were very careful kept our camps clean , food contained in stainless steel storage bins. We looked out for each-other! Have a wonderful time in the wilderness & stay alert! ☺️

I know exactly where you went hiking, and it is actually my very favorite place for fishing, and I can tell you for certain, with all the foot traffic that place gets, there would not be any bears hanging out there... so, you were already very safe... not from mosquitos, but from bears and mountain lions, you were safe.... try hiking around Roman nose Lakes... then definitely take your bear spray. And if you make a lot of noise, bears and other wildlife will typically avoid you for the most part.

You’re blessed with such beautiful hiking trails where you live Neveah!! Absolutely breathtaking!! And you’re much more brave than I am lol… no way would I make that hike alone😱🫣!! We have black bears in our area and they’re literally everywhere here!! They’ve even broke into local restaurants and the owner just painted plywood with a pic of a bear where the glass used to be because it’s happens very often!! One of the pics they painted is a bear throwing a rock through a window 🤦🏻‍♀️🫣!! The bear population has grown so much in this area it’s literally like we r living in their area. It’s not uncommon for them to come right up on your porch to your door. They walk through town just like it’s nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣!! I absolutely adore you and your family ❤️. I’ve considered it a privilege to watch you kids grow up through GSL videos. I watch every Saturday while I have brunch and it’s the highlight of my week❤️!! I hold each of you dear to my heart and always in my prayers🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Note about suspension bridges: "The suspension bridge near Heber Springs, AR remained a popular tourist attraction until October 28, 1989. A church group of about forty people decided to swing the bridge from side to side. The bridge collapsed, killing 5 people and injuring dozens."

Yes! THIS! Swinging a suspension bridge (any bridge, actually; it's just easier on suspension bridges) can cause a resonance to build up until it overwhelms the strength of the materials the bridge is made of. . . .

One thing also to remember we don't just have the grizzlies here in northern Idaho we also have cougars, moose, black bears. We have had some scary experiences with grizzlies there. We did not become bear lunch but we did hear a bear breathing as he circled our camper. My husband, son, our little dog and my parents dog sat still and quiet praying in the camper as he circled us and could see his shadow from the moonlight through the curtains. One of the more scary experiences. You are braver than me hiking in the woods there. Looks like you all had fun. 😊

Nevaeh, you are a rock hound at heart! Rocks are so much more prettier when they are wet. You can use mineral oil on them and they will stay glossy. Don’t use cooking oils because the oil will turn rancid. The Idaho geology book will tell you where there are beautiful rocks and geological formations. I spent 20 years of my summers in Idaho. My favorite state and the last of God’s country. Are you sure that was a mountain goat or was it a big horn sheep? Just wondering the video was difficult to tell. Thanks for sharing your video. Neveah, most impressed with your solo venture into bear country! If you had a companion, that would greatly improve your safety. Once when I was hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, I saw a wild cat tail flash by a trail opening. It might have been a cougar. Since I was alone and had no experience dealing with them, I opted to return to the car at that point. I noticed when backpacking in Yellowstone a lot of backpackers carried a little bell (like to call a waiter) to ring every once in a while (30 seconds?) presumably to alert bears to the hiker's presence and less likely to be surprised by humans. Over three days, we saw several bears, I think they were all grizzlies. But no problems involving encountering them: they were passing through our camp late morning maybe on their way "home".

Bear spray is a “must”, but you also must wear the holster in a way that allows you to very quickly grab the spray can, remove the safety, and aim it. Some wear jingle bells on their shoelaces to make noise, but I don’t think they’re loud enough. I carry a coaches whistle around my neck and blow it a few times before rounding a bend, or going in to a dense part of a trail. Do everything you can not to surprise bears. They really don’t want anything to do with you, and if given a warning noise, will run off.

just be careful that no messing around, I think the best bare determent lift your hands high in the air one hand have that airhorn when you blow it scream get out a year, many times people will spray a bare with bear spray and piss them off I think the best bare determent lift your hands high. in the other hand have that airhorn when you blow it scream get out , many times people will spray a bare and try to unload it, all the bears I seen that the bear spray works on his chest spray a little bit of it in front of them and let the wind bring it to them, that way it doesn't seem like an attack. I'm not a bear expert I am just giving you my experience as a man that spent some times in the woods, and definitely do not bring met they can smell that a mile away, just remain calm lift your hands high, and as you're making that racket stand tall with your hands. If you see a polar bear. And you are too close to them God be with you, if you should happen to see one of them at a distance turn your butt around don't run but get out of that area of immediately. They are some of the most vicious bears a life. And they're only looking at you as a food source nothing else so just be very careful,
