This is the new 2024 Mercedes C63 AMG Performance with a 4 cylinder turbo engine and hybrid tech making a combined 670hp and 752 lbs torque. But even though it's the most powerful C63 ever it doesn't feel like one. Here are my first impressions of driving it.

If Mercedes decide to go with a 6-cylinder a few people would have rolled their eyes. Dropping to 4 from 8 is a failure. Then charging over $100k for a 4-cylinder is absurd.

As a previous owner of a 2020 C63S, this current model has a fake engine sound filtering through the front cabin speakers similar to the BMWs. In America, there has been a huge backlash as sale numbers for the current C63 are low. Most AMG enthusiasts don't want a 4 cylinder engine. Let's hope that the new CLE63 is an 8 cylinder. This is exactly the reason the Koenigsegg 1.3 Gemera isn't selling because customers want a big heart for the price of the car. Imagine a Challenger Hellcat powered by a 3-cylinder lol

C63 used to be raw and rowdy, which is what made it so much fun. This is a fast car that drives well, but it is no longer raw nor rowdy, and therefore is nowhere near as fun.

i thought the whole point of C63 was that they put that big v8 in the small c class. They should bring Evolution back and put that 400 hp 4 cyl into Evo.

Completely agree with you. I have a CLA45s and it’s an awesome car with the 4cylinder and it suits it but not in a C63, no way! I just bought an Aston Martin vantage with the AMG v8 and there is no comparison between the sound of the 4 cylinder and the V8. The V8 sound is so special and a C63 without it just makes no sense.

Heard Mercedes is going to ditch this engine and go back to the V8. Sales probably are slow, and resale value may be low due to this being a 4 cylinder. Still, it's an AMG, so it's going to be fast.

For those of us who have or had, as in my case, a W204 C63, these new super technological wonders definitely disappoint us. Surely they are efficient and would have lowered emissions standards, but these new Mercedes have taken away the excitement of a top-class thoroughbred.

Those don’t sound good for the most part,but at least there’s an aftermarket which are deep for modifying that engine which makes it forgivable, this one with the hybrid is gonna be a huge maintenance nightmare

Good review. But yeah, speed isn't the only thing. Thanks but no thanks on the 4pot "AMG". I'll stick with my Renntech tuned 2020 C63S. Also agree about the "ventilated" seats. On high they barely make a kleenex move. Also, cool seeing a video in my neck of the woods!

I had the SL 43 for a few days and it was really quick and although I loved it, I just felt that the engine was tuned within an inch of its life so I ordered the 55 instead

Just as you say, it sounds exactly CLA45. I have a 2014 CLA45 and it makes exactly that sound, pop and bangs, sure fun for a entry model, but with the c63 you should expect the growling/raw´er sound.

the new glc63s cupe is insane whit catless downpipes and stage 1 yes is not a v8 they should have done both platforms but for some reason they decided to do only one engine platform 2.0 , in my opinion it is still as exciting as the v8 I have tested both generations

I’ll stick with my M135i. It has its quirks, but it has 300bhp and 330lbs ft of torque. It’s not crazy power but on British roads it’s enough to get me into and out of trouble.

Was any of that engine noise inside fake sounds coming through the speakers? Also, one of the things that would give me pause on buying it, especially in the first few years, is how complicated the whole hybrid system is in there. I've read articles on this car and it is very complicated on how the batteries and engines and electric motors all work together.

I drove the CLA35 and the fake sound vs. what's happening on the outside is confusing at least. The actual movements and the sound don't even match too well but the biggest downer is the sound becomes annoying very fast.

As Slim Charles from the Wire said, "The thing about the old days, they the old days". Car enthusiasts as a collective are not good with change, but we have to work through the fact that this is the wave of the future. I think people would've been angry even if it was a 6-cylinder hybrid. With stricter emissions regulations, electrification is going to happen. Smaller engines are going to happen. We have to take this car for the engineering marvel that it is. Pulling that much power out of a 4 cylinder is something unheard of until now.

As a current w205 c63 owner, I kinda like this car, the look and as a daily, but the price doesn't make sense. Also there's the new model 3 performance, its lighter, similar straight line performance, half the price.

I understand why people don't like but I also don't understand, because remember when BMW M3 was a V8 now it's 6 cylinder, remember when Audi Rs5 used to be a V8 now it's a V6, and no one hated those cars, so kinda was about time to let the V8 go I THINK, it's just that Mercedes should have done it when Audi and BMW did it.

I'm still laughing so hard about people who can't get over a fast car not being a V8. I guess the Dinosaurs went extincted also...! The car will grow on you... and you'll end up owning one.... I bet. Remember one of the golden rules about being a car guy... Never crap on a specific car when you initially don't like it, because chances are, at some stage in the future you'll probably want it and then will have a hard time convincing yourself you can actually buy one and not look like a complete doofus. Just accept things change and if you want a C63 with a V8... you can always buy a second hand on... that will never change for your life
