In this video I'm sharing some of the challenges of moving abroad in your 30s and why it's still worth doing. When you become an expat in your thirties and move overseas for work, for love or to start a new life, there are some challenges that are more common compared to moving in your 20s but they should not keep you from making the leap and starting the biggest adventure of your life. ✈️

I’m 36, heading to Australia in a week on a 417 WHV. Definitely self conscious about my age but excited to give it a whirl. I’ve had a stable career for 13 years but I really feel like I need an adventure before it’s too late. I can always come back to this career but the opportunity to do this is almost gone so here we go!

Wow this is a great video. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm 34 and since my twenties I've always wanted to go teach in Asia. Now I'm actually in the process of doing so. I know that it's now or never. I'm so excited about it

If I was in my 20-ties, I would defenetely try to move overseas and try myself in another country. But now I have a handful of commitements so the stakes are very high for me. Moreover, I have got 33 new words from your video. Thanks for your natural way of speaking.

Nice job algorithm! I will be 29 this spring. I've been thinking about moving abroad for a while. I don't have a lot of commitments and domestic situation here in Turkey is pretty grim. I gotta do what I can with a law degree. I'll likely have to get a graduate degree out of field.

Glad the algorithm found you 😊 I can only recommend it. If you think you would regret not moving abroad later in life, I'd say give it a shot.

Nice video! Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m almost 32 and I’ve always wanted to move to the US. Now that I really have the opportunity to do so I can’t help myself from thinking that “I’m too old” or “it’s not worth it”. At the same time I think that maybe the future version of me would say “was I really too old at 32?”. I always had this “issue” with my age. I had the same thoughts when I was 25 but if I look backward I can see how silly I was. I guess the same could happen when I’m 40 or 45. That being said, I’m still fighting inside, figuring out what the best decision could be. The question I wonder the most is “are you more afraid to take action now or to have regrets when it’s too late?”

You're the youngest right now that you'll ever be. When you're 62 you'll wish more than anything to be 32 again and that you could take the chance (if you choose not to). If it works out for you then your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner.

I'm 33. More and more I think that my life and my friends' will likely diverge as they create families and such whereas I've recently came out of a toxic relationship and lost all want for a family. Plus, I remembered that I love water sports and would love to do kitesurfing more than 3 months a year which is the length of summer here in Eastern Europe. So I'm thinking I should go for a month first. I have a remote job in software but it doesn't pay as much as the southern European countries would mostly require so this is not a piece of cake by a long shot. Still have to try. Maybe will meet someone who will help find a cheaper apartment for rent, recommend a nice place to live, etc. I've traveled in my 20's on a very tight budget and met so many amazing people, so I do know that magic happens when you're abroad alone. It's just so hard after many years of being in your comfort zone to go out again - this is especially true when you're in your 30's and already have acquired some "stuff" that you are fond of. But days spent in darkness by the computer after work or just drinking with friends are not what I want. It seems time wasted. Thanks for sharing your story, mate.

Interesting video, I appreciate the insight. I'm actually in my mid 40s, based in Melbourne, but have been wanting to move back to the UK for a long time. Back in 2018 I even had a one way ticket booked, but I got scared.. The thing is, the want to do it remains but I think I'm afraid of having to solely rely on myself. I say this because if I could move with a friend, or if I had a girlfriend or even my brother, I'd feel much more confident about it. But it just being me? Frightening. Which I think is down to low levels of confidence and probably a history negative-thinking. But I also know that I need a big change. I left the UK with my parents when I was 17 and been in Australia ever since. But I miss the UK and want to experience it as an adult. I do have dual citizenship, which is undeniably an advantage. But I worry over what could go wrong (running out of money, difficulty finding work with my age, etc.). At the end of the day I'll either do it or I won't do it. I am thinking of doing it mid 2025 and saving up as much as I can. Thanks for the insight, though we're different ages I could relate to what you were saying.

Canada is one of the last countries someone should think of moving to. It's on a steep decline and for at least the next two years, it will be a hopeless fall (maybe the 2025 election will change things--maybe haha)

Wow, i don’t know how the KZfaq algorithm works, but i am 31 and already got my WHV for Australia lol (i did NZ in 2016, amazing experience). But now i am planning to work on my industry (industrial engineer/ project manager / or anything really) Is there a visa that i should consider after my whv expires? (As i cannot extend it for longer due to my age) How did you manage to stay resourceful? (Online courses/ youtube learning) And if you have any great websites for job search in Australia i would highly appreciate it! (Other than LinkedIn haha) Nice video btw, it was much needed as most of my friends are following the normal-life-path hahaha, is great to know that you can still follow adventure when everyone around you might think is craaazy haha Cheers!

That’s awesome! The magical ways of the KZfaq algorithm 😅 Glad it found you! I would definitely check whether you can be sponsored by your employer once you found a job. The eligible job list got reduced a few years ago but might have grown since the pandemic again as Australia’s economy is heavily relying on immigration. After my WHV expired I took a detour via a student visa and then became a permanent resident via the partner visa route. The biggest job search site in Australia apart from Linkedin is seek.com.au That‘s where I found my job. Good luck with your move. I‘m so excited for you 🙌
