Today Nadine checks out a beautiful classic car - a 1968 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV which they drive along some nice British country roads.
What's up Throdle! Join Nadine in the UK as she meets with Throdle App Member Shan to go over the mods he's done to his 1968 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV. Shan mostly kept it stock except for the yellow headlamps, which pay homage to the rally cars of this era. Continuing with racer inspired modifications he installed new wheels with wider tires. He also made some modifications to his engine, which include better carburetors and a straight pipe exhaust.
On the inside, he's kept it all original as the beautiful wood Italian Hellebore steering wheel and interior makes the car even more pretty.
This 1750 GTV is not only special as it is a right hand drive car but also because of how it was manufactured. This specific car was built in the Italy factory, while most of the 1750 GTVs were shipped to South Africa in crates and built there as it was cheaper. This means that the Italian built GTVs are rarer and arguably better quality making them more desirable.
Moving on to the name of this Alfa Romeo, its name suggests it is a GT but adds the V, which stands for Veloce. This word obviously coming originating from Italy stands for velocity. The name is supposed to show the nature of these older sporty GT hatchbacks.
The design of this car is inspired from the Giulia Sprint, which is an older and more desirable Alfa Romeo. It has many similar design cues as they were both designed by Bertone, which was the same team that designed the well known Lamborghini Miura and many more.
This being an 50+ year old Alfa Romeo it has its quirks, which gives it some character. Shan tells us that the fuel gauge and other parts don't function properly as this is an older handbuilt car.
Tomorrow we'll be dropping an Exclusive Bonus App Clip of this Alfa Romeo onto the Throdle App - so download it if you're interested in seeing more of this beautiful car.

'71 Giulia 1300ti, '74 Berlina 2000, Alfetta GTV. That little GTV of yours needs rear suspension springs, they're sagging badly...

If you want to give proper design credit - Giorgetto Giugiaro designed it for Bertone. Bertone had many designers work for them.

I had the GTV 2000, belina 2000, Alfetta 1750 and a spider 2000, but my favourite Alfa was the 1.6 guilia super. The handling of this car in my opinion was the best amongst all the Alfas I have owned.also had them all fitted with auto delta close ratio gears 1,2 and 3.had them all with Auto Delta extractors. One GTV was fitted with half race cams. those were the most enjoyable pears of my life, now i am happy to watch Alfas on youtube.I am 79 now.

Eighty-one year old here who owned two Spiders and a Berlina 2000 in period. The correct designation for this Type 115 coupe is "GT 2000 Veloce." Alfa Romeo itself did not use the designation "GTV" until the later Type 118 transaxle cars.

Throdle Thanks for sharing this car with us. These things are amazing drivers, such tactile feedback from the driver controls too, and so darn handsome to look at! I wish we could have cars like this today. Sad in the USA that people have never truly appreciated these types of cars.

when I was about 23 I used to see a GTV where I parked my car and lusted for one but couldn't afford it. I did get brand new 1969 Fiat 124 coupe though. it was a revolutionary car for the time dohc engine 5 speed transmission,4 wheel disc brakes came with Michelin X tires all for $3100 $95 a month but of course that was a weeks pay at the time.

Hey Shan, I see you are driving around Windsor in the Alfa, which is where I also live. I've just got my Orange (It looks like I've been tangoed) 1600 GT Junior back on the road after 18 months of fixing up, which doesn't look as nice as your GTV, especially as it is a South African import but I'll keep an eye for you when I'm out and about, to compare stories!

The color is called "Ochre" after the mineral. "Junior" was the designation used for 1300 cc engined cars. Your 1600 cc was simply called "Sprint GT." The later ones were "1750 GT Veloce" and/or "GT 2000 Veloce." People frequently refer to them as a "GTV" but that designation was first used by the factory on the later Type 118 transaxle cars never on the Types 105/115 ones.

I thought it was a series 2 too, so can't be 1968. Indicators in the body are a give away, unless of course the front panel has been replaced ... which happens

Yes, radio was usually dealer fitted. The car's console had the speaker holes and covers from the factory. Not sure if the factory fitted the speakers though.

RH 1968 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV classic Bertone definitely is just as good as the classics. Speed is good but a dependable Alfa Romeo at 120 mph is great driving on a country road.

If it was a 1968 it would make it it a 1750 Series 1. This is a Series 2, so it must be a 1970 or 1971.

Correct, it's a series 2, another give away are the bumper overriders and the air filter with the snorkel. I have a 1969 series 1, owned since 1974, all original, all numbers matching, just a fabulous driving machine !!
