IBEW inside wireman here, really enjoyed the lineman’s interaction with the crowd and it look like he enjoyed talking about his job (never met a lineman that didn’t) safety first! God Bless!

My boyfriend is in a lineman academy currently. All of this equipment gives me some peace and mind knowing it is all there for his protection. I hate that lineman have to sometimes work on things that are still energized. I wish that all lineman only had to work on de-energized equipment. 😞 I know they have protocols and special equipment to work like that, but the thought of doing so is just so scary to me.

Maaaan, those hooks are a KILLER on the sides of you calves!! 😖 I hope they've made improvements with those like these safety hats with the face shields. We didn't have those back in '99.🤔

I'm surprised you guys weren't issued climbing gloves. Burn a pole once and you will be picking out splinters for days. I always wore a jacket while climbing, even on the hottest days. Our climbing instructor told us to always wear our armor. Stay safe.

Holly crap that's a lot of equipment and PPE to be carrying around. Good thing nowadays there are bucket trucks. So you only need to climb poles on very rare occasions. Does your company make you climb live poles like this in 2016?

During the hotest days in summer, it would be nice for all the management in suits take a day those who think more gear is safer like wearing a bomb suit to defuse a bomb, not really, safer is work practices, knife safety, awareness, less pressure to perform, go faster because of number... You all need to come to work normally, have your meetings out in parking lot wearing boots, 3 layers of cloyhes, gloves, sleeves, hard hats, bee keepers mask, face shield, walking around , sitting down and see if it really worth hest exhaustive, over heating, not thinking straight because it's hot to breathe... Many over of over a hundred years made it through with leather gloves, cotton t-shirt... Im in control more saftey, more, clothes... do the job first, be idiots later... Work practices, procedures, check and balances, aware of known hazards (which is just about every day) experience, calling in extra help, not because it cost to much... Your welcome

Mitchell Tully I free climb too. Once our safety guy came out and I had to climb a Stub-up CP. I tried to get a quick course on how to use it from another Lineman, but it wasn’t going to work. I went into the backyard and gave the Safety Guy a ultimatum, either close his eyes or leave the yard because he wasn’t going to like what he see. He smiled and understood. He stayed and had a chance to see what it really takes to do Linework. Stay Safe! IBEW Local 17.

Oh, I bet it all is; I need to wear FR clothing when projects take me in to substations. The safety person will even want to inspect the tags to make sure that it is rated for the proper calories/square centimeter rating (the higher the number the more resistant it is to igniting from an arc-flash or a fire). I even have a balaclava over my head in certain places (due to long hair) and often you need to layer protection (FR on top of FR)
