KTNV was able to get a look into what it takes to become a Las Vegas police officer by showing the steps of the written and physical exams. Abel Garcia reports.

Why don't they do the background check FIRST? That makes no sense to do it last & to potentially pull the rug out from underneath a prospect's feet, wasting their time in the process. What's the age limit?

In the video the officer explaining implied 21 as the age limit. But I'm uncertain if that's the case.

The background process is the biggest financial burden for the dept. This process is standard for the majority of all LEO agencies.

The prospect may have a good background but may fail the physical assessment making it pointless. The background is lengthy component and can be time consuming. A background investigator doesn’t have time to evaluate every candidate. I presume the fitness and written process weaves out weak candidates.

Why did 20 people upvote you lol. The answer is because it's expensive (its more than just a regular backgorund check, they have actual investigators talk to everyone in your life) and they don't want to spend all that money just for you to fail the physical or other tests.

Police members are personable and great communicators. Anybody who gets interested in people's life don't deserve to be spoken as if animosity promotes their efforts with the Sheriff's bureau.

I want to become a police officer for Las Vegas. I’m originally from California 24. I smoke weed stopping wouldn’t be the main issue for me but the problem is the illicit drug use. Everybody makes bad decisions when they’re younger and especially them doing routine drug tests now that I’m older and don’t partake in illicit drugs, I don’t understand why it would be a disqualification unless you were using in the current moment!

Las Vegas is stricked with the hiring process! It’s a good thing though ❤…. Clean yourself up and go for it just know you will do amazing extensive polygraph test and one lie and your out permanently for the state
