Cubs shortstop Javy Baez pulled off some of the craziest baserunning you'll ever see, starting a pickle while running to first in order to get a run to score, and then he somehow ended up on 2nd!

How to get an out in that situation: -1st baseman just touches the bag behind him. -1st baseman touches Baez when he can't go back anymore. -The catcher, instead of trying to touch the 3rd runner, can just touch Baez just in front of him -The 2nd baseman or RF, can wait at first base, and receives the ball from the 1st baseman or catcher then touch the bag before Baez comes back from home. In any of those situation, the run wouldn't have count xD Dumbest/craziest/smartest play ever.

Exactly right. The runner can't go all the way back to home plate. All the first baseman had to do was literally just stand there and never throw the ball to the catcher. I've seen some of the dumbest comments on here about this play. Either most of these people know nothing about baseball, or they are repeating something they heard or what someone told them. Problem with social media, people that don't have a clue about what they are talking about, shouldn't say anything at all.

1. Javier Baez was able to stop perfectly short of the catcher and the plate. 2. Willson Contreras was able to score from 2nd base. 3. Baez had time to call the runner safe at home. 4. The first base coach felt compelled to wave Baez to first base. 5. The shortstop Kevin Newman had checked out, expecting the inning to end. So, the CF Bryan Reynolds covered 2nd base. 6. The pitcher Tyler Anderson ends up with the baseball at the end. 7. Every fielder but the SS Newman and the LF Ben Gamel touched the baseball on this play. That's 5 additional fielders than should've been necessary. 8. Baez then scored on Ian Happ's single to center field. 9. The Cubs won the game by 2 runs.

@@vegadog30 Getting lured away, from tagging 1st base, to stupidly chase the runner, then try a throw to the catcher, for the failed out attempt, was a big mental error!
