I was the referee in the middle. This was a tough decision, I awarded an ippon from the view I had but I needed confirmation if that was the correct score and who was it for. As you see from this angle, you can see it twice. I had a split second. The end result by commission was no score and play continued. Looking back on this view several times, White attempts a technique but then Blue tries to counter but failed as white landed on top of him. Neither had control. The final and correct decision was given at the time.

I'd argue that blue had control of the counter, but we can't see from this angle whether whites shoulder landed on blue first or directly on the floor. If as you said the view review showed white landed on top of blue before his shoulders got pushed/slid onto the mat then no score is the correct call. Really hard decision to make on the fly though. Reffing is a difficult job.

Sorry Sandra I believe you did a great job, just using this as a great example of a throw that is tricky to score. From your angle it was a good decision. I refer also to possible bridging comment for your response, and thanks for getting out on the mat and refereeing. We really need more judo referees.

Can see from refs angle where the throw may have initially been given, but from camera angle white loses control, blue tries the tani but doesn’t get scoring contact and doesn’t continue for the waza ari. So no score in my view

Blue I would say because he counters the O soto try. Opponent fell on his back on blue but on his back control comes from blue

No score. Can see why the ref gave ippon prob to white but there was no technique. Blue was trying for the tani but there was no clear shoulder or contact on the back for white

Isnt attacking the supporting leg illigal?

I dont think so. From behind a judoka sweeping out the opponents leg from inside their legs is illegal, must not throw them forwards.h (eg an ouchigari from behind)

White gets score. Blue threw self.

I think White positioned himself for that in foresight of the action. I do that regularly to counter uranage. Counter the counter. IMHO the Ippon was earned

@@JudoLife right leg of blue and shoulder position upon landing takes shape of bridging action. Regardless if bridging was intentional upon landing or not ippon must be scored against blue to deter the action.

I think it was waved altogether by side refs from action replay on video

All I know as a BJJ practitioner is that the white belt ended the scramble in sprawl control while the blue was in turtle position. So white was in a better position at that moment had the fight continued to a sub. To me, the only way a throw is advantageous is if it ends the fight right there, or puts you in a better position to advance position and sub. But hey, I'm a no points, no time limit, sub only kind of guy. But I guess if I had to pick, without knowing anything about tournament judo points rule's, I'd say no one gets points, because while blue landed squarely on his back, which probably hurt really badly on concrete, it wasn't because of whites technique; it was his own poor technique. So neither was in control, and no one gets points. Keep the fight going.
