John's playing really gets me by its naturality. He's so natural it's UNTRUE. He's not a goddamn virtuoso shredder because he doesn't want to, he's not trying to prove anything (although he can fucking shred when it comes to be), but the way he expresses himself is so loose, it's like the nature is trying to speak through him.

Agree. I saw a video of him playing in a band he was in in high school here on KZfaq. His skill back then was mind blowing. Seemed like he was shredding to shred and to play complex shit to impress. He sounded so much different then- I wouldn’t have expected to see him play in ways that he doesn’t now with such skill.

For me RHCP are on the same plain as the Stones, Radiohead... musicians who get in there and just play whatever energy is transmitting through the process. They're true artists who never get in the way of what they're feeling. Anthony and the boys are fortunate in that they're meant to play with one another. Their chemistry is unique. Very little words are spoken. It's all about riding the wave of creativity.

Not really. Kinda cheesy funk rhythms, a lot of Hendrixian noodling and “psychedelic freak outs”, slow “emotional” melodies that Carlos Santana was doing much better in the 70’s and 80’s. Nah...not really unique at all.

If you've ever written a song before you realise it's a pretty accurate statement. The soundwaves around you are influencing your mind and melodys and patterns emerge and remind you of stuff...the sound waves (actual reality) , like radio waves pass through the brain like its a radio receiver. it's obvious is it not? Secondly, I’ve written many songs and yes, there are often times when it feels like you’re being assisted by something unseen (or as if the song has already been written and your job is to uncover it as if you were an archeologist piecing together a dinosaur’s fossils)...but to word it like “the Universe expressing itself through my guitar” is just cringe. Sounds like something Carlos Santana could almost get away with saying 😂 Jimi Hendrix is the only guitarist I know of who could have said that statement and have it not be ridiculous, but what did he say about his playing? “How about I’m the best guitar player sitting in this chair?”
