eems is here that’s very interesting,thank you for commenting:) I’d love to give them a try, I guess Kpop these days can’t be defined in just the “pop” category, it has definitely changed throughout the years and I think most artists tries to involve different elements/emotions and genres within their music and it shows how versatile they can be, which is great to see!! It’s honestly amazing how music transcend languages, and it has reached out to all over the world:)

Koreans are just like any other people in any countries. They are busy with their work, life, and whatever daily agenda they have to deal with. K-pop is just a part of their many sources of entertainment and everyone has different taste in music just like in any other countries. Also the definition of K-pop abroad and that of Korea is different. In Korea, K-pop represents all pop music from Korea. There are so many different musicians and artists in Korea doing pop music. There are a lot of different Kpop music to choose from in Korea. Kpop fans abroad tend to think Kpop is equal to idol (boyband or gildband) music. You guys just dont know how many different singers, singersongwriters, and musicians exist in Korea. It is like there are 1,000 different types of menues to choose from in Korea but K-pop fans abroad think there is only a few menues exist in Korea. BTS is very famous in Korea for being famous abroad but they are only a part of this huge & diverse Kpop music industry. There are so many indie musicians, band musicians, solo artists, and many musicians in Korea, not just idol bands. Korean adults have a lot of options to choose from and normally they dont listen to idol music in general. Idol (boyband or girlband) music is mostly consumed by teenagers and people in their early to mid 20s in Korea. Korean adults tend to listen to other Korean artists depending on their taste in music. Also there are hundreds of idol bands debuting weekly, so they cant really differentiate who is who. What I am saying is that there are many singers, singersongwriters, bands, and musicians both in the mainstream and indie scene in Korea besides boybands or girlbands. So obviously, the public attention cant be paid only to one group.

I'm 41, and Literature teacher. Some of their lyrics are poems. I love the cultural influences from different social groups, I love their way to connect the classical art -music, ballet, painting- with the popular -the traditional Korean farmer's, the latin mariachis or the african American first musical expressions-. I love how a happy song can be expressing deep thoughts about social injustice, inner suffering or the way humanity constructs knowledge, hierarchies, boundaries. As artists, they express the feelings of the lyrics with their voices, their faces, their dances, and you can tell how devoted they are to share their message. So no, it's not the power of marketing.

@@rosofficesolutionsinc1572 _thats the power of marketing and PR_ I've been following BTS since 2017, and i heard of them purely by chance. But since i have been following them since 2017, i can 100% assure u they didnt have any budget for PR or Marketing. We see some pr and marketing now and they've been doing it since.. 2018 when they partnered with columbia records in the US; but before that? they had ZERO PR or marketing. but they already were the biggest group in the world by then. so how did this happen? this maybe hard for you to grasp, but BTS' global popularity came about organically by sheer word of mouth. ARMY got them here. They honestly dont need to do any pr or marketing. tbh idk why they even go on goodmorning america or all those radio interviews; but i get the logic. they want more exposure to pple who maybe not familiar with them; but BTS already were already selling out arenas everywhere they toured - usa, south america, asia, europe, etc. when big record labels in the US got wind of their popularity, they partnered with Bighit and THEN, did we see some pr and marketing - they got on goodmornin america, the tonight show etc -and to their credit they started selling out stadiums. so i guess it did have an impact; but who knows, the 2017 wings tour sold out in minutes. my guess is BTS would've been just as popular w/o their appearance on goodmorning america

But he is grimly unaware of bts' massive economic impact of 5.5 trillion won a year. On par with the big korean empires. That's a huge achievement for their country. Not to mention the amount of popularity they've brought to korean culture and language. That's why we say bts is not kpop bc they are bigger than kpop. Hallyu is nothing next to the bts effect.

@@hafsa1698 well, it's not really impact him so he could care less, in contrast, he understand part of the popular BTS bring to the country which , again, It's not his interest! Hallyu started with Bi Rain and TVXQ, Wonder Girls(they perf-ed in America) during 2010s, BTS just pushed it further, broaden the term, spread it more to the new generation. Koreans are familiar with things happen in 2010-2012 than now. So he is aware of it, but not much interest to investigate what happen. Hope you understand both views.

I know this because I was a former cult member of his group and my family and friends are still members and im not korean. They really are still very active and in global level. I really want my family to get the fuck out of that cult. Thanks to BTS i kinda overcome that hatred and prejudiced against koreans. My entire life! My parents wasted efforts! All the struggles and wrong decision my parents did for that korean cult.. The fact that we non Korean speakers are listening to the music should be impressive in it's own right. The guy that said that knowing BTS is not knowing Korea is right, however, it sparks curiosity. For me, it made me want to learn more about Korean culture. I'm a U.S. citizen but my curiosity in the music, sparked an interest in the language and culture and makes me love and respect Korean culture and it's people. I now enjoy the K dramas, the art, the family, and I am currently working on learning the Korean language with the ultimate goal of one day going to visit myself. So while knowing BTS may not be knowing Korea, it is definitely helping for people to want to know Korea.

@@_hyunie_victoria I read your comments on other peoples posts. The person who wrote that comment meant to say that although some people in Korea may not have a huge amount of knowledge of BTS’ story and achievements, they know their name. By reading your experience, Im happy that many people know about BTS and enjoy them. I know that there is a lot of Korean people who know their name and what they do. But it is not the case for everyone. It depends on how many exposure a person grows up with. For example, the older generations may not know much but they know BTS’ name. However, ARMY is a diverse fandom of all ages. I speak from experience because, in America, when I went to see the first BTS movie, I saw mothers with their toddlers and middle aged men with their family. My mom who is 33 years old is an ARMY, and my Aunt who is around 50 years old is also an ARMY. I am an ARMY too and Im really really proud that so many people know BTS’ name and spread their positivity! 💜

Although BTS is Korean, they've had a huge impact on me as a non-Korean. I am Thai but I live in Sweden. Growing up, I never had any interest in Asian culture at all, not even my own. I didn't have more than 3 Asian friends, and none of us were interested in anything that was related to our parents' home countries. At 18, I stumbled upon BTS and instantly fell in love. That led to me exploring Korean culture, which later led to me wanting to explore my own culture more. I went from identifying as an Asian only because of my looks to now identifying as an Asian because of my looks and my heart. I'm so happy to hear that! I can somewhat relate. :) I'm 24 and I moved from Philippines to Sweden about 2 years ago. I was honestly a bit of a stuck up back then and I had quite much prejudice against kpop, althou I secretly enjoyed a lot of bts songs. They were my guilty pleasure. It was only after I moved away that I realized how much I've been missing in Asian music scene only because I thought the west was "better." In a way I appreciated my Asian roots, like you, through BTS. I found so many mazing things, not just music but films and even variety shows, from Asia that my former self would be too stuck up to even give a try. Kinda ironic that I finally appreciated Asia once I moved away 😅

It's at the beginning of the year that I decided to learn more about them after seeing the Carpool Karaoke. And that's when I fell into the rabbit hole. Their lyrics, their passion, their love for art and music, their personalities, love for each other and their fans, their commitment and so much more are why they are who they are today. They are all younger than me but are teaching me so much. They're really like healers, giving comfort to a lot of ppl around the world including me so thank you BTS.

I actually search the names mentioned by those koreans, and damn they rank bts along with national artist and athletes. Well thank you for this. I think some of koreans are not really focused on kpop groups themselves and i understand that like the way some countries are not really into their artists and musics. Well we do all have different perspectives and taste we just have to respect individualities point of view. Edit: thank you for the likes :)

Kpop is not something the general public take seriously that's why. Which is why, when bts is lumped with kpop, it downgrades them. Though they were born as a kpop group, they've far outgrown that label. It seems from this video, the gp haven't quiet grasped how mindblowingly huge bts is internationally. Even here in the uk (which is pretty closed off to the far east) most young people know bts or have at least heard of them. I doubt anyone in the west know any of the other people they have mentioned. Heck I wouldn't know them myself if I wasnt a bts fan in the first place. Tldr: bts put south korea on the map for western world.

Hafsa that's why most Koreans are just bandwagoners they hop on what's cool and popular (Only when it comes to mainstream music.....ex, Korea loves a Boy With Luv by BTS , but they sleep on a ”ON” by BTS...since Korea only like slow generic played out ballads or pop with a Catchy chorus) That's why BTS was 100x more respected and loved Internationally than their own country that spits on their talents and gave them the shoulder until BST and once they won the Billboard social award. Koreans love to claim artist once it's convenient. Korea really is behind when it comes to following unique and ”underrated” type of artist talent....International fans always end up appreciating talent from idols better than their own country.

This quarantine , around June, I discovered Asia’s culture, specially SK’s. I knew stuff before since I’m a geography and history enthusiast but after watching my first k-drama I got interested in learning about SK’s culture and history. Then, I met BTS thanks to the many Dynamite teasers I saw on TikTok. No idea how they showed up in my feed, that day was a first, serendipity. I’m from Mexico and I knew BTS existed although I’d never listened to them before because I’m always listening to oldies, jazz or classical music. Even my mom knew who BTS were before I told her I was their fan. I love English culture too and literally when I had the chance of going there, I discovered lots of people didn’t actually like Harry Potter or Jane Austen. It’s a worldwide phenomenon.

You guys are good interviewers. And I am struck by how educated and polite the people were. Also I really enjoyed your explanations of the BTS MV's, there are so many references that are not known to Americans, and so much rich meaning in their songs! I really though IDOL was kind of bubble gum before I saw it translated and explained, but it is a very important song.

To explain this phenomenon as a Korean, today Koreans tend to pursue their own interests only. Before 2010, there was a so-called "national song." So there were a lot of songs the whole nation knew at the time, but after 2010, each person's interests or channel have diversified and so if they're not interested in BTS, they don't know BTS very well. And of course, as the BTS gained global fame, interest in Korea has increased and Korea became famous, but Korea does not scratch a living on BTS alone. It's uncomfortable to say "silliness" just they dont know about BTS

@em5522 4 жыл бұрын
Nah, it's understandable. There are a lot of American artists that are technically successful and popular in their fields, but they aren't as well-known by the general public too because everyone has different interest. Like, the names might be known but the product wouldn't be.

Being an International ARMY I can tell the ans of 'BTS contribution to Korea.' 1.Most of the people are now aware of Korea just because of BTS. I mean they have opened the door for people all over the world to explore about Korea. Nowadays people learn about Korean culture, Korean food, Korean history and also Korean language. And I think these things are enough for a Korean person to be proud of. 2. People usually starts with BTS but ends in falling love with Korea. This has even helped to raise the Korean Economy. I think these factors are enough to prove BTS's contribution to Korea. Edit : There are several others point that I can mention but I didn't Coz these were enough. And people coming up in comment section please I want to clear that BTS aren't ONLY ones but they are the Major Part of contribution. Big Bang ..... And all others your are mentioning absolutely did help but certainly there influence was 10/100 and I swear I am not exaggerating by saying that in my Country people don't know KPop or Korean but do know BTS( even if they listen to them or not.) Why to take everything between fans and fandom . Let's just Accept some natural facts sometimes. 🤗 And National / International media is not mad when they say that BTS PAVED THe Way 😄 and even President Of Korea Itself has said that. They are even recipients of 1. Order Of Cultural Merit 2. The Korean Society's Van Fleet : Awarded because of the massive contribution of US- Korea relationship.

Those articles are correct but a lotta times we fail to appreciate things in our own land and think foreign acts are superior. It’s normal tho, almost everyone wants what they don’t have. However, I think most Koreans still know BTS and know the impact they have on the economy, spreading the culture etc. they’re probably too busy in their own lives and don’t know about their achievements

I spend a large portion of my own income on music, merch and traveling to see them in concert. I was just commenting on DKDKTV video. I don't think anyone is lying. I think we outsiders sometimes condense Korea's image to K-pop or BTS. That is why we are so infatuated by the country because we imagine it as a land that where people go gaga over the biggest kpop bands and also enjoy a close proximity with them. But infact it is like any other place where people have jobs, life, work and a regular life. K-pop or any other form of entertainment is also a form of entertainment or relaxation for them.
@koyukiny

Tue. Koreans are just like any other people in any countries. They are busy with their work, life, and whatever daily agenda they have to deal with. K-pop is just a part of their many sources of entertainment and everyone has different taste just like in any other countries. Also the definition of K-pop abroad and that of Korea is different. In Korea, K-pop represent all pop music from Korea. There are so many diverse musicians and artists in Korea doing pop music. There are a lot of different Kpop music to choose from in Korea. Kpop fans abroad tend to think Kpop is equal to idol (boyband or gildband) music. You guys just dont know how many different singers, singersongwriters, and musicians exist in Korea. It is like there are 100 different types of menues to choose from in Korea but K-pop fans abroad think there is only a few menues exist in Korea. BTS is very famous in Korea for being famous but they are only a part of this huge Kpop music industry There are so many indie musicians, band musicians, solo artists, and many musicians in Korea, not just idol band. Korean adults have a lot of options to choose from and normally they dont listen to idol music in general. Idol (boyband or girlband) music is mostly consumed by teenagers and people in their early 20s in Korea..Korean adults tend to listen to other Korean artists depending on their taste in music. Also there are hundreds of idol bands debuting weekly, so they cant really differentiate who is who. What I am saying is that there are many singers, singersongwriters, bands, and musicians both in mainstream and indie scene in Korea besides boyband or girlband in Korea.

the so called kpop or idol music is a small part of the whole music industry here. Of course we listen to Korean music but it's just that we listen to other groups or solo artists because usually 'kpop' is considered to be for teens here at Korea.

In my opinion as an Army and representing the Army BTS is famous worldwide not only for their synchronization in the choreography or how some people deserve their fame with beauty ** BTS makes BTS great with their songs, their lyrics, their talent, effort but above all their personalities, what they want to convey and apart from that their great love towards the fans their sincerity, humility I love all that about them, I love them for that and I will always support them for all that and more. Every time I get close to I feel like if I've known him for a lifetime he's such a cute and sincere love and I know that BTS wouldn't do anything to hurt our hearts. Amo a BTS sanamente, son parte de mi vida y estoy muy feliz con eso y doy gracias a Dios por su existencia.
