For someone living their final 60 minutes of life, the level of anxiety must be off the chart.

I've actually listened to an executioner interview and he said that most of them are actually totally calm and fully accepting of what they've done, and it's rare for them to be on edge or uneasy. Many of them have been on death row for many years and have lived with the guilt of what they've done, so many of them are just ready to get it over with and end their daily misery.

I'd think by that point you wouldn't be anxious because you would have reached a stage of acceptance. And you've had all the time in the world to prepare. But yeah hard to know how you'd react unless you were in that situation. I don't know what I would act like or be feeling on the final day. I would hope that I would be calm but who knows.

This is a really goofy quote from someone who is extremely sheltered in life. I'm pretty sure most torture victims prefer quick death... Even in this extremely tame method of execution, and even if you're innocent, this is a much better way to die than spending decades rotting in prison, isolated from freedom.

Try emigrating to a country where there is no death row, due to abolition of the death penalty. That would take care of your panic attack. Plenty of abolitionist countries to choose from. In the EU we are all unexeptionally abolitionist for at least the last 35 years. One of the paramount terms of joining the Union, is the abolition of the death penalty for all crimes, at anytime. We have had enough of hangings, beheadings, firing squads and even worse in our past. Never again. Death and torture does not deter crime. It only makes matters worse.

Prisoner suicide happened twice that I know of. One was notable, and it happened in 1946 at Nuremberg. Former Luftwaffe CinC and Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering cheated the hangman by swallowing cyanide less than two hours before he would've been the first man on the gallows. The second instance happened in Texas decades later. The prisoner was found dead in his cell having slit his own wrists. He used his own blood to write "I didn't do it" on the wall of his cell before dying of blood loss.

The writing and research could be done by a single person in the matter of a few hours for most videos and _maybe_ a day or for certain videos. Editing is also lengthy but meh, each of these videos could be edited in less than a day's work. Short ones like this are probably edited in a few hours by any competent video-editor. This team crunches for a few weeks then periodically uploads their stuff with decent downtime i'd imagine.

What should not be forgotten: This video shows a ideal run-through. I absolutely reject Death Penalty, but be it as it is. However several issues are not included in the video, starting from innocently executed (from whom several hundreds if memory serves correctly have be officially exonerated), through the issue of botched executions: Due to sourcing issues the first shot is now usually ommitted for a one or two substance solution. There are very heavy indicators that people are not put to sleep but only immobilized and suffer from an extreme feeling of burning inside for several minutes under full consciousness before dyeing. Apart from this, other issues arise like prison staff not being able to find veins due to former drug issues, prodding the person multiple times (as far as I know without anesthetic). Other bothes like injecting into muscle tissue leaving to further agony as the distribution of the drug is slowed which is not adjusted to schedule, waiting for hours on governors call to stay or to continue

The fact that innocent people get the death penalty doesn't mean we have to abolish it. Innocent people get thrown in prison all the time. Should we abolish prison?
@Joerg31415
@Joerg31415 Жыл бұрын
@@angelosmorfis4412 The older I get the more I realize that life isn't black and white but often grey. This is why I wrote that there are several reasons coming together in my mind why death penalty should be omitted. However the counterargument is not valid. A) Yes, innocent people are put into prison and are sentenced to death. If you didn't sentence the latter group to death, they are still in prison innocently with a life sentence instead. B) Death penalty is extraordinary in that is an irrevocable sentence comparable to other corporeal punishments like amputation. It exceeds there as with other sentences (serving time or even corporeal punishments (which I also reject)), if innocence is proven resp. guilt disproven, the wrongly convicted person can be exonerated and can be reintroduced to being free again which the person should have been all the time. After execution, any exoneration is solely a bitter reparation for relatives having lost a loved person which didn't have to die. C) Two wrongs do not make one right. There is no moral imperative to harm one group of people (wrong death sentence) because another group of comparable persons are harmed (prison sentence). Instead, the moral obligation is to better serve both groups. Prison does serve a purpose for factually guilty people but none for innocent people. This should be the goal, which I hope you agree to. There are of course several other issues like racially based execution rates, misrepresentation by mostly public defenders, questionable death sentences to people who were tested to be so low IQ that the death sentence shouldn't even have been applicable, however I think above points provide enough reason to countermand your argument.

Even if some criminals may deserve it, I am glad that we don't have the death penalty in Greece. Indeed there is no death penalty in the EU or anywhere in Europe for that matter. The only sad exeption is Belarus which is not a democracy. Death penalty is torture. No matter the method of an execution, it is remnant of the barbaric past of humanity. And does not deter crime either.

I agree. First off, the death penalty does need refining. I'm not against it. It should only be an option if it is known without a doubt the person did it. An example I give is O.J.. There was indeed a lot of circumstantial evidence against him. Nothing that positively said he did it. That being said, if someone is found guilty & given the death penalty, they have 30 days to file an appeal (they only get 1 appeal). If the new trial with a new judge & jury once again finds them guilty, the execution takes place within 30 days. There's no reason why someone should be on death row 20-30 years. That's ridiculous.
