What will you learn by learning how to fly?
You know, I thought about it for a minute and the answer was astounding:
Learning how to fly, gave me the ability to reinvent myself. And learning to fly will you give you the ability to reinvent yourself.
And then it dawned on me. This is the most important skill you need in life.
That’s exactly what flying will do for you - Learning how to fly will totally give you the ability to reinvent yourself whether you’re going do it for recreation or a career or whether you’re going go all the way to get your commercial rating or whether you’re just buy a Cessna 152 and stay in the pattern.
Learning to fly gives you the ability to reinvent yourself and this is the number one important life skill you need, especially after 50.
The ability to reinvent yourself
You don’t want to enter your 50s without a plan and you don’t want to go into your 50s with nothing to do. Now is the time to start realizing your dreams. No matter how much money you have or don’t have. Now is the time to do it.
Learning to fly will teach you that you can be the guy in the cockpit of an airplane when you look up, learning to fly will show you that dreams can and will come true. Learning to fly will expand your life for you and your family. And you can translate that into every other aspect of your life.
We need to be busy in this phase of our lives, but being busy doing what we want to do.
We need to have a goal that we need to be constantly working towards, and for us that is flying, instrument, private, commercial or whatever.
I’ve said 1 million times flying has changed the way I think it is changed the way I solve problems, flying has brought new and wonderful people into my life and had completely expanded the possibilities that I never thought would be in front of me… and the mere fact that I can go get a job at an airline at 59 years old has made me feel like I’m 25 again. Now what’s that worth?
Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

I know your comments re: reinventing yourself are geared toward us over 50s, but there are a ton of things flying can teach us at ALL ages that are useful in life. Risk management, problem solving, remaining calm in the face of adversity, aerodynamics, weather, basic understanding of piston engines, travel, overcoming adversity (we all struggle at some point during training), a sense of accomplishment, the desire to give back (think Young Eagles or Angel Flight), map reading, sense of community, and self worth, just to name a few. So everyone, get out there and learn to fly!

I appreciate your enthusiasm. I had the passion to fly since I was 16 and at 17 took an "intro" flight for 20 bucks...this is back when you could rent a Piper Cub, wet, for $ 8. an hour. Still have the passion and would now be considered a "rusty pilot" at 69 yoa. Keep up the great work sir and keep the encouragement going....

Thank you so much for this video. I am going through something similair, getting fired from a professional job at 51. I received my PPL a few years ago but will not be pursuing it due to cost. But your point on reinventing is spot on.

Hey kid! Please do not kill a Bonanza. And watch out for Cirrus, their parachute needs a repack every 10 years (thanks FAA) and CCP Cirrus has parts supply problems. Plane could be grounded many months (JR Aviation).$25-30k, I prefer Diamond.

Ted, have went through all of your videos and did not see what went wrong with the G5 a while back? Was not sure how to contact you so I hoped you would read this in the latest video. I love all your videos and I am waiting to see if I get my pension and if so I plane to start my PPL, that is if I pass the medical, which I hope won't be a big problem due to bypass surgery. Keep flying.

Hey, thanks so much for washing and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. I have to take a break for a while, but keep on working toward flying. You can do it! The G5 ended up without a problem. It just needed a software update. Thanks for watching!

I have my private and instrument rating in 2015 after my college required it for one of my aviation degrees before i changed majors. I learned that unless you want to be a commerical pilot dropping $$$ into hours and training, zero corporations will understand the difficulty of earning your private, let alone instrument rating. There was nothing that gave me an advantage as an employee to them. Cold truth sorry I am in my mid 20s and have tried and tried again to make it work

I found your channel and think your videos are great. A question for you, I watched a video that said you bought your 177 after having 200 hrs of flight time. I am assuming you paid a rental fee when getting your PPL. Looking back would it have been more affordable to purchase a plane instead of renting while getting your PPL? I am wanting to get my license and have 2 sons interested also. My thought is that purchasing would be much more afforadable than renting for 3 students to take lessons in, Then all I have to pay for is instruction. Also this is my plan for my "transistion" from a 30 year career in law enforcement in just under 10 years, I'm 45 yrs old now. I figured it would give me time to get my ratings up to CFII even MEI and hours to do some instruction and even commercial after my "transistion". Thoughts?
@Over50andLearningToFly
@Over50andLearningToFly Жыл бұрын
Absolutely that’s my biggest regret - I should’ve bought a plane the moment I so loud, and I would’ve been much better off financially in paying for everything. A rented for my entire flight lessons, and then after I got my pilots license, I joined a partnership in a Cessna cardinal and then I did that for a couple hundred hours and then I bought my own cardinal. Looking back on it I would buy a good one 72 that you and your sons can use and in the long run you’ll have a solid plane and the peace of mind and no rental fees, and it’ll be great for you and your family. Thanks for watching!

Here is a question: How much over 50? I am 43 (hexadecimal, yes I use base 16 for my age now), in good health. No Pharma for me. I have been at a gym, first time in my life, been going consistently for over a year and a half. Do I stand a chance at getting hired for flying in two years from now?
