What lens should I buy first for video? I asked myself the same question when I started this channel. Since then, I've bought and got sent a lot of excellent lenses. Got the sigma 16mm 1.4 for my Sony zv-e10 and I couldn't be happier about it. Works perfect indoor and outdoors for my type of video. I also have the kit lens which is not great but certainly can take some amazing videos with it. Thanks Joris for another great video.

I used to own the Sigma 16mm & 56mm 1.4 and the Canon 32mm 1.4 when I was shooting with my Canon M50. I still miss those lenses. They provide so much image quality for their price!

Awesome video. I've used the kit 15-45mm and the 50mm f/1.8 with Viltrox speed booster on my Canon M50 for the past several years, and it's served just about every shot I could ever want to capture. Only thing that's missing is a telephoto and maybe a faster prime lens, but those are nice-to-haves not must-haves.

JH! Great video! I think we all get too caught up in buying lenses instead of becoming better with what we already have. The first lens I bought when I switch from Canon to Sony was the 85mm F1.8 Sony. I have not used the Tamron 28-75mm but if your viewers are needing another of a lens because that isn't wide enough, I would suggest the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8. It is a bit heavy but between that and the 85mm, I usually keep the Sigma on my A7iii because of the versatility between pictures and video.

The Cannon RF series does not have a 22mm but has 24mm prime lens.Would a 24mm prime lens be fine for an aps-c camera if im trying to capture footage that looks like 35mm full frame ?

Saving for the Sigma 16mm, myself, mainly for the low light capability of the 1.4 aperture. The 50mm 1.8 with a speed booster is on my list, too, for the closer low light shots, and that combo has the added benefit of tricking the M50 into a 1.2 aperture. I love my M50, but that kit lens just doesn't do so well once the lights get dim.

I'm trying to get a 'body only,' but they only bundle with the dog kit lense these days. $100 extra for a lense I don't want.

That kit lens will be saviour on good lighting situations, sometimes you need the versatility of the zoom range specially that fast zoom lenses are not cheap but there’s options like sigma 17 50

For my own setup with M50: tokina 11-16 Yongnuo 35 mm f2 (1.4 with speed booster) Canon 50 mm f1.8 (1.8 with speed booster) Kit lens (just sitting in the camera bag when i need stabilised versatile lens

@@mohdvideos1 yeah, the kit lens isn't terrible. Very good for outdoor shooting in daylight, and definitely worth the money. I have a lot of low light projects coming up, though. I may look into those other lenses, but so far the Sigma 16mm has my full attention.

Amen to this video. Good points. I'm on the Sony a6400, and I'm getting ready to sell off some lenses, make some money back, and be left with my Samyang 12mm f2 (manual), my Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS, and I'm gonna grab that Sigma 18-50 f2.8, and I'm good. The ONLY other possibility is to get the Tamron 17-70 instead of the Sigma, but is that really worth the extra $250? Stabilization, yes, and a little bit more range, but the Sigma is smaller and easier to carry around, and much more gimbal friendly, and I have found myself mostly using the Samyang and the Sony 35mm 90% of the time anyway, and so... I'm good. Thanks for the awesome video.

Great video and good points! It's definitely difficult to find a good and versatile zoom lens with a wide aperture without breaking the bank, but then again it's good to have that one good zoom lens especially when traveling with carry-on only 🙈

Amazing video, tons of great info. Think you can help me out with something? I have two use case scenarios, filing my children / family but also I want the capability of filming unboxing/tech reviews. I have a Sony ZV-E10 and based on the info you presented, I "focused in" on two lenses. The Sigma 16mm 1.4 and the Sigma 18-50. What do you think? Am I on the right track or should I "focus" on something else? Thank You!

LOL I was just looking at lenses, I like that new Tamron 18-50 2.8 and how small it is, it would make a good walk around lens on my Sony a6600. I had the Canon 24mm prime on my Canon SL2 aka the 200D its a small camera for a DSLR and the 24mm pancake lens was just about ideal for video. I used it along with my Canon 7D mk II ah the good 'ol 1080p days. 😆

For my m50: I bought it with the kit lens, then bought the 22mm f2, and then the ef 50mm 1.8 with an adapter, then a 400mm for wildlife photography. I use my 50mm 80% of the time, sometimes the 22mm, and if I need stabilisation I use my kit lens. I just don like the look of the 22mm and kit lens, there is almost no bokeh. Its great for run n gun photography or vlogging tho.

I have those lenses too and they're great! I purchased a 17-55 mm f2.8 and use it with an adapter with my canon m50 since I needed a one-lense-for-everything type of lens since I like to travel light 😅

I have Canon M50 with kit lens and prime 22mm. For most of my KZfaq videos I still use kit lens at 18mm for the right angle as 22mm is too tight for my small bedroom. I was thinking about sigma 16mm 1.4 but it will be too wide. I am saving for new Sony camera with Sigma art 24-70 2.8.

@@JorisHermans currently Sony a7 IV but if they make a6900 with adequate specs I might downsize to APSC and sigma 18-50 f 2.8. I don't really need full frame camera, I prefer smaller bodies like Canon M50. Sony ZVE10 just doesn't make my heart sing.

I get that the aesthetic of a blurred background is popular, but I think it's overrated, makes me feel like I have to put my glasses on. IMO

Agreed! Standard/Normal range for me is 35-58. Anything less than 35mm is wide. Anything longer than 58 is telephoto. 35mm is definitely my "most-used" focal length. 85mm is my choice for a long. 20mm is my choice for a wide. I just use a standard (kit) zoom to size up my shots that I later shoot on primes. I would NOT buy a 24-70mm 2.8 for the simple fact that two (sometimes 3) primes are cheaper, brighter, sharper, bokeh-er.

I personally don't want zoom lenses at all. Sharp primes for me. I'll be getting an adapter for using vintage prime lenses. I'm also getting the Sigma 16mm new.
