James Dean made 3 movies. But people forget that he was a busy stage actor in New York. He starred in many live productions that were filmed. Many of these shows are on KZfaq & other places online.

I'm astonished at how well you've expressed the multiple facets of Dean. I've been studying that dude since the '80's, so you can take that as high praise indeed. Also, you've included a lot of the best clips! Your video is better than 90% of the Dean stuff on KZfaq. You're awesome, bro.

The Reason James Dean Was Great Is Because All 3 Of His Movie Characters Are So Realistic, We Can All Relate To Them, We Have All Try To Buy Our Parents Love Some How. Everyone Wants To Be “Cool” And “Fit-in” in High-school. And Sadly Most Of Us Want All The Money In The World, Because Sadly The More Money People Have The More They Want.

The directors pursued Jimmy. They didn't do that with any other actors. They knew his greatness and his potential. He called all the shots. They would wait on him; he was that good. He studied the scripts for countless hours until he felt it was right. He wanted to BECOME the character he was playing. He put in more work than other actors because he needed to get "into" the character, really understand him. People don't realize how brilliant he really was. He was a sensation all over the world when he was only 25. How many can say that? (Except maybe for Harry Styles).

James Dean's star has faded somewhat since I was young in the late 80's. There was so much James Dean paraphernalia in the 80's. I had two Dean t-shirts. Brando, Marilyn and Newman have stayed hugely popular but I feel like Dean, not as much. Not sure why. And I see I'm right by this video's play count vs. the Paul Newman video.

Newman was several yrs older than Dean and was going nowhere until his pal & rival James Dean died in that horrific car crash 30 Sept. 1955 ... Newman "inherited" Dean's lucrative 7-yr contract by a desperate Warner Bros. and over time developed into a good actor .. He expressed his self-doubt to Baba Walters in 1984 as to whether he would ever had made it on his own had Jimmy lived.

His films, looks, style, mannerisms, very appealing when one is under 25 years of age. When you watch his films as a 35 + person, they look like they belong to a teenage age group. Paul Newman's cat on a hot tin roof performance doesn't suffer from that. As it as a more adult feel.

Am amazed how someone got so legendary of such a paucity of work. His three films were really riffs of the same character. The lost little boy. Resentful of parents & authorities. Too suggest, had he lived longer, he'd have topped such powerful character actors like Olivier, Brando. And even what we've got today like in Daniel Day Lewis, is just nonsense. Paul Newman's performance in Cat on a hot tin roof, is better than any of Dean's slouched, mumbling, ( bad impersonation of Brando), perfomance's. Like Monroe. It was looks, style, charisma, over substance. Elvis also survived of very much the same thing. After his first wave of rock & roll diminished. His 1960s films/ music was a washout. And his '70s vegas era. While entertaining to watch & showcased a lot of times, that he still had it as a tremendous stage entertainer & singer. The middle of the road music didn't really go anywhere & his act was just a repeat of the same thing. Year in, year out.

@Actortainment

Thanks for asking! During filming of Rebel Without A Cause he would poke at the father (Jim Backus) And he would get upset with James Dean but the director noticed this and continued to let James Dean Push and Poke At Jim Backus so it would help the performance of his father. Also In Giant he would spend hours a day working on his lasso tricks so he would be able to look like a real cowboy. if you watch the scene with him asking for money from the bank (I believe it was the bank its been a year or so since I saw the movie) He fiddles with his lasso and doing tricks that make it look like he's been doing it for years. Just small details like that, that show the dedication to the craft of his acting! Hope this helped!

His legend and 'greatness' is primarily attached too his early death at a young age, his legend was set in stone because of that!! Not a patch on paul Newman or Montgomery clift, a tad overrated in my opinion, not saying he didn't have acting talent, just saying because of dying young he was givin' more acting gravitas than I think he deserved!

James Dean was already established long before Elvis was even heard of..He died in 1955.. Elvis copied Dean's hairstyle, grew it out some and dyed it black. Dean made 3 movies from 1953 onwards..Two were released after his Death in 55. Stop sticking Elvis' mug in every snippet about other actors and singers. He has nothing to do with any of them or their success..Dean probably never heard of Elvis Presley..

James Dean was his own man. He didn't care what anyone thought. He didn't cater to anyone. He could be rude, yeah. He was also a rebel. But the powers that be pursued him. He didn't have to do a thing. They came running, chasing after him, and they put up with all his shenanigans - even left his peculiar, eccentric quirkiness in some scenes in the movies. That was because they could 'SEE what so many others don't . . . his incredible potential, his sex appeal, his emotions that were so real that he could cry during a scene with no effort. He would spend hours "getting into the character" he played, concentrating fiercely. That was one of the things that made him such a great actor. At those times they left him alone because they knew he needed it to work his magic. Many envy him. He was THAT good. Underneath his casual, careless demeanor lay incredible talent. He just wasn't conventional, but very, very talented.
