I'm 53 now and I honestly don't recall a time when I wasn't an Anderson fan,. Back in the 1970's I loved (and still love) all things science fiction, and Gerry's output was just another part of that even though, at the time, I didn't really know who Gerry Anderson was. I guess a watershed moment was seeing the first episode of Space 1999 during its first run in my region. I'd be around four or five at the time and was swept away by how incredible it was

Gerry Anderson shows have been a constant in my life. I was born in 1963, and my mum and dad both enjoyed 'Supercar', 'Fireball XL-5', and 'Stingray'. That I should enjoy the shows, is therefore, a no brainer. And I still love them. 👍👍👍

@JJONNYREPP considering the average children's program back then it should be a no brainer. They were fairly terrible in the 1960s.

@@seriousmaran9414 What Made You A Gerry Anderson Fan? 19.4.23. Are these desperately mature adults still up in arms about grown men and women enjoying, in this case, televisual puppetry...? You get the sane aghast reactions when you mention Harryhausen films (go check out Film four schedules this week).... Can't say there's much to it beyond nostalgia or the culture of make do and mend. 60's TV was pretty cool, I feel, regards the weird and wonderful.... The new millennium proffered a pile if hysterical bull crap, though.... Can't say i will be heading bamboo theatre way, though...i suppose you'd head that way for jarryesque fun...regards, he who is not Jan or Harry...nor Dave Z Tott..

For me, it was watching the repeats of THUNDERBIRDS, STINGRAY, and CAPTAIN SCARLET on the BBC!😊😊😊

My literal earliest memory as a child is of sitting down in front of the TV to watch the very first episode of Thunderbirds during the early 90s repeats. The memory of seeing that iconic intro for the first time, and the creepiness of The Hood's temple, seeing those glowing eyes, it's all so vivid to me even 30 odd years later, etched into my brain forever!

After getting hooked on thunderbirds because I watched Pot Of Peril one morning. Then my Mum saw a captain Scarlet Dvd at the library... Now I'm 17 and love pretty much all of his creations.

When i was a kid, TERRAHAWKS was the new big thing, and i believe STINGRAY was being shown in repeats, but the real eye-opener was FIREBALL XL5, as if someone had discovered an additional 39 episodes of FLASH GORDON... but in the THUNDERBIRDS Universe! 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀

Yea, in the early 90s, probably during or shortly after the BBC repeats, Thunderbirds got shown on TV here in Belgium too, and that got me hooked. I believe Stingray was also broadcast here some time after that, though it never quite caught my attention as much as the amazing machines of Thunderbirds. I probably built every single one of those in LEGO at some point.

I was born in 62 and my very first memories of watching Gerry Anderson's programmes was Fireball XL5, then I grew up watching Stingray, Thunderbirds, Capt Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO, Space 1999.. I loved them all, and probably why I'm a Sci-fi Nerd.. I have the complete series of Space 1999, UFO and Thunderbirds Inc the movies on blu-ray.. I also have a few Gerry Anderson documentaries on blu-ray too.. I also have a fair amount of vintage TV and Movie toys of which many are from Gerry Anderson's TV shows (Thunderbirds, Capt Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO,Space 1999). So you can see I still love them all now.. aged 61 & a 1/2.. haha.

I seem to recall in much earlier episodes of the podcast discussions and comments about the TV networks spoiling Gerry Anderson series by broadcasting them in bits, much like the new format.

I think the first I was aware of it was seeing the cover of a vhs copy of the first thunderbirds artwork which had the thunderbirds on the cover. And then shortly after, I caught an episode on Australian free to air tv (around 2001) which was “man from MI5” and I loved it. Not long after, I saw “Martian Invasion”. I was hooked. Wasn’t long before I started collecting toy thunderbirds (I was lucky that they were in toy shops at the time, this was the “sound tech” toy era) and over the next year or two I ended up having all the thunderbirds and Tracy Island. And my local video rental store had thunderbirds tapes that I would borrow regularly. Then one day, dad came home with two compilation videos, one of stingray, and one of captain scarlet. (The ones where for some reason putting a red laser beam over a missile was thought to be a good idea). I was amazed, I had no idea there was MORE of this stuff. Over the years that followed, I slowly collected more Anderson shows, and became aware of some of the others that existed (partially thanks to the F.A.B. Fact book, which really alerted me to how many shows Jerry had worked on). I still haven’t seen everything he made yet. But I adore many of the worlds he created. Thunderbirds, Stingray and Captain Scarlet are all very dear to my heart, and frankly, the number of times the thunderbirds have showed up in my dreams has been ridiculous

This is a great video idea, especially interesting to hear from someone who discovered these shows decades after they were made. Gerry Anderson shows are some of the earliest TV I remember back in the early 1970s. Thunderbirds and UFO were my big favourites but Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 also made a notable impression. As a youngster I suppose my main interest was in the craft - and of course the replica die-cast Dinky toys - and just the general excitement. In later years I can appreciate them much more wholly, the quality of the stories, characterisation, etc and I suppose that's typical of most people as they move from being childhood fans to adult fans..

I heard that Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by Thunderbirds in the creation of Star Fox. I gave Thunderbirds a watch and eventually got interested in watching everything Gerry Anderson created.

The original transmission of the very first Thunderbirds episode in 1965 (yeah - I'm THAT old!) - although I do remember watching some of the Fireball XL5 & Stingray episodes prior to that too! As regards "childrens" entertainment - they were in the premier league - NOTHING even came close. The fact they have stood the test of time so well should tell anyone that.
