I had an online friend from Scotland. We met through discord because he had this goofy ass laugh when he was high that would set me off. We both got kicked from a room for laughing at each other while the others played CSGO. So we added eachother. We talked for days on end, stayed up for nights and we’d talk about our depression and so on. We got super close and we finally talked about meeting up after years of knowing each other. Me and my other friend were going to go down in July to see him and relax at his house after he suffered an awful breakup. We were hoping to cheer him up. Before we got the train tickets and hotel booked he committed suicide. This is my second Christmas without him and I make sure to check in on his family yearly. His mom sent me a box of his stuff so I could feel closer to him. This Christmas I sent him a game like we’d do for eachother every Christmas. The biggest gift I could receive is him accepting it and letting me hear his goofy ass laugh again. I regret nothing. The years of love and laughter he gave me was worth the pain.

I was friend's with a guy online for about 2 years. He had liked me back and forth but i friendzoned him so he never had a chance. We had an idea to move in together as roommates because we never fought and were friends for awhile, and i also needed a place to live. I am now dating him. Guess he got out of the friendzone finally. lol

I wanted to kind of brighten something up. I was in a very similar situation when it came to being suicidal and having a close online friend. We found each other through art and our mutual love for Zelda. I was very suicidal at the time. We planned on meeting up one day. She lived close to my grandparents but it was half way across the U.S. and every time I tried to end it, I’d think of her. I didn’t want to just ghost her like that, (we talked everyday). So I always decided against it. I actually met her this year in late spring! I’m so glad I got to meet her. We met each other at a ramen place and it surprisingly wasn’t awkward. I’m so grateful for her, she saved my life. She’s an amazing person.

I met my internet friend of 4 years for the first time on Dec. 13th after impulsively booking a flight to her state (we had joked for years of one of us booking a flight to each other's place for food honestly) One of the greatest moments and decisions of my life and her family quickly accepted me as if I was one of their own. It was both weird and amazing to finally see the person I've only been able to text, call, and video chat with in person. Even though the week we spent together went by quickly we had such a good time and created so many memories I don't think either of us noticed. We were both just so happy to actually be able to be near each other. And then came the day I had to return home. I don't normally get emotional during goodbyes, but it hit different when her and her dad were waving goodbye to me at the gate. It took every bad bitch bone in my body not to cry on the flight. My playlist didn't help much either as every song that played reminded me of our time together. I thought it'd be weird texting each other after finally being able to just talk and see each other, but nope. It was as if nothing had ever changed and now we're back to texting close to every day. The good news is that I plan on going back in the summer (this time with a solid plan set) and making more awesome memories with her! Update: as of 6/6/21 we've officially reunited! This time we're spending two weeks together and so far I've had nothing but a great time! Definitely able to enjoy each other's company more this time around and get a lot more photos and videos. Even though our summer vacation isn't over yet I can already say it's been the best one I've had in a long while!

I was always a very positive happy girl but when he committed suicide I got extremely depressed which caused a butterfly effect shaping who I am today. A depressed person who’s attempted attempting suicide multiple times. I just want him back please.. we connected so much we truly loved each other. I hate telling people this story and then saying “it’s just minecraft calm down” like the fuck?? That’s not the whole story yeah we met on minecraft but that’s irrelevant later on.

I knew this one guy I had spoken to on Discord for about a year and had regularly played Overwatch with him and his mates. We pretty much spoke everyday and played together all the time and happened to be interested in the same music. Fast forward to when I buy a plane ticket and meet him along with his friend of a few years and his brother and some of his cousins to go to a concert. He ignores me for majority of the time, when we went out to go clubbing he left me at the club and didn’t text/call to tell me they were leaving and whenever I tried to interact with him, he seemed like he didn’t want me there. It was the most confusing moment for me because we had heaps of conversations about various topics, joked around and were very social people, but he completely ghosted me in person? I felt so left out and unsatisfied even though I loved the concert. It was a great experience but I wouldn’t do it again...

I had met a girl that had much things in common with me when I was younger. I remember that she had an animation channel on KZfaq and she was quite popular, I was inspired by everything that she did. Sometimes we still talk to each other in Discord, I'm really proud of her and have immense respect as a fellow artist.

I met this guy on an online chat room through a mutual fandom. For about four months we talked, getting to know each other and such, skyping. On my birthday he must have said happy birthday about 20 times before I responded- the next day. It turned out he was trying to get my attention because he wanted to tell me he liked me. We started dating, it went on for a a little over a year. We got along very well, he was the sweetest person I'd ever met, but he always fell asleep at random. I didn't think much of it. We made plans to meet each other, and I drove 16 hours to go to prom with him. When I met him I cried immediately. Everything went exactly as we'd imagined it would. I hugged him tight, I never wanted to let go. Prom was exactly how every hopeless romantic dreams prom would go because of movies. It was all perfection. Meanwhile my parents were hanging out with his for the night. When I got back home to my parents for the night they were acting strange, but they didn't tell why. The next day we went to the Zoo. I was sort of fighting with myself at this point because he was so far away but I loved him so much and meeting him sort of made it real. I tried to find something I disliked, but quickly anything I found I loved instead. We went to see Avengers Infinity War and then I went home, and that was the last time I saw him. I knew it would be. All night I cried. No one could console me. I hated knowing I probably wouldn't see him again, or I'd have to wait for years before we had the ability again. I found comfort eventually in the fact he might visit us next time, until my parents talked with me about what they'd learned. He had a heart infection. There was a dip in his chest, which could grow to be fatal. He was really sick. His mother was also in poor health, but wanted to try and get him to me. It was all becoming too much, and I didn't do anything for two months. After we'd met in person he started falling asleep and staying asleep way longer. Forgetting our conversations. Forgetting to even talk with me. I felt so selfish trying to get away, but I had to care for myself. I ended up breaking up with him, and it broke both of our hearts. I still haven't gotten over him, and he hasn't gotten over me. On Valentine's his mom called me, and she admitted he'd tried to contact me. He genuinely believed we were still together, and talked about me all the time. I feel like a monster. I miss him every day.

I have quite a long story of my own, a few years back I had this group of friends in a game and I was really good friends with all of them and there was this girl in the group too who was one of my friend's gf. I later realized that she was kind of messed up (up to this day idk if its a health issue or she was just plain stupid) The guy she was dating happened to be one of my best friends and such a sweet person too, but she made it clear as time went by that she was suicidal by sending us some japanese videos of ppl self harming and we thought it was weird as hell, I should also mention she was an attention whore and if someone didn't talk to her for 5 mins she would type: :/ in chat and we would ask her what's wrong but she always said:...Nothing... It always pissed me off cause I knew exactly what she was doing, she treated my friend badly by playing with his heart and making him cry over unnecessary shit, she LOVED drama and I had a crush on her bf but really and truly I never took action out of respect (ofc). Long story short, one day my friend comes all frantic and asks me if I had seen her around and I didn't, we were all so worried and he was crying, he then checked his email and turns out she sent him a goodbye letter and we all thought she committed suicide, my friend was devastated and 2 days later we found out through mutual friends that she had changed the name of ALL her characters so we couldn't track her down. She literally wanted to hurt my friend for nothing when she supposedly was crazy for him... She's plain crazy to me. Ps: Him and I ended up dating for almost a year before breaking up but we r close friends til this day and love him to bits.

Oh boy. My best friend got married recently and we had a couple of online friends that came to his bachelor party and all of us being into guns, we naturally went shooting together for the bachelor party. Now one of our online friends (we’ll call him Jeff) had never shot a gun before. So naturally we went over all the regular gun safety stuff. Finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot, don’t point it at anyone, etc. but something seemed... off... he seemed very normal when we talked to him online but after meeting him we’re pretty sure he has some mild form of autism or something. Was a very scary day as he had multiple negligent discharges, somehow shot the entire day without hearing protection and was unphased by this (although he was nearly deaf by the end of the day) and would regularly have no consideration of his surroundings and what everyone else was doing. Like we would take a break from shooting to load magazines and such and be talking and then he would just start blasting away while none of us had hearing protection on. So yeah... that’s my most “interesting” story of meeting an online friend.

One guy befrended me on facebook (we were both interested in Bionicles), however he turned out to be a complete incel. He asked another person to tell Brittney Spears he had a crush on her and wanted to date her. But he was told that she wasnt into having a relationship now. NOTE: The person who he asked to ask Britney Spears eventually told me he never did this. After this he started absolutly hating Britney Spears saying she destroyed his confidence and even made him want to commit suicide, and even started calling her "Slutney Queers". He even told me that if he had a girlfriend, and someone who he had never met asked him out on social media that he would break up with his girlfriend to avoid hurting the feelings of the person who asked him out online. Eventually, after giving him many chances to change (which he never did), I disowned him, and never talked to him since.

I've met my online friend last year. We've known each other since 2012~2013 and met while playing Grand Chase, we added each other in game, later in facebook and spent some time talking. We would talk from time to time and play GC and other games we played in common together, we both talked about our problems, how I was anxious and depressed, and he also being depressed and suicidal. I’ve never met any of my online friends in person, but some of the people I met back when I was very active on Instagram were insane. I remember having to turn people down who were constantly asking me to be their girlfriend, and when I said I wasn’t looking to date anyone some people got extremely offended and started attacking me. I was fourteen at the time.

I knew my best friend since we were eleven, met him on a gaming site. When I was 19, he flew from Cali to meet me. He rented an Airbnb. We ended up doing things and he said he loved me, always had. A week after he flew back, we decided to date. I’m in the army, and if you aren’t in the military, you won’t know how close you are to your platoon mates, one of my close friends was a male, and we went out to eat and to a party. My best friend saw on Snapchat and immediately told everyone we knew that I was a whore and was cheating on him, in the middle of the party he texted me and said “we’re done”. I was super confused because I had told him I was gonna go hang out with my platoon mate prior to going, he ended up calling me and yelling at me for an hour straight, generally being abusive. I was intoxicated and I’ve had relationships where I’ve been verbally and mentally abused so I was panicking. I kept saying I’m sorry and when I got home my mom had to take my phone away from me to prevent me from panicking anymore. The next morning I told him I wanted to break up and needed space. We haven’t spoken since. 8-9 years of best friends. Crazy.

I had an online friend that I knew for about 9 years, we finally met when she was able to accompany me to my sister's wedding a couple of years ago. I was really nervous to meet her but after the first 5 minutes or so things were going well. We made a Walmart trip to get some snacks for a movie night, the whole time she held my hand and I just went along with it. One point during the movie I asked if I could kiss her because she knows I had a thing for her and she agreed, but it didnt really spark anything like I hope it did, so we just left it at that. After that, we both slept on my twin bed at the time because I thought it wasnt a big deal and she didnt say anything.. I never tried to pull a move nor did I make any physical contact with her. The wedding was the next day and everything was going just well until the reception hit. I really like to drink when it comes to celebrations and I did just that. I never got any bothered vibes from her nor did she tell me anything about the drinking during the reception so I just kept going. At one point she leaves for the rest room and I'm wondering where she is 20 minutes later. I find her outside and her attitude makes a total 180 and she goes on telling me how frustrated and upset she was at me. I stopped instantly to sober up for an hour and I drive her back to my place after a completely silent 20 minute drive. We both talk and I tell her how much she means to me and that I wouldnt have drank so much if I KNEW it upset her. She kept on saying how her ex was an alcoholic and her dad too and that I was probably in the same ballpark as them. I tell her how sorry i am and that i want to make it up to her somehow the next day and she says okay, but she wants me to sleep in a different room. I did just that, my roommate then wakes me up at 4 in the morning and tells me to go to my room, so I did and my friend had packed up her shit and left. All I did was text her later on to say that I'm sorry it came down to this and she tells me never to speak to her again.

But I'm endlessly worried for her because of her condition, and I truly do hope she won't give up for her depression and take her life away, because I would truly go into depression myself, like that person did. I'm very sorry for them and I hope they get better :(
